This was not our first stay at Poshtel, so we knew what to expect. The rooms are quite small, so not a lot of room to move about, but everything is clean and comfortable. The decor in the whole place is quirky, with each room themed. Breakfast was included in the price and was a good selection of breads, cereals, fruit, etc, along with tea, coffee, juice. There is also a large, comfortable shared lounge with a fire.
We were visiting Oamaru for the Steampunk Festival and had various costume items. There was no closet in the room, just a table and some coat hooks. We barely had enough room to hang/store things. I would recommend finding somewhere with more space, if you have a lot of luggage or costume pieces. However, Poshtel is a very comfortable place to stay and we would recommend it to other if you don't need a lot of space.

🌟 A Hidden Gem in Oamaru – Truly Unique and Beautiful! 🌟 I absolutely loved my stay at Poshtel in Oamaru! From the moment I stepped in, I was blown away by the stunning design and carefully curated interior – every corner feels like a piece of art. It’s not just a hotel, it’s an experience. The décor is bold, quirky, and elegant all at once, blending vintage charm with modern comfort in the most tasteful way. The environment is peaceful and welcoming, making it the perfect retreat after a day of exploring. You can really feel the thought and heart that went into creating this space. It’s clean, cozy, and so much more characterful than your average accommodation. Whether you're into art, design, or just want a stay that's a little more special, Poshtel is the place to be. I’ll definitely be coming back – this place stole my heart! Highly recommended

Very nicely appointed, tidy and well designed. Each room has a different theme, was warm and comfortable. Good location in town, good price.
The layout was such that there weren’t any wardrobes in the room and only a minimal space to hang up things in the room. Also, the car parking is taken at your own risk in the adjoining Woolworths carpark, which was a little worrying as it’s relying on the company not checking for overstayers.

This is a beautiful property and each room is unique and special. So much extra care was given to so many details: the selection of tea/coffee in the room; the amenities; the cleanliness; the flexibility of management; the comfort of the bed linens. The breakfast is probably the best I’ve had at a hotel in NZ: wonderful avocados and tomatoes and fruit. So many options for the spreads for your toast. The location is spot on - parking is on the street but it is very easy to access the hotel. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They have a beautiful lobby area where guests can sit and visit or have a drink. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this outstanding hotel.
Everything was wonderful!!!

Quite different. A great deal of design has gone into this hotel matching modern facilities with a sense of history. Every room had a different theme eg cricketing, croquet, fishing etc - in photographs, interesting historical artifacts etc but not over the top - very tasteful and very interesting. Staff very friendly and helpful. Continental breakfast in the 'Art Gallery' was generous and varied options available. Value for money - absolutely. Thank you for the opportunity to experience something different in accommodation.

The fishing room, someone put in alot of effort to obtain the items and to design the room. Wonderful, comfortable room. Quiet and easy to walk to the Victorian area to go to restaurants and enjoy the blue penguins in the area that evening while walking back to the hotel. Great parking, breakfast was another wonderful surprise with a tray of fruit including avocados and tomatoes. Nice to make our own avocado toast and start the day with healthy choices to eat. Highly recommend this location when visiting Oamaru.

Great room- large and comfortable. Quirky decorated added to the appeal. Loved the added touches such as pillow spray. Good location. Simple but lovely breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.
Stairs to our room were a bit of a challenge with heavy suitcases. Lift available to level but a short flight of stairs down then up to access our room. Luckily my friend could carry the suitcases or I would of ended up falling down the stairs! If this is a challenge for you make sure you request a ground level room.

The hotel is very new, everything is clean tidy and easy on the eye. The front door girl was very lovely, which is always the most important part of every hospitality interaction. The giant bed was extra comfortable, the hot shower had great pressure, room was vert warm even though very high ceilings. so overall we had very comfortable stay.
Were woken up before 6am by the loading forklifts in the neighbouring supermarket. Pity our windows were facing that way. I'm sure if you're not a tired parent that has a treat night off for a sleep in it will be a minor.

is in a great location. Everything is within easy walking distance from there. The hotel is very tastefully decorated and a highlight of our trip. The owners are super friendly and the breakfast has a great selection of fresh and sustainable products. The large fruit basket is especially great. The hotel's recommendations - especially the Restaurante Cucina - are also highly recommended.
Unfortunately, our room was right next to a gutter, and as it rained all night, it was splashing quite loudly the whole time.

All the rooms were decorated in a different quirky style, as was the lounge area, in keeping with the Steam Punk theme of Oamaru. Our room had a skii theme and our friends room had a farming theme. The hotel location was right in the centre of the town near all the shops. We could park in the supermarket car park next to the hotel. In the evening we visited the penguin colony and saw the little blue penguins jumping out of the sea and scurrying to their burrows.
Nothing really.
