We have previously stayed at the Abbeyleix Manor Hotel and have again enjoyed this recent visit. We have found it to be ideal for touring the area and visiting relations. The bedroom was large and comfortable and modernly furnished. The restaurant/bar staff were very friendly and welcoming as were the housekeeping staff. Most of our meals were taken in the hotel and all were of excellent quality and taste. The fish and chips and the chicken Caesar salad were probably the best I’ve ever had.The hotel has now become my ‘go to’ hotel when I’m in that area again.
Bathroom could do with updating - although it was perfectly clean and functional.

On the booking. Com website it says it is 0.6 kilometres from the centre of portlaoise it is in fact 7.8 miles
I originally got my dates wrong as I was going to portlaoise for a gaa match I booked for the 24th and 25th of may through booking. Com when I realised my mistake I phoned the abbeyleix manor hotel who told they had room available but I would have to get booking. Com to also change the dates when I contacted booking. Com they charged me an extra 98.09 pounds for doing this although the rooms were advertised cheaper when I actually stayed there on the 10th and 11th of May the change was made by booking. Com on the 7th of May

The staff especially in the dining room were exceptionally warm and friendly. Service was speedy and the food was great. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets crispy clean. There was plenty of parking and it was good value for money.
The soundproofing in the bedrooms was minimal - we could hear every door closing and voices. The traffic noise disturbed my husband’s sleep and it was worse because the rooms were too warm and stuffy. The shower kept cutting out and I don’t like over bath showers due to a dodgy knee.

We had a very nice stay at The Abbeyleix Manor Hotel. The hotel and restaurant staff were extremely friendly and hospitable. We liked our Irish breakfasts more than our evening meals, although the starter soup and beers were excellent. The location is lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed walking the nearby bog trail before we continued our journey.
One of the middle stairwells had an unusual smell.

I recently booked a night here for 9 of us travelling for work. We needed a post-midnight check-in. We arrived later than planned and still we were greeted with a very warm and hospitable welcome from Charlie the nightporter. The following morning, there was excellent service and manner from all other staff also. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. 9 of us slept very well. I would happily stay here again.

We arrived a couple of hours earlier than expected but it wasn't a problem. The room was clean and bright. The decor and furniture were of a good standard and nothing was a problem to any of the staff. We didn't stay for breakfast but I had dinner - sirloin beef with potatoes and vegetables which was excellent.
The only thing I noticed but didn't need it, was that the phone charger socket next to the bed was broken

Beds were very comfy and Staff were extremely helpful and friendly both at front desk and in the bar /restaurant. Food was beautiful
Only 1 problem which is minor enough when we turned on the bathroom light the fan sounded like it was coming through the ceiling therefore we tried not to turn on the bathroom light so as not to disturb anyone sleeping

Location for the purpose of our trip was excellent. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. staff were excellent.
No sky tv in the lounge. No food available, not even a sandwich, soup, sconce , nothing when we arrived, Bacic requirement. No bins outside, and cigarette buts everywhere. Provide a bin, and maybe a couple of nice table and chairs under canopies. Bin in our room hadn't been emptied, which means the room wasn't checked before being handed back to reception. No big deal, the room was clean and comfortable.

Food was so good. Bed was comfortable. The bog walk was absolutely great. We were given meals as we stayed on a second night from our booking. This was a replacement night from our last visit as we had to leave a day early due to close family bereavement. So thanks to the abbeyleix hotel management for kindness shown.
Think bath bar rails could be added for assistance in getting out of the bath/shower

Disappointed in the presentation of food for the evening meal but it was tasty and fine
