We loved this beautiful, luxurious, historic hotel. The artwork, the comfy sofa’s and fireplace in the lounge and bar was very inviting. Our room was on the top floor in a room with a gabled ceiling, something akin to being at Downtown Abbey, but Dutch. While we loved our room, the comfy bed, the soaking tub and sitting area overlooking the garden and pool, the next flight down on the second floor I noticed the garden terrace rooms were beautiful, with full French doors leading out to a private terrace. I wish I had known about them. The garden off the dining room was spectacular. such a pretty view.Later we walked outside and remarked that the grounds were really a small botanical garden with the 2nd largest and oldest Cinamon Camphor tree in South Africa. Really a stunning place to stay.

Having come from a 9 day, first class safari in Botswana, where the service was 110% impeccable, I hate to compare anyplace after that. As mentioned the room was comfortable and fully stocked, but the room attendant, didn’t remove dirty glasses with new ones and I asked for 4 bottles of water and only received 2 and we could have used a couple more small towels. But honestly it is easy enough to remedy the situation and perhaps the management can emphasize this to there housekeeping staff.

Everything was amazing. We wanted luxury, and we got it in bucketloads! This is, to date, the best hotel I have stayed in in the Cape. Attention to detail was 1st class. Very comfortable beds and lovely bathroom with a separate dressing area. We also had a lounge area with a complimentary, well stocked mini bar. Such a nice touch to also include bar snacks. The whole estate is gorgeous, and Constantia is beautiful. The staff were so helpful and happy! They even have a resident tortoise! Food was plentiful and delicious.

Absolutely nothing! Loved our stay and will definitely return next trip

If I could give 20 as rate wouldn't be enough! I have never seen so much lush greenery so perfectly maintained! The gardens at The Cellar Hohenort are an absolute masterpiece—every corner feels like stepping into a dream. The attention to detail in preserving such vibrant natural beauty is simply extraordinary. But what truly sets this place apart is the staff. They are nothing short of incredible—warm, genuine, and so refreshingly down-to-earth. Their kindness made every moment of my stay unforgettable. Every aspect of this property exudes perfection, from the immaculate surroundings to the heartfelt service. It’s not just a stay; it’s an experience that feels like a dream come to life. I can’t recommend The Cellar Hohenort enough—it’s a paradise I’ll never forget.

I had to leave...! 😤

The Cellars-Hohenort is a special hotel. It offers an experience that's hard to beat. The historic buildings have been beautifully restored and perfectly blend comfort, character, and style. The gardens are amazing, and the decor is full of surprises. It's in a lovely and quiet area, and even though it’s sophisticated, it’s easy to relax. Our teenagers loved every minute of it! Breakfast was always a highlight. The real standout was the staff. The service was always attentive and friendly. You definitely won’t forget a stay at the Cellars-Hohenort.

It is difficult to fault Cellars Hohenort on anything.

Everything about the hotel was perfect - from the initial welcome at reception, to the managers always making a point of circulating and talking to all guests. The food was superb, ambience amazing and our room was delightful. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were most accommodating to all of our requests.

Whilst they do offer chilled water, the only thing I could possibly suggest would be to offer some form of drinks/food service whilst sitting by the pools.

Service was so lovely and welcoming even after a break of 2 years! Special call out to Ethan and Quiet who are truly fabulous- discreet, professional but wonderfully warm and friendly with a lovely sense of humour. Beda are magnificently comfortable and the hotel is a real sanctuary tucked in a quiet corner of the spectacular area of Constantia. Spa equally superb. Wonderful service but make sure you book in advance; it gets busy!

Beautiful grounds and the interiors were stunning as well. We were able to really relax and use the facilities for the last few days of our trip. Food in the restaurant was great and we enjoyed the atmosphere each time of day.

There's really only one restaurant onsite as the other is for High Tea which is only on Saturday/Sunday and you have to book. We arrived Sunday and were essentially turned away from High Tea as we had no booking. The staff in the restaurant seem a bit unhappy which shows in their service style..

This hotel is an absolute gem! From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with stunning views that take your breath away, complemented by beautifully maintained gardens that provide a tranquil escape. The staff are nothing short of amazing—attentive, warm, and truly make you feel at home. The cleanliness is impeccable, leaving no room for complaints. The hotel was a fantastic balance of relaxing comfort and upmarket luxury. The staff, in particular Manuel, who took us to visit Kirstenbosch Gardens, and Alaska, who was a friendly face at breakfast every morning. The management team are very hands on and Tanya and the other managers were very visible throughout our stay.

Genuinely nothing. Due to the age of the hotel, there is no lift to the upper floors so if mobility is an issue, speak to the hotel to make them aware.

Great location. Friendly staff at front desk, restaurant and rooms.

Extremely noisy inside dining room. Had to leave room before finishing meal because of a loud/boisterous group at next table. Physical keys for room (versus key card) is a throw-back to past. Though there's plenty of security on property, changing out to a modern technology would be an improvement.
