White Lion Inn is a bit off the beaten path but well worth the effort to get there. We stayed in one of the rooms in the converted stables which has a downstairs sitting area and a really nice bathroom with the bedroom on the second floor. The bedroom has a peaked ceiling, exposed beams, and a great window in the side for fresh night air. Everything in the rooms was top notch. We also ate in the restaurant which was hopping on a Friday evening. We didn't have reservations but they were able to squeeze us in. The meals were delicious and service was superb. When we asked about being able to get dessert to go right after we finished eating so that we could eat it in a couple hours, they instead wanted to deliver it to our room later that evening. We convinced them that that wasn't necessary, but they did wrap it up with aluminum foil on nice dinnerware and utensils and told us to just leave it in the room and they would collect it in the morning. I should mention the dessert (rhubarb crumb cake with custard sauce) was a 10!

This is not a criticism of the WLI but if you show up on a Friday night in the middle of the dinner period and also when the pub is really hopping (they are in separate spaces so the dining room is quiet), you will find that parking might be a little tight.

Staff were lovely - Food was superb, the Chicken Kiev is do die for, breakfast amazing ❤️- Location, perfect if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of day to day town life - Really lovely walks - The room was a suite, bathroom & lounge area downstairs, double bedroom upstairs was all beautifully fitted out - Thank you very much for a lovely stay - Elaine & Steve 🙂

The room could of been a little better insulated as you could hear the people in the room next door and you could hear conversations/kids/noise when people were sitting outside the pub as the rooms are located next to this, but at the end of the day you are staying at a pub but by no means did this spoil our stay. Fluffy white bathrobes & slippers would be a nice touch as pretty cold on the feet when you go up and down the stairs as the wooden floors are pretty chilly. Would we stay again - Definitely ❤️

Great location if you want peace and quiet and enjoy a rural walk. Food was great quality and well presented and a reasonable price. Drinks perhaps a little overpriced. The room was very comfortable, although as it was in the attic, it was not so easy to manoeuvre around if you were average or tall in height. A light in the little alcove in the bedroom would make it a perfect place to do hair/ make-up, as it is it's way too dark.

Lovely, typically English country location, yet very close to Portsmouth for the ferry. Real oldy, worldy feel to the pub and restaurant area where we enjoyed a very tasty meal. Large portions - just so you’re aware! Not a complaint - just info! Bedroom was small but not cramped and had everything that we needed including a kettle. Complete TV selection - iplayer, Sky, NOW. Would recommend. Gorgeous hanging baskets!

Really accommodating staff and comfortable rooms. We requested for some family to join us on an exceptional basis for breakfast on the morning after our stay and they were very helpful and accommodating of us. Beds comfy and rooms clean, very nice and quiet location.

Walls a little thin but not too bad. Some slight wear in the room but didn't affect how pleasant the stay was.

We stayed for one night after getting off a late ferry arriving at Portsmouth. We found this to be a lovely pub in a very beautiful part of the country. The staff were very welcoming, we had a lovely meal on arrival, a very nice comfortable and quiet bedroom. The cooked breakfast before departure was also spot on. There was a lovely beer garden and beautiful hanging baskets in abundance We would definitely stay here again

Very friendly and attentive staff, lovely old pub and well kept garden, lovely patio with plenty of parasols (as it was hot). Very nice food in the evening and for breakfast. Beautiful location, lovely green opposite, horse riders clip-clopping by. Also, at the end of the small lane is a very old church with stain glass windows and a roman coffin in the grounds, worth a look inside and out. Our room was well stocked with all you need. Clean and very comfy bed. Good powerful shower. Had a fan in the room which was much appreciated. Also, nicely decorated.

Being very picky here, the shower would benefit from a bit of Viakal, BUT it was clean. The room is quite compact, but it was fine for one or two nights ( I think the heat didn't help).

The overall setting is great. Very picturesque pub in small village next to green and church. Newish rooms. Very comfortable. Great old fashioned bar. Good restaurant with great menu. Great friendly staff. The landlord very kindly posted some clothes back to me which I had left in wardrobe for no charge. Much appreciated

The only small thing was our first table in the restaurant was in quite a cold area - next to window. But they happily moved us to a warmer area. Good service.

Pretty room in beautiful, peaceful location with wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant menu was interesting and varied and the breakfast was good.

My trout was somewhat overdone but the risotto which accommodated it was delicious.

Lovely room and beautiful old pub in a pretty village with different 'rooms' for the bars and restaurant, all really lovely . Great for walking in the South Downs. Good choice of drinks, well priced wines. Breakfast was very good. Staff friendly and efficient.

Food wasn't great. We had fish cakes which were odd as they almost 'bounced' in our mouths and were covered in far too much bechamel sauce,they were also served with over cooked broccoli. We also ordered the vegetarian mushroom dish. It was pretty lacking,contained only basic mushrooms, it could have been elevated by having 2 or 3 types of mushrooms and some fresh herbs, the flavour was reasonable. It was served with watery, overcooked white rice which again, for the price, could have been wild rice or at least whole grain rice. If you're happy with fish and chips or burger and chips it probably would have been fine but the other fish and vegetarian dish are not up to standard.
