This is probably the most outstanding Boutique property I have stayed at anywhere in the world! It is super clean. The staff are amazing. The food and breakfast are 10 star and it’s in a great walkable safer neighbourhood. I’m in Africa for two weeks and to be honest I would’ve been happy to spend my whole time tucked away in this oasis.

I am so fussy there is always something I don’t like but for the first time in years of travelling there is nothing I didn’t like about this property!

We liked everything: the elegant and understated decor, the artworks around the hotel, the comfortable room with all its extras such as body lotion, tissues, tea, coffee and water, the terrace outside our room where we could sit outside in the sunshine, the superb food at the restaurant designed around tapas dishes which were beautifully cooked and presented, the stone fired pizza, the outstanding staff who were all so professional, cheerful and friendly and whose personal service made us feel special. It’s nothing like those big, impersonal, bland hotels. We enjoyed our stay so much, we didn’t want to leave.

A little more focus on maintenance would make this hotel perfect.

There are many things about Clico hotel that are positive - the best being the staff. Peggy and the team were very helpful, polite and attentive to our needs. Peggy was very helpful in offering advice for exploring safely around Johannesburg. Our taxi shuttle service from the airport to the hotel was well organised and our driver Dan was very pleasant. The food was delicious, especially the cooked breakfasts. The location is perfect, it is safe area and we felt comfortable walking to and from the hotel to the local mall for restaurants and shops. The room was very smart, clean and elegant, especially for the price, it was fantastic value for money. If you want a more characterful and comfortable place to stay in Jo'burg that is not a carbon copy chain hotel, then I highly recommend Clico Hotel.

The bed was comfortable and there were nice pillow options. I often struggle to find a nice size pillow when I travel and this met my needs.

I stayed in room 2 and it was not ideal that it is was so close to Reception, it was very loud at once point, but Peggy was vert kind and helpful and made sure that the inter leading door was closed and that there was no more noise for me. The guesthouse feels a bit outdated and I think could use some fixing up of some exterior / interior parts like the window panes, sliding door etc. It also looked a bit messy close to the shed in the garden and this could be neatened up for more of an aesthetic look.

I've used Clico several times and like almost everything about it. There are a few minor points I've mentioned over the years that have not been addressed but not enough to NOT come back. Location, security, staff, grounds, restaurant are amazing. Room 1 & Room ?? (ground floor on right) need attention: Safes need to be attached to the wall for tru security. The latter room was very damp and it's a bit odd not having a bathroom door. Staff are well trained and charming. Security for parking is good. Food outstanding. Pool wasn't crystal clear or scooped but it was the rainy season.

This was our third stay at Clico, and it has truly become our home away from home in Johannesburg. The location is ideal, and the rooms offer great comfort. The staff consistently go above and beyond, always warm and helpful, ensuring our stay is effortlessly enjoyable.

I do feel the windows and balcony doors could use a little TLC, as they are starting to show their age. While the building's historic charm is undeniable, some updates to these fittings would enhance the overall experience. I was also a bit underwhelmed with breakfast this time, as it didn’t quite meet the usual standard. I understand the chef is experimenting with new offerings, but the absence of sausages was noticeable, and the shakshuka was quite different from the one I enjoyed a few months ago. Lastly, it might be worth considering citronella candles or another solution to address the flies during breakfast service.

I stayed at Clico Hotel for a night. The place has a lovely design, especially the common area, the room, and the restaurant. I opted for the Superior King room on the first floor, which offers a pool and garden view, highly recommended by the staff. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the room was spotlessly clean. Upon returning to my room in the evening, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they had made my bed and left a small heart-shaped red cake. It was a thoughtful touch that warmed my heart, showing the hotel's attention to its guests. The breakfast is highly recommended. There's a buffet, and you can also order from the menu. The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly attentive. I highly recommend staying at Clico Boutique Hotel! Thank you for the warm welcome.

They were so accommodating and the restaurant downstairs was really yummy. It was nice to have a nice restaurant on-site like that. Walk to Rosebank Mall was quick and generally safe.

The first room we were put in was downstairs next to reception, and we heard everything going on at the entrance/reception. However, they were very kind to move us upstairs at the earliest possible opportunity, and the room and balcony (which was shared, btw, but that didn't bother us at all) were lovely. Really great value for the price.

Clico Boutique hotel is in a safe area of Jo'burgh. It has private off street parking and security on the gate. The hotel is small but feels very homely. The rooms are large, with very comfortable beds and pillows. AC is good quality. Tea / Coffee and kettle also provided. The hotel restaurant had really good food - I would highly recommend the pizza made in the tradition wood fired oven. Breakfast was included and was also of a very high quality.
