I had wanted to stay in the coast but prices were Sky high. So I looked inland and this hotel came up. It was cheap & I wasn’t expecting much. But it surpassed my expectations. Great location just off the A38 - half an hour by far from Exeter/ the east Devon coast . The room was a single room but much bigger & way more comfortable than I was expecting with a great bathroom. I was there on the hottest day of the year so far - a fan helped keep the room cool . Breakfast was incredible! Really huge & generous & good quality . In fact the restaurant was very good indeed & good value / price . Staff were so friendly & helpful . Plentiful parking ( so nice to have parking!) . And the hotel is round the corner from the cheapest petrol station in the area . Good access to Dartmoor - and Ashbourne is a delightful little town with quirky shops & restaurants . So recommended !

Everything surpassed my expectations so there was nothing I didn’t like .

We didn't have single beds as requested. Usually have room 307 which is ideal for us as we are in our 80s and like the walk in shower..

Good warm and clean room and plenty of hot water and plenty of teas ansd coffees good breakfast good dinner easy to book

I like the Dartmoor lodge. May room was more than adequate. Reception staff was very pleasant.

No air conditioning. I repeat ,no air conditioning. Small air conditioning unit could have been placed in room at low cost. Again I repeat, low cost. A cheap plastic fan is a poor substitute . An elder bar/restaurant staff member and jobsworth wouldn't allow us to sit inside of restaurant at a table that had been set for breakfast to consume a beer purchased at hotel bar. Really??? They could have allowed their customers at least coffee in the restaurant in the morning.

Comfortable beds, warm shower with good pressure, friendly staff let me check in a few minutes early. I was not required to pay the dog fee, although I’m not sure if this was an error or if they waived it for me. Good location for walking into Ashburton. Fair breakfast, wasn’t overwhelmed by the choices but the full english buffet was good.

The room wasn’t quite dark enough to get a good nights sleep due to a gap under the main door, the curtains being thin and in room 314 particularly an illuminated sign outside the window. The bathroom could be more clean and the throw cushions looked very old and had hair on them. The room could feel more secure with a bolt or chain on the inside. Generally felt a bit dated, could be modernised. Terrible coffee from the breakfast machine, the flat white was bitty and weak.

The staff on arrival at reception were just superb, thank you ladies it was so nice to be greeted with a smile, it makes all the difference. The breakfast was just so lovely and staff in the breakfast room were also excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Rooms were very tired and a little grim if I'm honest and had I realised they were like this I would have upgraded to better rooms.

The whole afternoon on arrival and everything until we left at 10am the following morning was second to none. The friendlieness of all the staff made what we arranged spontaneously was absolutely great, thank you. We were so impressed , and whilst we were waiting for our evening meal we asked the waitress about their Wedding facilities, and she gave us a little toor of the rooms and gave us a little info. So being such a lovely location and good facilities we will plan to meet Emma your wedding organiser to arrange our wedding soon.

I loved the comfortable bed. I asked before my stay if I could have a room with a bath due to my autistic son being frightened of the shower. The staff member I spoke to was very accommodating. I was alone with my son who was quite a handful at breakfast on my checkout day. The lady hosting breakfast was absolutely wonderful and got him to sit and wait for me to finish my breakfast as he was pacing beforehand. It's small things like that that really do make a difference and make me feel valued rather than embarrassed. So, thank you to YOU for that.

Everything was great. One of the soap dispensers in the bathroom was leaking. It's not really a complaint, more an observation and I forgot to mention it at checkout.

The room was very well equipped and had lots of windows that opened up completely, so letting in fresh air was a breeze (no pun intended). The staff were all super nice and helpful. We hiked to the hotel and could reach it on foot quite easily. However, reaching it by car is really easy. The restaurant had good drinks and very good food. There were few vegetarian options, but all of them were very tasty.

Our room felt a little outdated, but there were lots of renovations going on around the place. So this probably will change in the forseeable future. There also was a really nice looking outside bar, but that was closed while we were there.

Gorgeous room with a four poster bed and bath on feet! A very friendly welcome and staff went out of their way to accomodate us and make sure that we were happy. Lovely clean room & plenty of nice breakfast! I was recommended the hotel by friends who stay here regularly and very much appreciate it too!

The hot water was turned up way too high so it came out of the hot taps dangerously hot. We felt that this ought to be addressed. The duvet was perfectly adequate for the warm May weather. I didn't need to ask about a warmer one, but If it was a cold night, or winter, I hope that the hotel puts thicker duvets on the beds or provides blankets. The grass and seating area at the back looked, to us, as though the grass might be sprayed with pesticides, which is obviously a concern to anyone health conscious or caring of wildlife and the environment. It would be good to be reassured by the hotel that pesticide is not being used on the grass or anywhere else.
