I love this little jewelry box of a hotel. The location is absolutely perfect for walking around Richmond. You can get everywhere. The staff is incredibly nice. Even before my stay, Alessandro was helping me by answering questions promptly. The room was super cute. I also love the decor of the lobby area. I did not eat breakfast there so I don’t have any opinions about that.
The one issue I have is with the bathtub. I feel like it needed some grippy material on the bottom because even when taking a bath, it was easy to slide around. Other than that, I’m really glad I booked the hotel for my stay.

Location, bar area and reception was very nicely designed. Period deco feel that felt at home with the period building. Nice finishes and furnishes vintage playlist and nice artwork. The room was a standard double on the small side for two people but for one night was more than adequate. Lovely comfortable bed quality bed linen and pillows. The room well stocked with tea and milk and a coffee machine. The over bath shower (i never know why hotels have baths) was for an over bath version very powerful with lots of hot water.
Butter portions in cheap metal wrappers, you have gone to the effort of making everything high quality and you supply melted butter at breakfast in this fashion. Buy a big block and cut individual segments out placed over ice, The Ivy style. Discrete staff albeit helpful lacked warmth or friendliness with limited personal interaction, maybe if I stay longer next time that could change.

Easy walk into town. Lovely Basic soap and shampoo amenities but that’s it. NEED a box of tissues. WONDERFUL bottle of still water daily Lovely breakfast room - corner street view. Quiet location for a corner property.
Better and more breakfast choices vs cold cereals It’s not a disability friendly hotel. The front entrance has steps. And the shower/tub is downright dangerous. A glass panel next to the toilet on top of the tub to keep the water from Running on to the floor during showering. Good luck. Must USE SECURE TOWEL BAR TO GET YOURSELF SAFELY OUT OF SHOWER. ITS WAY TOO HIGH TO ADEQUATELY GET OUT Clean the drains out‼️ washed my hair and the water was up to my mid CALF‼️ Uber pickup is around the corner and taxi dropoff is on the corner and you must cross the street NO in roommate or front desk availability .

The Selwyn was in a nice location for visiting Richmond. A 10 minute walk in either direction led you right into the busier parts of town with restaurants, shops and things to see. It was on a busy street, but our rooms faced the side street - and there was no problem with noise. The staff were all very friendly and the breakfast was very nice. The decor was very nice throughout the hotel.....unique and interesting!
We had two rooms - one a "family" room, which had 2 beds and was a comfortable amount of space. Our other room was a standard room and was very "cozy" - so tight that there was no place for luggage. It would be advisable for people to consider the larger sized rooms when you book.

Absolutely stunning! The staff were exceptional & it was so so homely . We were attending our son’s wedding & the staff were so lovely, genuinely interested in our event .we arrived early fully expecting not to be able to Check in as we were so early but they sorted us out a room so that we could check in when we arrived! We are so grateful it gave us time to get ready & my husband to practice his speech, which he was really worried about . They booked us a taxi . The next morning, asking us how the wedding went! Absolutely beautiful stay , will definitely stay again & recommend to friends & family. Also breakfast was stunning & service was superb.

Beautifully renovated old building, felt like we were walking into an art deco hotel. Staff were on reception 24/7 and always polite and helpful. The rooms are small but adequate, very luxurious. Room cleaning and fresh still and sparkling bottled water every day. Breakfast onsite, though we preferred to go into town to eat. Short walk to the town centre, where there are plenty of pubs for dinner and cafes for lunch and breakfast. Close to high street shopping and a short walk to the River Thames for a beautiful picturesque stroll or a river boat cruise to Kew Gardens or Hampton Court, or even into Westminster. Just round the corner from the train station for easy travelling to Central London.
No fridge in the room

Breakfast was pretty amazing every day. All staff was very helpful and kind. I had broken a bone in my wrist several days before and every time I asked for help m even if it was cutting my croissant or opening a bottle of water they were happy to assist.
My room was really small and tight and there was little room to do anything except crawl in to bed and walk around the bottom of the bed to the bathroom. The biggest disappointment was that there was no small refrigerator in the room. I had to walk to the front desk every morning to collect the milk for coffee that was being kept in the kitchen refrigerator. I appreciate using technology where appropriate, however, many of the controls in the room were controlled by an iPad that I didn’t know how to work.

There was an excellent choice and prepared fresh with a nice relaxed atmosphere, exactly right for early morning The hotel was superb, i will definitely return in the not so distant future and i have already recommended it to friends
my room required a small repair to the shower bracket and a gap under the shower screen which required a seal to stop the water escaping on to the floor. I reported it on check out and the response was instant I left confident that this would be taken care of immediately.

This place was really nice! First of all it's extremely close to the train station, so that is super convenient. When I was looking up places to stay in for Richmond, I read a lot of concerns about the loudness of airplanes and chose the Selwyn because it had the least (or no) complaints. I did not hear a single airplane! The decor was top notch and everything looked very nice. The shower was great and the bed was comfy. The room was small, but I don't think that can be helped. The staff was really nice. We came to Richmond for some Ted Lasso tourism and it was a 10 minute walk to the Ted Lasso street and store.
The only thing is that the walls were very thin. I could hear my friends talking in the next room! And they said they could hear a man snoring in the room on the other side (but they never said they could hear us).

The location was great: a very short walk from the train, an easy walk to shops/restaurants/the Thames. With very few exceptions, our room overlooking the main road was quiet at night. The room was clean, nicely appointed, and not too small.
There is an elevator/lift at the Selwyn, but because of the age of the building, there were additional stairs for us to get to our room AFTER taking the elevator. There was no one to help with our luggage, and negotiating these additional stairs was not fun. It was extremely disappointing to completely run out of toilet tissue on our last night. We were already dressed for bed, TWICE used the room's iPad to ask for more, but none ever arrived. This is the reason I did not award 5 stars!
