It was quirky and quite different.

The room was a queen but was definately smaller. As it was a small room there is no need for all the ‘stuff’. For example, the stool with the magazines, the ironing board etc… these should be available on request but don’t need to be in the room - there isn’t room!

This is one of the best hotels we’ve stayed in. After an initial night of no sleep due to the heat (we arrived at the end of a heatwave), and a bit of panic on our part that the room might not cool down or get much air flow throughout our stay, the staff very promptly moved us to a ground floor room which was a lot cooler and had more natural airflow. From then, our stay was absolutely amazing, and the hotel staff from day 1 were always polite, attentive and responsive, even giving us an extra fan on the first night. The breakfast was always delicious and the general feel of the place is calm, quirky, and a delight to be in. It took us 10mins to walk to the Minster, so perfect really. Everything about the hotel is fantastic, and the staff are brilliant. We’ll definitely be coming back. 5/5 all round.

The architecture and excellent decoration is reminiscent of an older time period but brought in to the modern era. There are limitations obviously, such as lack of air conditioning, limited electrical power points in rooms to accommodate modern devices such as laptops or devices with USB charging systems. There again perhaps not a major issue if you are on a holiday visit. There was no shaver point ( for the men) in the suite we stayed in. Overall a bit like a return to Downton Abbey. The lack of air conditioning was resolved by a fan in the room, much needed as a July stay coincided with 32C heat. Room and bed was very comfortable and the shower room / toilet was superb. Staff are unobtrusive but very helpful and always to hand when needed. The breakfast is top quality and served in a splendid room, although a small one that the staff have to manage the breakfast timings. The location is relatively central within York and within easy walking distance and set in a quiet residential area. Car parking is available but space is very limited and at a cost of £15 per night. The surrounding street areas are mostly resident permit parking but check out the local parking regulations for weekend parking.

The bed duvet cover in our suite was obviously one for all year round use and was quite heavy and not the best choice for a room without air conditioning in 32C heat. Not a major issue over a few days but if the summers continue to deliver more and more heatwaves then a rethink may be required.

Everything was perfect and exceeded all expectations! The room was extremely cozy and had all the facilties we required - the bed was very comfy and the bathroom was really modern which included an amazing shower with great water pressure. The Breakfast was of a very high standard and a delicious way to start both days. The staff were also very welcoming, friendly and helpful from start to finish. We also loved the guest house bar in the evenings (the hot chocolates were a delicious way to warm up after a cold day out in York!). We would definitely return to this guest house for another stay!

Although we were aware of this prior to arrival, we feel the parking cost was too high (£15 per night), and given the price we had already paid for the room, we didn't feel an additional parking cost should have been added. Apart from that though, there was nothing we disliked!

From the minute we arrived, the staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Our room, although small, was spotless. The bed was comfortable and aided an exceptionally good night's sleep. Equally, the breakfast service was good. The staff went over and beyond to ensure a comfortable stay. There was a beautiful garden at the rear of the property ideal for lounging in the summer months. Unfortunately we had bad weather, so we weren't able to experience the garden. I'm looking forward to staying again.

The room was at the top of the building. In the eaves, I found the stairs challenging. We weren't able to open the windows, so the room became stuffy. Fortunately, we were able to use a fan.

The photos promised something special that I was concerned may not live up to reality. However, the Clementine's experience exceeded our expectations. It was a joy, a privilege, to stay in such a sumptuously comfortable hotel with exquisite taste. It was inspirational; the styling and detailing in the room was a source of constant engagement (we never used the generously sized TV!). The bathroom was a stunning marriage of contemporary facilities with Victorian splendour and colour. The fragrance of the liquid soap still echoes in my senses. The garden sitting area was very impressive and I wish wonderful nearby York, with all its attractions, afforded us more time to spend in it. Being walking distance (a lovely walk alongside varied and interesting architecture). The staff I spoke with were all wonderful; friendly, confident and seemingly very proud of the service and facilities they were delivering. Overall, I feel Clementine's delivers the authenticate and full 'York' experience where the city's colourful past, full of mystique and charm, becomes part of the whole visit. I am so grateful there are businesses like Clementine's that are working hard to provide Britain, and particularly its overseas visitors, with something special, based on its culture and history, and less 'international generic'. Clementines has bags of personality.

The street parking, being so near to York's historic centre, was understandably restricted, Nevertheless, more generous than I expected. If you arrive at 4.00pm, you have 1 hour free parking until 5.00pm where iit is unrestricted until 9.00pm (I think, next day, you may have another 1 hour to relocate your car). The hotel has some off-street parking for a fee that may be worthwhile, especially if you are not using your car during the visit. Apart from that, I did not like that I did not stay longer and try the celebrated breakfast! A reason to go back.

I brought my wife for her birthday ,it was a surprise as I told her we were staying at the holiday inn 😎 We stayed in the Garden room suite ,more of a log cabin really ,wow is all I can say it really did exceed expectations . We went for a bottomless brunch in the city ,which is only a 5-10 minute walk. Came back and chilled in the pod which is in the garden and is for sole use of the garden suite it had a heater and we had a few drinks and there was a nice Bluetooth speaker which was nice . The staff were very attentive and couldn’t do enough for you . The decor and furnishings are very boutique as in the photos ,we had a lovely breakfast to finish off our stay . In our opinion it was a better option than some of the more well known hotel chains ,cost a little more but was worth every penny .

Nothing it was perfect

Location was 15 mins walk from city centre. The fan was nice in the room and the bathroom was very spacious. The overall aesthetics were quirky. Walk in wardrobe was a very welcome surprise. TV was big. Warm lights in the room was very appreciated.

The left side of bed was quite hard to navigate onto with being so close to the beams from the roof support. The pressure of the shower wasn’t great on one of them but other seemed just fine. TV would stop responding to remote occasionally so would have to turn it off at the back to get it working again.

This was an amazing find. It was tastefully decorated, super comfortable bed and pillow's, needless to say, spotlessly clean. The room was plush and well equipped with little touches like box tissues, drinks coasters, luxury toiletries. It was a chilly night but the room was cosy and warm. The staff were friendly and really go out of their way to look after their guests. Jack was on duty during my stay and he was so helpful recommending a take out and providing me with plate and cutlery. Very professional. As a solo traveller I felt warmly welcomed. Little Teddy the resident cat is well mannered and is a delightful addition to the team.

Nothing to fault this place.

As a lesbian couple we didn't know what to expect, but when we got there it was above and beyond our expectations. The staff were so accommodating and helpful with everything, making us feel at home. The room we stayed in was absolutely stunning, with amazing pieces of art throughout the whole guest house it just had such a cosy and inviting atmosphere. I booked our holiday as a 25th birthday surprise for my fiancée and it is now a birthday she will never forget. ❤️ The best part of the Clementine's Guest House has got to be their gorgeous Resident house cat Teddy 🧸❤️ as a photographer I couldn't resist getting some stunning shots of him (not like he complained, he's such a poser 😂). At our checking out, we got Teddy a little cat toy for doing such a good job! I also gave the lovely receptionist some printed versions of the edited photos I'd done of Teddy. She seemed to absolutely love them and went to show the rest of the staff. That just put such a big smile on my face to see how much they loved the photos. It really meant the whole world! My photography name is @phot_ographybyjess

There wasn't a single thing that we didn't like, everything was just spectacular and we couldn't fault it! It is absolutely worth it, and we are definitely going to be returning in the future!
