The hotel dates back to an earlier age! The stained glass windows in the dining room have been retained and are beautiful. The outside appearance is beautiful, as is the reception area.

The decor is a bit tired. The ‘grandeur’ of the exterior is not reflected in the Formica topped tables in the dining room and the utilitarian type chairs. The paintwork is tired and dull. Our room was on the third floor, number 350 I think. It was described as a superior room and was perfectly adequate but poky enough. The approach along narrow, shabby corridors was not an overly pleasant experience. On the whole the staff were friendly, polite and helpful, especially in reception but there was one young man in the dining room who needed a few lessons in social etiquette! ( Unfortunate how one unpleasant experience often leaves a lasting and bad one).

The room had all the facilities you would want with a comfortable bed and the usual tea and coffee provisions. The breakfast was comprehensive with a mix of hot and cold food, cereals, fruit and cold meats all provided for guests with hot food being served from the buffet by a staff member. Free parking is provided at the hotel unlike some others in the area that make a ridiculous charge for overnight parking and whilst not in the centre of town is only a 5 minute walk away from shops and restaurants. The hotel has bags of history with visual reminders of an opulent and splendid past all around you and still generally in good order with regard to the decor. We have stopped here previously and will no doubt stop here again.

Room location at the rear of the hotel not the best with only a view of a blank wall outside the window on this particular occasion but for the price paid can put up with it.

Everyone at the hotel was super friendly. All the staff members had a nice, welcoming aura and were very helpful. They made the check in and check out process efficient. The breakfast option was also excellent. Overall, if you’re looking for a cheap stay in Harrogate, then this is the perfect place.

It’s a very old property, and though some people might prefer more of an older property due to the entire “vintage” side of it, I think some things genuinely need changing: the rooms are quite dull, and the lighting didn’t work properly. There was a punch in the wall, and the floorboards creaked a lot. The temperature of the water in the bathroom was also VERY hot, to the point where it burns your skin, so that needs reviewing. But, despite these things, it was a comfortable place to stay in, and these few things just need to be updated so the hotel is even better. Add a bit more light and colour in there and it will definitely seem like a more welcoming place.

The Cairn hotel was very conveniently located for a short walk into the town centre. It felt peaceful and pleasant. There was plenty of safe outside space for parking motorcycles (and cars). The well maintained gardens had several good picnic benches. The staff were helpful and welcoming throughout. The room was large with clean and comfortable beds. A kettle with tea and coffee sachets was accompanied with a nice touch; the provision of a few biscuits. The decor includes some fantastic older features such as a grand staircase with a beautiful stained glass window. It has an impressive array of architecture mixed with good replacement windows for our room. The location, room and facilities overall felt satisfactory value for money; we would be pleased to stay here again and recommend this to others.

There has been a scheme of modernisation throughout, although the external frontage now could perhaps do with catching up to really make a great first impression and match much of the interior. We didn't include the breakfast option, as this seemed a rather expensive addition.

You can tell the hotel has been here a long time it's cosy clean and the bed was very comfortable shower very hot 🔥 the weather was nice so I was able to enjoy the garden seating before my early check inn. Ample parking with no extra charge!!! Unlike 90%of other hotels in Harrogate and I have stayed in most on numerous occasions. Although this hotel is classed as 3 star it doesn't feel any less quality than other 4 stars in the area

Not mutch water pressure in the shower. Room key is an actual 🔑 not a card witch would just slide in your wallet i feel keys are easier to loose on a night out. £30 charge for 1pm checkin little hight for 2 hrs extra.

It is an old but welcoming, the sheer size makes you wonder if it can compete with the modern day premier inn/travel lodge etc, in fact it does more for you than any Travel hotels. You can get lost in its space, nobody is in your way and being at an age when these were built, you see why it can still perform, the rooms are spacious the plumbing is old but still efficient and everything works. Enter the dining room, massive, plenty of room for everyone and still more besides, staff move quickly and perform with ease, serving you coffee/tea as you sit down, nothing is left to chance, the breakfast is full English, none of this continental fare and plenty of it with seconds if required. All in all we will keep coming back to this chain of hotels as they all have the edge over other hotels.

Car parking was great; location was ideal as walking to Conference Centre; very comfortable large double bed; decent sized bathroom; enjoyable breakfast.

Slightly too warm in the room; could have been more generous with amount of milk and sugar as meant after 2 cups of coffee when we arrived, we needed to ask for more for the evening and morning drink (which we were given) and surprised no choice of teas eg Green tea or decaffeinated. Delay in being able to go into breakfast as did not have the 'piece of paper' to show that we had paid and were entitled to a breakfast. Would have expected that as we had booked and paid the staff would not need other id to prove we were bona Vida guests!

In a word , everything. For a 3☆ hotel , with breakfast and parking included , this hotel was superb value for money . Its an old hotel , with expected ware & tear . Some people in their reviews expect a 5☆ hotel , for 3☆ price , which is ridiculous . We managed to check in a couple of hours early, and all the staff from start to finish, could not have been more friendly & helpful. We had two single rooms that had everything you could wish for , with a hot & powerful shower . I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Other similar ones charge up to £15 a night , just to park . It's just a short walk from the centre , and I look forward to visiting again

The location is easily accessible, close to Harrogate Town centre but with ample free parking within the hotel grounds. The building is Victorian and in it's heyday was certainly a very grand hotel. It has a beautiful entrance which was known as the winter garden when it was built. As is the case with many grand hotels of old, the Cairn retains it's slightly faded grandeur, which all adds to it's character and charm. Our room, on the first floor, looked out over a back lawn and garden and was very peaceful. The bed was comfy, however the pillows could do with replacing as they were slightly lumpy. A slight irritant were the small lights on three of the light switches, they lit up the room far too much once we put the the lights out for bed. I had to buy some black tape to cover them for our second night. The bathroom was a good size with a powerful shower over the bath. Breakfast is served in a large room with beautiful, original stained glass windows. A good selection of cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit and cooked breakfast, very enjoyable. All the staff we encountered were polite, friendly and helpful. We love the Cairn Hotel and we will be back!

Lumpy pillows. Small permanent light on three light switches.

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Hotel is short walk from the town. Lots of parking and although busy never felt crowded. Good selection of drinks in the bar. Plenty of seating areas. Outdoor seating in pleasant grounds too. Quiet at night as set back from the road. Although the hotel is old and looking a little tired it retains character and charm, don't let a little faded decor put you off.

Lack of fan to cool room down. The windows only open a small amount for safety reasons but it meant the room was very hot in the recent extreme heat.
