Our second stay at Eight. Warm welcome at reception. This time we had a Superior King room which is in a separate building to the main hotel - only 1 min walk away which wasn't a problem. The room is in a lovely building, beautifully decorated, spacious with high ceilings and spotless ensuite shower room. Comfortable bed and good selection of tea/choc/coffee in the room.

Whilst the location in central Bath is great, it meant this room was noisy. It was on the ground floor by the main entrance so there was quite a bit of door slamming and we had loud upstairs neighbours who you could hear walking around (heavily) both at night and first thing in the morning from about 06.30. Plus, we were unlucky to have a shop alarm going off for an hour first thing and vehicles reversing right outside the window. Obviously not the hotel's fault but worth considering if you want a quiet lie in.

Location is excellent. The venue is split across two buildings. One houses the dining facilities, some rooms and the ‘honesty bar’. We were in the second building a short distance away. The location of this was truly lovely - the main door opening onto a square with a large tree. Viewers of Bridgerton will recognise the location. The Abbey and Roman Baths are literally round the corner. The rooms vary in size, spread over three floors. There is no lift. We were in room 19 on the third floor. I would describe it as an attic room. Adequate for a short stay but smaller than expected. Toiletries including earplugs included. Room 17, in comparison, was much larger and looked out over the square. If you struggle with stairs, you need to be specific with your requirements when booking re: floor and room size / facilities. The honesty bar is fantastic.

Breakfast was priced at £20 - a little high compared to surrounding venues. We did have an issue with the shower but it was attended to promptly. Some outside noise in the early hours from drunk idiots, but to be expected in such a central location.

Other than that the bed was extremely comfortable and the room was spotless although cleaners were quite noisy in the corridors hoovering outside our bedroom door when will still had a good amount of time to check out.

Did not have breakfast as too expensive on top of cost of room and because I believed I had paid for breakfast in with the price as it was room rate with breakfast non refundable. The bedroom was not really a suite and for all the space they could easily have had a king sized bed in the room instead of a small double in a massive room with hardly anything in it. There were no surfaces to put belongings either in the bedroom or bathroom. The table for coffee etc could have been bigger and the table between the two chairs could have been much bigger and more surface space in the very large bathroom.

The location is great, right in the middle of the old town, three minutes walking distance to Baths. The hotel is small and the building is very old, possibly from 1500s but that is what you expect from a building that sits next door (literally) from the oldest surviving residential building in town, from the 1400s. Although old, the hotel is well mantained and very clean. There is a bar in the basement that is up to you to use after the personnel leaves at about 6 pm. You just keep a record of what you drink and of course you can bring your own food and drinks. We had a good time there. Our son had his own room, basically. His quarters had no door, but it was a separate space with a bed, very convenient.

Nothing, really. You need to understand the limitations, that you are going to a historical building that must have relatively small rooms, short doors etc, a small inconvenience as part of the experience. Once you adjust your expectations, this hotel will surprise you as a really comfortable and welcoming place.

Staff ... professional and friendly. Over and above helpful and kind providing a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our 50 years of friendship. Bedding so comfortable and cosy. Location was superb. Light at floor level in the bathroom was very useful at night. It looked like the owners had sat or even stayed in the room to ascertain what was needed to ensure a comfortable break.

Size of the room was rather small. No sizeable drawer space. Chair had to be moved to use vanity drawers and just became an obstacle.

Beautiful! Great setting, gorgeous building and rooms. Comfortable bed & great bathroom facilities. Nice and secure / roomy etc Breakfast was lovely - albeit at £20 per person it was a bit expensive!

My only niggle (which I’m sure isn’t their fault - probably due to the old nature of the building) is there was no air con - we stayed there in 30 degree heatwave & once the room was warm it didn’t cool. They did provide tower fans in our room but the twin room had one fan that was slightly broken.

We stayed in one of the large rooms that come with the roll top bath that looked over the square. The location was amazing for getting around Bath centre. Close to everything and quite a buzzing atmosphere. It’s a very short walk from reception. Room was clean and tidy and comfortable. Only downside we had was that you’d expect a bigger bed for the size of the room.

Staff were great and helpful. Venue terrific. Room very good. We didn't use the bar, but it looked really nice.

Breakfast options could have been better. There was no cereal of any sort and all the cooked breakfast options included egg, which neither of us eat. The bacon, mushrooms and sausages were very good.

Fantastic location, comfortable bed, powerful showers, clean, staff were great, loved the honesty bar.

It was a bit warm and hard to cool down as our room was below ground level and the bathroom was lower still with no external ventilation so showering really warmed the whole room, and the one window didn’t create enough airflow. We were also below the main hallway and the room above us seemed to think moving around and dropping things at 4am was ok. So it was a bit hard to sleep with the noise of footfall above us. That said earplugs were provided!

This hotel truly deserves its fabulous rating. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Beautiful room with thoughtful touches like bottled water, homemade biscuits and even a Christmas card and cracker! Breakfast was £20 pp and well worth the money, we are foodies and this exceeded our expectations. We loved the location being so close to the shops and markets. The honesty bar just topped off the whole experience for us … we can’t wait to return one day
