Hotel was in a great location, close to the old town, the railway station and next to the tramway. The room was clean and regularly checked.

The pillows were too soft, compressing easily and offering no comfort. During our stay, daytime temperatures were in the mid to high 30s and the room heated up. The room only had a fan which was insufficient to keep the room cool and thus requiring opening the windows which were on a Main Street, allowing the rumble of passing trams to disturb one’s sleep. A portable AC unit would have been a great relief. The room had no “Do Not Disturb” sign.

The hotel's location is perfect, just a few minutes walk from the city centre, a moderately elegant and clean place to stay. The staff is nice and the hotel manager at my arrival was super kind and helpful. I had some issues with the room (detailed below) but they found solution for everything.

I booked last minute, which is probably why I was accomodated in a tiny room on the top floor, where the bathroom was separated from the sleeping area by nothing more than an uninsulated sliding glass door. The only window in the room looked out onto an enclosed courtyard. Because of this, there was no real ventilation in the room, and after my evening shower, the air was hot and stifling, so I hardly slept a wink the first night. An AC would help a lot in such rooms. The built-in hairdryer in the same room did not work but emitted a burning smell when switched on. Despite the safety hazard, I felt that my report was not taken seriously, although I was given a replacement hairdryer.

Excellent location right in old town where main attractions are located; easy access to train, tram, food, shopping; helpful and friendly staff. Our room has a balcony that looks out to main square. Trams stop in front. Thanks to Tonja who advised us to see Gunther mountain on our first day. Has kettle/ tea in room.

Limited space, a couple is ok for 1-2 days. If mobility issue, there are 2 steps to get into small lobby then 2 more steps to elevator that is more than 100 year old so only 2 people at a time and allows only medium size luggage. Then elevator goes down to 1st floor only and you have to ask reception to push elevator control to reach ground floor to exit the hotel. Was informed breakfast from 7-10 but food was already out by 9:30. No hot food.

During our trip, we stayed at a wonderful hotel in Bern, and it was a fantastic experience. The hotel’s location was absolutely perfect, right in the heart of the city center. It made exploring Bern so easy, as everything we wanted to see and do was just a short walk away. The price was also very reasonable, especially considering its prime location. It felt like excellent value for the convenience and comfort provided. The hotel itself was clean and well-maintained, with cozy rooms that made our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, this hotel in Bern was an ideal choice for its combination of affordability, comfort, and unbeatable location. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay in the city!

The only downside was that there was no parking spot available at the hotel, which could be a bit inconvenient for those traveling by car. However, this was a minor issue given all the other positives.

My stay at Hotel National Bern was an absolute delight! The hotel blends old-world charm with modern comfort, making it a truly unique experience. The rooms were cozy and well-appointed, offering a peaceful retreat after exploring the beautiful city of Bern. One of the highlights was the friendly and attentive staff—they went out of their way to ensure every detail of our stay was perfect. The location is fantastic, just a short walk from the heart of the city, making it incredibly convenient to explore. Overall, Hotel National Bern offers a wonderful combination of comfort, hospitality, and location. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Bern!

Room was small which was fine but I was given sole access to an outside space as well which was a treat. Everything in the room was perfect for my stay, tastefully decorated, very good quality bedding and linen, natural materials in the bathroom. The staff could not have been nicer; they were outstandingly helpful with everyone and multi- lingual. Breakfast offered a great range of fresh food in the traditional way. Transport was at the door.

Hotel is very conveniently located close to the main train station. The room we were in was a recently refurbished room facing out onto the tram stop. Even with this the room was quiet, spacious, and included everything that we would have expected. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast downstairs in the restaurant was included and extremely convenient. Hotel location is excellent for access to Bern via either the trams out front, or just by walking.

This didn't worry me, but with reception on the first floor, and those staying in higher floor rooms, there is only one lift and it is 120 years old (seriously). Take the stairs if you can, but it is a very novel ride.

An historic hotel with a 120+ year old lift to take us up to our floor. Very nostalgic. We ate dinner outside across the street where the hotel had a portable cafe set up and a small television for watching Euro 2024 football. Breakfasts in the hotel were plentiful, with lots of homemade breads.

All was good. Location was easy to get around. Reservation included free public transportation which helped us get around town. I love the sound of transportation, so hearing the trams and buses outside the hotel did not bother me. And there are lots of them, which provide easy access.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Very clean hotel. Excellent linen and bedding. A historic hotel (110 years old) that has been carefully preserved, but modernized where appropriate (for example, bathrooms). Great value for the price paid. Special thanks to Emma for her hospitality.

Breakfast was pretty meagre - a very small selection of bread, some yoghurt, meat, & processed cheese. No muesli, no sweet baked goods of any kind, no hot food of any kind. This is my only complaint about the otherwise excellent hotel.

The hotel was in a good location, close to town,, and transport.The reception staff were very nice and helpful, the lift was very quirky. The breakfast was average and so were the staff. No coffee was provided in our room and when we asked for coffee we were told that they only provided tea which was very disappointing..

The fact that no coffee was provided in the room. No black out curtains or blinds so the room was very light when sleeping.
