Parking on site which is very helpful. It is very close to the shops : an easy walk. The fact that there is a restaurant so we ate there for two nights. The beds are very comfortable - even the single room was of a reasonable size. We didn't use public transport but there is a bus stop right by the hotel. A good choice of breakfast. The friendliness of staff.

My room was above the kitchens I think so it was a bit noisy after hours as staff have to clear away etc I am a vegetarian ,who unfortunately cannot tolerate dairy products very well - the dinner menu was a bit limited for me but I accept I am not the easiest customer to cater for!

The price per night was very reasonable and the self service breakfast was of a good standard. The staff were very friendly and amenable, plus there was the option of eating dinner at the hotel - it was a menu of basic pub staples reasonably priced, with a set menu offer. The Alton Hotel was in the town of Alton so it was very easy to walk into town to eat in restaurants and local bars. There was a good selection of restaurants to choose from as well as a range of bars/ real ale pubs (including a Wetherspoons!) . There was free parking at the hotel which is always a bonus.If you're visiting Jane Austen House it's only a few minutes drive away, but the hotel is a convenient place to stay if visiting Winchester and Salisbury.

The room was a good size and had patio door opening on to an outside area. Our bed was comfortable, very springy! The breakfast was good, with plenty of options to choose from. The bacon was a little hard, probably oven cooked, but being kept hot under the heat lamps at the servery bar probably caused this. All the breakfast food was ready prepared but you could order eggs boiled, poached or fried fresh. Scrambled eggs were already prepared and were good. The dinner menu is quite varied and the portions huge. I would have liked to see a fish dish offered (maybe salmon or sea bass) but fish & chips was the only fish dish on the menu.

The patio door lock mechanism was difficult to secure, probably needs attention. We did report this to reception. The bathroom was a wet room, probably designed for people with disabilities. We found there was no hot water to the basin, so not good for shaving (there was a shaver socket, but my husband only does "wet shave". We boiled the supplied travel kettle and poured the hot water into the basin but it was not deep enough. Refilled the kettle to boil, but when taking the second kettleful the first lot had seeped away - the basin plug needs attention. The shower was good, the water got very hot. However you don't want to use the shower just to wash your hands & face, or to shave!

Comfy, clean, modern room with great bed. Breakfast was pretty standard but nicely presented with good variety of options.

Didn't care for the internal decoration, e.g. very gaudy wallpaper throughout ground floor restaurant and reception area (lime green sofas and seats in twinned with grey plush velvet and over the top ornate cheap looking mirrors). It did not compliment in any way a beautiful Victorian mansion. We didn't appreciate having a gambling slot machine and large screen television on full blast in the restaurant while we ate our breakfast.

Proper old style Hotel, Lovely comfortable room, Excellent Breakfast and Restaurant. Very Friendly Staff 10/10 for the staff. easy to find Easy Parking - would stay here again no problem.

Slight lack of maintenance, shower screen not fitted to the wall very well and a bit short resulting in the bathroom floor being flooded. Outside guttering needed fixing as rained overnight and the water spilling out of the guttering and making a dreadful noise keeping me awake for hours.

There is plenty of car parking space on arrival , key your reg in so don't have to pay anything , receptionist very friendly , room was large , with large bathroom with bath and shower, very comfortable bed , 2 chairs loads of mirrors , breakfast , plenty to choice , evening meal delicious , I stayed 2 nights , had the beef and ale pie absolutely delicious , with chips and vegetables , I was stuffed . 2 Nd night had chicken which It as also delicious .

It was spacious and very convenient. Good parking and attentive helpful staff.

I like the property very much. I don’t like artificial air fresheners- when I walked into my room there was a strong smell of “Fabreze”, or the equivalent of. The room was clean and fresh no need for a perfume! The only real criticism was that to get hot water you needed to turn on the hot tap & wait for ages before it was hot. The water pressure was quite low for the shower.

The staff were helpful and friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was lovely - there's a good choice of foods and the coffee is good. There was a young lad working the breakfast called Henry - he was exceptionally polite, a very good waiter. Also, the food in the restaurant is very good (I recommend the pie). All in all, a lovely hotel with lots of character, nicely presented and friendly staff to welcome you in and make your stay comfortable.

The bathroom was a bit tatty and the carpet needs a good clean/replacing because it's looking tired.

Very attractive hotel and welcoming and friendly staff, I had asked for as few stairs as possible and we were given a ground floor room with nice bathroom/wet room. French windows overlooked garden. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Good breakfast, freshly prepared to order. Free parking and within easy reach of the attractive town of Alton. Very reasonably priced

Everything was fine

The breakfast was very good and varied. Room was warm and comfortable but window difficult to open. Bathroom is very nice with a good shower. The only disadvantage is that there are alot of stairs to climb if you have heavy luggage. It is awkward to ask a cleaner to help especially if it is a woman and they are of course busy.

It is a great shame that there seems to be a shortage of staff as with other hospitality hotels and Bed and Breakfast. We thought there might have been lunch on offer and/or dinner in the evening. The directions as to how to find the hotel could be made clearer.
