Ross, the owner, was the perfect gentleman and the ideal host. He made us feel very welcome instantly and he epitomised that famous Kiwi hospitality and friendliness. He gave us lots of advice on the local area including some more unknown spots and also very good restaurant recommendations. He recommended a restaurant that does one of the best fish and chips I have ever had (and that’s coming from an Englishman). He also has spades that his customers can borrow for a day out to hot water beach where you can dig a hole in the sand and sit in a hot spring, it’s a very cool experience and they charge $10 per spade on the beach but Ross has 3 that you can borrow for free! There is also a BBQ that is not mentioned in the listing that we were able to use, it’s a very nice one too. The motel itself is wonderfully located, being very close to the pier, the town and other tourist hotspots. We wanted to play pool and Ross even managed to sign us into the local social club as the local sports bar had closed their pool table. Ross went above and beyond to ensure we had the best time possible and this really meant a lot to us. On top of all of this Ross also does a lot of great youth work in the local community so if nothing else if you wanted the opportunity to support someone doing good work, you should stay here. I don’t have a single bar thing to say about the motel, we had a great time and being so close to everything gave us more time to see what the town and surrounding areas has to offer.

This is in a really good location, probably a two minute walk from the room. The room was spacious and clean. A great central location for walking around or for driving. We had a full kitchen with a refrigerator so it helped out quite a bit was not eating out every night.

There was no AC but there was a ceiling fan which helped which worked well.It wasn’t too hot as we were there in the fall but I don’t know if the ceiling fan would be enough during the summer. Overall, we had a pretty relaxing day and would stay there again

It was very clean and cosy and really close to the centre of town. The backyard backs onto the marina and is right next to a bar and cafe which was super convenient. The owner Ross was so lovely and friendly and upon arrival told us about the local attractions and things to see in town along with a packet in our room that outlined all the best local restaurants with menus!! It was clear the owners are very passionate about ensuring their guests have a good time and for that we are very grateful.

Well located close to most facilities. Plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Large unit with separate bedroom, large kitchen and lounge area. The kitchen is well equipped and has a stove and microwave for cooking. Dining table and chairs. Lounge to watch TV. The room gets the afternoon sun and in the winter it warms the unit beautifully. The unit is quiet and no noise from other units. Parking right at the door. I would highly recommend this motel.

Small traditional motel in the hub of Whitianga, run by lovely owners, who go out of their way to welcome you. Eveyone was friendly here. All town attractions less than 5 mins walk. Comfortable accommodation with enough privacy for a couple plus another adult and a well stocked kitchen. Not jazzy or bijou but literally just what we want from a motel at a good price. 2 mins walk to beach...many swims happened! 2mins walk to good coffee! We had a great stay here.

The unit was spotless and pleasantly laid out - both functional (which makes a really nice change) and beautifully presented. It is located close to town and the waterfront, a stone's throw from the ferry to Cook's Beach. Lovely and quiet. Helpful & welcoming management.

The small heater could not cope with the colder weather. A larger heater and/or electric blankets would make the place cosy and warm. Helpful management rectified the problem with a loan heater and additional blankets for the second night which was lovely. I would love to return, once a larger heater is installed.

I rarely give reviews, but in this case I feel compelled because of just how nice people are here. The hosts of this motel are spectacularly nice. Ross has been very welcoming since our arrival and kind throughout our stay. He let us borrow his bikes for a whole day, and we had an amazing day cycling around Whitianga and Cooks beach. The place is very well located, right in the centre of Whitianga and next to the ferry to cross towards Cooks beach. Whitianga's beach is a 3 minutes walk. Restaurants, pubs, and shops are also within 2 minutes walk. It has everything you need. Would definitely go back if I ever happen to be on that side of the world again!

We had a wonderful stay at the Whitianga Motel, thanks to the warm hospitality of Ross and Sue. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, making for a very relaxing experience. The location was ideal, with the beach and local attractions just a short walk away. Ross and Sue truly go above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome and cared for. I highly recommend this motel to anyone visiting the Coromandel and will definitely be back!

Super friendly and helpful host and well located motel. Loved the original features of our family room, though with two teenagers it was a little cramped. We enjoyed great summer weather so thankfully didn't need to spend much time in the room! Very convenient location within easy walking distance to cafes, restaurants, beach and ferry. Little extras such as marked parking spaces, extra room fans and shared boogie boards, beach umbrellas and spades for guests to use were much appreciated. Ross takes the time to greet guests and share local tips to make the most of your visit. Recommend spending at least 2-3 or more days in this gorgeous part of the Coromandel. Highly recommend Cathedral Cove sea kayaking.

Excellent location very close to Wharf and waterfront restaurant precinct. Very convenient parking right outside the door. Quiet location and very friendly owners giving very helpful and informative advice regarding Cruises and road conditions re temporary closure of land access to Cathedral Cove. Very comfortable beds and spacious kitchen dining area. Would definitely stay again.

No ventilation or exhaust fans in kitchen or bathroom. Seems quite common not to have such in accommodation in NZ. Results in annoying trigger of smoke alarm when cooking.
