Kindness of staff, incredible location, accessibility to onsen (tattoos allowed), amazing breakfast. We were with our almost 2 year old son who loved it. The staff was very attentive and friendly and Mitsumi in particular was lovely with us.

Unusual experience in a charme place!

All is well managed, maybe price for night could be little bit high!

I stayed at this wonderful ryokan during my trip to Kyoto, and I’m still deeply impressed! This is a truly authentic Edo-period style ryokan, with a serene and cozy atmosphere that beautifully preserves Japanese tradition. Everything—from the interiors to the hot baths—radiates a deep respect for cultural heritage. I want to especially thank the staff. I accidentally left a valuable piece of jewelry in the bath and had nearly accepted that it was lost. But the staff not only found it—they contacted me and kindly mailed it to my hotel in Tokyo. I was genuinely touched by their honesty, care, and attention. This place became more than just accommodation—it became a special memory of my journey in Japan. I will definitely return and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a truly Japanese experience and heartfelt hospitality. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I think this is that kind of hotel i will never forget. Is incredible stay in a Japan house from 1831, with the same tradition. The room is huge, the staff is super lovely, Akary is our room assistent and she is soooo sweet. The room is beautiful, the hotel is beautiful, and the bed, UFFF i wish have this bed in my house in Brasil. If im a person who lives close from Kyoto, i will always save money and spend a weekends in this hotel. This is a super relaxing hotel. TOTALLY RECOMMEND FOR A RELAXING WEEKEND.

The price is super expensive. Ok this is a super special hotel with a lot a staff, but is expensive, the dinner, the breakfast (im do not take, but if i, will cost a lot of money). The location is ok, but is not in the middle of the crowd. If you want stay in the old town you can found hotel around there. The TRUE is: it was my first time in Japan, in Kyoto. If you want know the city, walk around and if you will not looking for a relaxing hotel who you will spend your time there, im not recommend this one. This hotel is a perfect hotel to STAY there, not to meet a new city. I choose this one because was my husband 40th anniversary and we was looking for a special hotel, and for this, it was perfect.

This traditional inn exceeded all my expectations, even with the detailed description that led me to choose it in the first place. Before I even arrived, their consideration and exceptional hospitality was clear - evidenced by their suggestion that we have two different dinners so we wouldn’t be ‘bored’ by a repeat of the previous night’s dishes. I can’t imagine anyone not liking a second round of any meal provided by this crew of seasoned experts. The room attendant was thorough and considerate. We wanted for nothing. And the family style room was exquisite.

Easily the highlight of my short stay in Kyoto. The staff speak English and their hospitality made the whole experience special! I loved the yukata and ended up buying one at their souvenir shop! Unfortunately, I had to cancel my kaiseki dinner due to health issues, but I enjoyed the Japanese breakfast. And the bath was just perfect for relaxation. Oh, and the Ryokan is super close to the subway, just 3-4 min of walking. I made tons of photos and good memories. I am definitely staying here again next time I am Kyoto.

Nothing. It was simply magical!

Our first ryokan stay was a fun experience for the family. We enjoyed everything from sliding across the slippery tatami mats and polished wooden floors in tabi socks to dining in yukatas and soaking in the public bath. The elaborate meals were delightfully presented by Akari, our very sweet and super-efficient host. She made us feel very much at home.

It was too short a stay and we wished we could have had a tour of the entire ryokan, to peek into spaces like the kitchen from which so many trays and little plates of food magically appear. It would be fascinating to know more about the architecture and stories of this very pretty place.

Our Seikoro experience was a beautiful, intimate way to explore a more traditional Japanese lodging experience during our short stay in Kyoto. The room we had for our family of 4 was very comfortable, with two western-style beds (in a smaller side room) and two futon-style beds that the room attendant made up each evening in the main room. The futon beds are definitely firm, so good to expect if you are accustomed to a softer bed! The breakfast allowed us to choose from Western or Japanese style. Our boys (ages 9 and 11) chose the Western style both mornings while parents got the Japanese style. Both were delicious, with different elements both days. The public baths in the hotel were peaceful and relaxing. We also had the kaiseki dinner, which was absolutely delicious, and an ideal way for us to experience that style of dining with our kids, since it was more relaxed to have in our own room than trying to take them out (fine dining within a private room setting). The location of the hotel was great, and it was about a 25 minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera, which opens at 6am and allowed us to walk to early before returning to Seikoro for the lovely breakfast.

Seikoro Ryokan is not just a place to sleep, it’s an experience. In one night we felt truly cared for, with small gestures that stay in our memory — like being helped into a traditional yukata with such kindness. The house has history in every detail, but what makes it unforgettable is how it makes you feel: welcomed, grounded, and part of Kyoto for a moment. A special thank you to the lady who introduced herself as “Shige” (I’m sorry if I misheard your name) — your warmth and grace made my stay truly unforgettable. If you’re looking for a place to stay, there are many in Kyoto. If you’re looking for a place that will stay with you, there is Seikoro. It will remain in my heart forever.

The level of service there was excellent - staff were amazing. It was great to experience a genuine authentic and old Japanese Ryokan. Nice clean facilities and lots of nice touches.

We were in one of the rooms near the main road - which is busy. I hadn't realised that the Ryokan stretched back from the small side-road (where the entrance is) to the other side of the block (where our room was) hence we were next to the main busy road. And with thin windows - naturally a lot of noise made its way in. I'm also not quite sure it was worth the money we paid - this place cost more than the 5* hotel in the middle of Tokyo - but all in all very happy and glad we went there.
