We had a fantastic stay at the Black Bull Inn! From the moment we arrived, we were given a friendly welcome, and that same hospitality continued throughout our stay. The staff were always attentive and helpful, making us feel completely at home. Our room was spotless and cleaned whenever we needed it, which we really appreciated. The highlight of our visit had to be the food – the evening meals were exceptional, beautifully cooked, and full of flavour. Breakfast was just as impressive, with a variety of choices to suit every taste. Overall, our experience was wonderful, and we would highly recommend the Black Bull Inn to anyone looking for excellent service, comfortable rooms, and outstanding food.
Two minor niggles for us, which may not affect/bother everyone: 1. Our room 'shook' every time the main front door of the inn was slammed shut - mainly by customers. 2. The music from downstairs was constantly in the background

The location was good. A quiet village, and plenty of parking. The hotel has been updated and we found the furniture and rooms to be of good quality. Our room was clean. It was above the bar/restaurant, and although we heard a small amount of music or chat, it did not disturb us. Any sounds were gone by about 9.30 pm so not a problem with sleeping. The shower was good and plenty of hot water. The restaurant food was good, and the breakfast was fine.
We found the staff were not especially welcoming or smiley! It was not easy to chat or relate to them! This was the norm we found! At dinner we asked for a bottle of Sparkling water one evening and a bottle of unchilled water was put on the table with no glasses. When we queried the warm water, we were advised there was none that was cold! No apology. We asked for ice, which was brought to the table.

Nice and clean properly. Plenty of parking spaces. Friendly and busy pub/hotel/restaurant. We stayed in Room 7 (Bamburgh Suite) and it was lovely and clean and comfortable. This js located at the front of the property with views of the church. The room was lovely and big with a sitting area. Hugh comfortable bed, plenty of tea and coffee and biscuits. Nice big and clean bathroom. The restaurant serves a good choice of food which was well presented and served promptly. It is a little on the expensive side but it is a very popular restaurant and so pleased I made a reservation prior to our stay as I don’t think there would have been any availability. When we stayed (May 22nd 2025) we were lucky to have gorgeous sunny weather and there is a nice patio outdoor seating area, perfect for summer evenings and with outdoor electric heaters for when the sun did go down. All in all we had a very pleasant and memorable stay at this hotel after a busy day exploring Northumberland. I recommend it and would stay again.
The 10am check out was abit too early for us but I know I could have asked for a later check out and it could have been honoured if possible.

good food quality and service excellent room
The Black Bull was a pub at one time, now it is a restaurant with rooms, there is no free seating bar area to sit and have a drink unless you book a meal. We had a table in the bar area and were quite satisfied for our one night stay but two groups who were eating in the Bull were complaining to the bar staff that they had nowhere to site prior to or after the booking time. This was a Saturday and fully booked, I guess it would not be a problem at a quiet time. This is a very new complete refurbishment and very nice, just needs to decide if it wants to be a pub or a restaurant We did request a double room via Bookings but ended up with a twin, not sure where the error occurred with the hotel or bookings.com Only able to check in at 4 pm, a bit late by most other

Paid a little extra for a larger room - well worth it. Lovely light / bright, clean room and bathroom. Comfortable bed and great shower. All staff were friendly and efficient. Bar had a good selection of beers / lagers. Evening meals were really good, the (trivial) issue was one of the starters was the size of a main. Breakfast certainly set us up for the day with plenty of choice and all freshly cooked. If we travel to this part of England again, this will be my first choice of places to stay.

The rooms were lovely and very well thought out with everything you could want or need. Decorated in a really tastefully and modern way but cosy and welcoming. The food was AMAZING! Truly fantastic.
The bed! Was like sleeping on a ship. Everytime one person moved the other did. Not great quality mattresses. 😕 the pillows were also lacking quality and were thin and had seen better days. B & B needs 2 things to be good. The bed, which was awful and breakfast, which was amazing. The hand soap bottle was broken and didn't pump and the toilet didn't flush properly.

An excellent stopping off place enroute to Scotland. Ample parking and warm welcome showing me to my room which was tastefully decorated with clear attention to detail (including charging points near bed and something to put your used tea bags in). I had my evening meal in the restaurant which was excellent. I sampled the crayfish salad and halibut which were both extremely tasty with friendly service. Breakfast was also tasty. All in all a most enjoyable stay and on my list to return to,
A little difficult to find your way out to car park prior to breakfast (e.g. when main doors not open)

Our room was clean and comfortable. Both bedroom and bathroom were of a good size. We had breakfast and dinner during our stay and all of the meals were well cooked and very tasty and good value for money. Staff members were friendly and helpful. Staying here means that you are well placed for sight seeing.
When we asked for the room to be made up during our stay supplies of tea, coffee and milk were not replenished.

Room, dinner and breakfast all fab. The price for B and B, with a great choice at breakfast, was really good value. The rooms are lovely and also warm and the open fire in the bar area, really welcoming. All staff that we encountered were lovely too. The evening meal options are fairly limited, but understandable in a rural location such as this as I’m sure in the winter months, gauging the number of customers must be very difficult. We had a very nice stay and would definitely return, if in the area again.

Breakfast option was a good choice. Room was clean and well presented. Ground floor room had access directly the car park from our room so easy to access, yet wasn't available to every room. Bathroom Fan had isolation switch, so didn't have to be on all the time. Comfortable bed and two pillows for each person on the bed. Tea and Coffee available in the room, as well as biscuits and bottle of water. People friendly.
I found the bathroom basin taps a little hard to turn off and had left one running by mistake, maybe the tap washer needed changing? Otherwise it was fine. Comfortable area to relax, as the bar / restaurant area seemed busy.
