If I could paint a picture of the most perfect and beautiful country house hotel, this would be it! CG is a little piece of relaxing heaven with an elegant yet homely feel. My husband and I are regular visitors, we hosted our wedding reception here in 2019 and have since loved returning time and time again to kick back and immerse in luxury and the very finest hospitality. The staff here are 5* trained and competent, friendly and go above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We stayed in the Masterman Ready Suite which is a stunning! Spotlessly clean, fresh, well thought out little touches with guests’ comfort and convenience in mind. The roll top bath is big enough for two! We enjoyed sitting in it listening to music, eating sticky toffee pudding delivered by room service! The suite has such a comfortable bed and we benefitted from a sound sleep, to then wake up to the best breakfast we’ve ever enjoyed in any hotel… Ever! The spa is… just wow. One of the major attractions of this hotel. The hydrotherapy pool is lovely and the outdoor hot tub is a nice touch! One of our highlights was the poolside buffet which is super tasty and nutritionally balanced to promote good health. High quality ingredients and taste overload! The dishes are varied day to day. Breakfast delivered to our tree house was a luxurious treat, loads of goodies, meaning we didn't need to find lunch! Staff were really helpful and pleasant to engage with, and the facilities were excellent. We loved the tree house, it was an amazing experience, just right for our own special occasion. Many extra special touches helped us celebrate our Silver wedding anniversary in style, and created a truly memorable few days.

In the spa we seemed to be filmed or photographed every 10 minutes, which was a bit disconcerting. I'd recommend clearer signage about not filming people as half of the people in there seemed to only be their for social media content. The tree house was lovely but was starting to look a little tired, one of the TVs didn't work, for example, and didn't get fixed during our stay.

The setting was superb. The staff helpful.

The hydro spa could have ben cleaner. there was silt in the corners of the pool. The restaurant at breakfast was dreadful. The food was delicious but there was no management within the restaurant. The first morning we had to chase for service twice and the second morning we gave up after 15 minutes. We didn't even have cutlery on the table.

The location and surroundings were fabulous All the staff were really friendly and helpful The gym was good The breakfast was excellent with such a wide variety on offer

There could do with being some plug sockets near the bed that aren't used by kettles and coffee makers. There also isn't much shelf space in the bathroom for washbags and toiletries. Having a better mirror next to a usable plug socket, too, would be handy when drying hair, rather than having to work around the coffee maker and kettle!

Temperature of the pool and hydrotherapy pool are not as good as they were. Steam room had large amount of water on the floor. Hydrotherapy pool had a plaster floating in it. Breakfast nice but some things not a great selection such a cheeses only one type available and not the best. Lots of confusion with orders for tea and coffee and food.

As always a beautiful location. Staff were friendly and the room we booked spacious

The breakfast service let them down . Two poached eggs on sourdough was just that …very badly presented no flourish to decorate and arrived 10 Minutes before the other breakfast. The tea and coffee we asked for 3 times was eventually brought when we both had finished breakfast almost an hour waiting time in all

Lots of space … staff were excellent. Room was superb.. we had a junior suite. Spa was overalll really good.

Renovations in progress… was a bit challenging for me lots of stairs.. currently recovering from a hip replacement. The hotel does need some tlc… small tings like tiles missing in the spa… rust around the poles. Carpets very worn in corridors. Draw knob came off in our room.

Lovely room - very quiet with our own balcony. Free mini bar - lovely breakfast and the spa was amazing. Lots of walking options - didn’t even have a chance to try any real activities the days slipped by so quickly. The staff were all super attentive and lovely - fantastic service by every single person

While there was plant based milk available in the room. Would be great if fresh milk was also provided - but a v minor point

Beautiful grounds and main house. The treehouses are a fantastic addition and even in winter feel completely private. We stayed in the Treehouse Hideaway and the views from both decking areas and the walkway were so peaceful! You have so much space to enjoy, and the gym and spa are still only a 5 minute walk away. Beautiful location with incredible staff who couldn't be more helpful. Can't wait to be back!

The food, the staff, the hotel, all incredible.

We spent £1500 on 2 nights accommodation, plus £700 on food, alcohol, massages. £330 on 2 60 minute massages!!!! They then had a discretionary service charge on all this, so beware when paying the bill
