Our stay at Blue Thistle Cottages was absolutely perfect – a true highlight of accommodations for our New Zealand journey. From the moment we arrived, the peaceful, picturesque setting and warm hospitality made us feel right at home. The cottage itself was immaculate, spacious, and equipped with everything we could need. The kitchenette was thoughtfully stocked with all the essentials, and the bed was incredibly comfortable for a restful night's sleep. The bathroom was modern, with a powerful shower and lovely touches like bathrobes and a towel warmer. The outdoor space was private, with a charming garden, BBQ area, and breathtaking mountain views that made every moment spent there a delight. The hosts, Maggie and Ian, were exceptionally kind and welcoming, offering great local advice, including tips on where to dine and helpful information about nearby attractions. The setting, just outside of town, was quiet and tranquil but still close enough for an easy drive into Te Anau for meals or shopping. The location was perfect for our Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound tours. The beautiful greenery, colorful flowers, and sweet tui birds made it feel like a paradise. We also loved the beautiful sunsets that could be viewed right from the cottage. Overall, Blue Thistle Cottages exceeded our expectations in every way. It’s a fantastic value, providing a cozy, clean, and comfortable retreat in an idyllic setting. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area! Thank you Maggie & Ian!

Loved almost everything about the place. Clean great location. Far enough from the main road not to be a nuisance. Fully equipped kitchen. Bathrobes, the list goes on.

Sadly the one side of the bed away from the window was terribly uncomfortable. Really soft and gave way when my 61 kg weight made it feel like I would slide off it. Such a shame. I don’t feel good about mentioning this but a new bed is needed immediately. Having put up with it for the first night I swapped sides with my partner and she slept in the middle of the bed. Not a great night sleeping.

The cottage was spacious with a great kitchen, living room and separate bedroom with a good bath. Comfortable furniture. Well appointed kitchen and bathroom. Good WiFi and Alexa. loved the fuzzy robes and bed heater. Has a sweet little private deck and lawn with well attended gardens. Good views of the valley. All cottages have their own private outdoor space and parking spot. Convenient short drive to town, all local attractions, shopping, and restaurants.

Spotless! Clean and comfortable. Owner was most helpful with suggestions. Cute decor, with extra touches like a towel warmer in the bath, full kitchen with two burners (we didnt cook, but nice that we could have - because the top restaurants were fully booked in town). Definitely a good idea to make reservations ahead of time, for dinner. It’s 2-3 km outside of Te Anau’s central downtown, but it’s a short, easy drive. SO quiet. Lovely views. Sheep and cows on or adjacent to property. We used this cottage as a base to explore Milford and Doubtful sounds, and we also took the glowworm cruise/cave walk from Te Anau.

Scratched our rental car on some branches while driving out, but that was my fault.

The superior one bedroom cottage was warm, comfortable and private. The view looked over the garden to the mountains and parking was next to the cottage. Bathroom was large and modern, bed was soft and bathrobes were supplied. Sofa and chairs for watching TV were appreciated. Maggie welcomed us and showed us around.

The kitchen did not have a fixed stove/ oven or range hood. The fridge was quite small, just enough room for a few breakfast/lunch items.

A lovely cottage in a quiet, countryside location with a view, own parking area and a small private garden with a picnic table. Our Hostess met us as we pulled up in the driveway, handed us the key and gave us a quick tour of the cottage. It was also super convenient to have our Milford Sound tour operator pick us up from the gate at the end of the driveway (rather than having to drive into town).

A wonderful little cottage that was comfortable, quiet and in a stunning setting overlooking the mountains. The bed and the sofa were exceptionally comfortable, the shower was powerful. The kitchenette had everything to enable you to home cook. The cottage is located just outside town but is close enough to travel for an an evening meal. We were provided with info on the best place to eat by a warm and friendly owner . It was spotlessly clean and was one of the best we’ve stayed in New Zealand - Thankyou

Spent a month traveling NZ and Australia and this was the best place we stayed. Maggie is the perfect hostess. The view is stunning. The cottage is adorable, so clean and put together! The grounds are well kept and beautiful! I wish we could have stayed longer. You feel miles away from TeAnau, but it’s only a 5 min drive and can be walked.

New Zealand's best accommodation options and B&B owners, the environment is quiet and clean, the house is fully equipped, each household can park in the front yard, and the scenery outside the window is like a paradise. The most important thing is that the friendly greetings and care from the hosts make you feel like you are home. Just in time for Christmas, we also received a small gift from the owner, which was heartwarming.

No, everything is so perfect

Location just 3km from Te Anau central. Very easy to find. Cottage was quaint, freshly renovated, comfortable, very clean, bed a little soft for my taste but others might like that. Nice and quiet and you can sit outside to eat in your own little garden. Parking right outside your cottage. Great value for money.
