Lovely place to stay, ideally situated to explore what the Peak District has to offer. The staff were polite and were very helpful. It has a great selection of alcoholic beverages to sit and enjoy after a long day of trekking through the beautiful walks that are on offer. The food was was very nice and had plenty of choice, which was also very quick to be served.

We stayed in room number 03 which was a lovely room, quite spacious but unfortunately the room has a very small shower with no bath, which was also dirty. The shower floor was stained and has mold embedded into the sealant so could really do with replacing. The hand soap dispenser holder was covered in thick dust when we arrived so didn't look like it had been cleaned properly before we got the keys for our stay. Also the radiator in the bathroom was hanging out of the wall. The bathroom really let the rest of the room down.We rated it an 8 overall but it would have given it a 10 if not for the bathroom issues. We would definitely stay here again if we were to return to the Peak District area.

Everything was very smooth for checking in and all the staff were always very helpful, plenty of choice for seating inside and out. Lovely location next to the river Derwent and extremely close to our destination Chatsworth House. Enjoyed our two night stay immensely.

Just a bit of confusion on booking for food, first night booked for a prescribed time but when we went in the table was still occupied. Next night didn't book but then couldn't sit exactly where we liked as it wasn't in the waiter service area, but sorted out efficiently so minor irritant! Certainly didn't spoil a great couple of days.

Nice bright and clean room. Fan was supplied as it was very hot, as was the option of a top sheet to replace the duvet. Bed comfortable with quality linens and for a pub surprisingly quiet (although it is situated close to a busy road, but then I knew that when I booked). Service when checking in and at the bar a little slow but otherwise fine

Ordered avocado and poached eggs on toast for breakfast. I'm coeliac and they confirmed it could be made gluten free. Pale, barely toasted bread without butter, plain sliced avocado and sunblush tomatoes arrived. Not very inspiring and not matching the mashed avocado with chilli flakes advertised. Slow breakfast service, but I think it was more down to the kitchen rather than the waiter

The stay was lovely, the room (1) was decorated lovely! Had real character and was beautifully designed. Travelling with a baby was made easier with the communal fridge at the bottom of the stairs to put our milk in. The bath was a great size, as well as the bed. It would have been good to know about stairs somewhere on the booking to prepare but didn't really impact us! Overall great stay!

The only qualm is the cleanliness of the bathroom; the floor seemed to have black dots on the vinyl, which was either mould or, at best, looked like it (either way, it's not the nicest for such a great place. There was also a random woodlouse in the bathroom, again didn't really bother me but may be a sign of some wood rot.

A lovely location. I was in room 1 which is situated at the rear of the building. The room was lovely. Lots of quality tea and coffee, very comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. The staff were all veryhelpfuland offered to take my bags to the room. I read other reviews regarding noise in the room as it is situated over the kitchen/bar area. I didn't find it a problem at all, a low hum at worst. If you want total silence then I think it is unfair to complain of noise when you have booked to stay in a pub!! A bonus is that there is plenty of parking. I will definitely stay there again.

The only downside for me was there wasn't enough choice for breakfast, meaning I didn't have any. I don't eat much and there wasn't an option to have a breakfast sandwich or egg on toast, just something light.

Breakfast was extra to the room cost and you could choose from several cooked selections. The options I chose were all good. The location was very good on the A6 making access to both Bakewell and Matlock quick and easy. Also very close to Chatsworth and Haddon Hall.

The stairs were quite steep and having recently had a hip operation I had to rely on my friends for support eith my luggage and the bottom two steps where there was no banister support.

The staff were exceptionally welcoming and helpful throughout, our room was clean and tastefully decorated with everything you could need or want for an overnight stay. We pre-booked a table for dinner on arrival, the food was tasty and well presented. Our server Michelle was very efficient and looked after us well. Breakfast the following morning was again very nice and well presented, plenty of options and reasonably priced. It was refreshing to see more than just one option on menus for vegetarians and vegans. All in all a great stay at a very reasonable price. Lovely atmosphere and the staff can’t do enough for you. We would recommend to anyone thinking of booking and we will definitely visit again in the future!

The location is great, if you like walks or shopping you are in the perfect spot. It is on a main road but it couldn't be heard from our room and we were at the front. The menu had good choice and at your average price. We were a group of 4 and we all enjoyed our meals. Bar staff are quick at serving and are polite and friendly. Our room was really spacious, clean and the bed was super comfy.

The service in the restaurant part was a little slow compared to our last visit.

I like that it’s in a stunning location and with Matlock and Bakewell being 10 minutes away and Castleton and various locations were within 30-40 minutes of the property so can make most of yours days and not spend half the day driving and finding parking. You can come and go as you wish even when the pub is closed. Modern bathroom with good water pressure. Customer service is excellent. Staff and Managers and were welcoming and attentive upon arrival to when we checked out. From breakfast to having a nice dinner to round off our stay it was an enjoyable experience. Even the cleaner was nice and attentive making sure we had everything and asked if we needed everything. We requested to have same room we had last time and they gave it to us which we were grateful for. Both times we have stayed, it has been superb and I would definitely recommend! Perk is that you can take your drink from the bar up to the room with you.

The only thing I could say is that the tv channel options are limited but that didn’t bother us as we were out mostly and only watched tv before going sleep. I generally couldn’t fault the stay.

The bedroom I had was lovely - big, light, nicely decorated, very comfy bed, and decent shower in the airy bathroom. Big TV on the wall, which I didn't use, tea making facilities which I did. All in all, a very nice room to relax in.

Breakfast arrangements - you had to select a table number and then go to the bar to order what breakfast you wanted. Would have been nicer to just sit, read the menu and then have someone take your order. It was quite busy, considering it was a Monday morning, so there was quite a wait before getting my food, and some bits were overcooked, like the bacon, while the tomato was hardly cooked at all. So breakfast just average, I would say.
