It’s a lovely compact boutique hotel that had a lot more than I expected it to have! Super clean and comfortable, with a modern, minimalist look. I booked a single room for myself, which was a little small but well-appointed, and perfect for my needs. My sisters got a double room plus, which was much bigger. I love that they give sweets and water in the room. Location is super central and has great transport links by tram or regional/international trains. The staff are excellent! Cleaning staff are really friendly and so great at their jobs; reception are super helpful and knowledgeable, and take time out to really make every guest’s stay a great experience.

There’s a lift, but there are still small steps getting into the building and along the corridor to the rooms. No kettle or fridge in the rooms, but there’s a communal coffee & tea station in the corridor and ice in the breakfast area. There are some rooms (in the guesthouse building) that don’t have AC and only have fans, so if that is important to you then it’s something to consider asking about when booking.

Great location and staff. Breakfast also nice and fresh. I stayed at the hotel in two different occasions in one week. the first time was great, the room (212) was spacious and comfortable, with a coffee/tea station located in every hallway, which is super convenient and makes the stay very pleasant. It's so close to the Zurich Station, which is perfect when the weather is not the best - no need to get wet since you're so close!

During my second stay in the same week, I mentioned I had enjoyed staying in the second floor and said I enjoyed the room 212, they offered me room 211 and it was really small, with a single person bed, and a small room that I could hardly move. Luckily I was coming back from a busy few days of meetings around Switzerland and was late afternoon and I was going to leave early the next day, otherwise it would have been uncomfortable to stay in such a small room, Id have liked to know that this was going to be the size of the room I was given when I checked in.

Fantastic location. A very short walk (2 minutes with lots of luggage?) from the Hauptbahnhof Sihlquai entrance/exit, maybe 100m. Clean and quiet with friendly, helpful staff. Rented two rooms for one night. One room for adult parents with one double bed, the other for adult sons (24 and 22 years) with two single beds. Room with two singles was significantly larger. Room with double bed was quite small (I should have paid more attention about room size whilst booking). Smaller rooms are to be expected in the heart of Zürich, but if I had to do it over again, I'd have gotten both rooms with two single beds for the extra space (it wasn't that much more expensive).

Breakfast quality was fine. I purchased the breakfast option to avoid having to find a place to eat in the morning. Nothing special about the food, but nothing bad. It's Zürich, everything's expensive, but I can't say the breakfast was a good value. No complaints about quality (standard Swiss, which never seems to be worse than "good"), but perhaps overpriced. If you choose to purchase the breakfast, make sure you're purchasing it for everyone in your party. It wasn't obvious to me when I booked that I had only paid for 2 breakfasts, and I had 4 people. This might be a problem between the Booking.com and Fred Hotel's computer systems, or maybe it was my mistake. Front desk informed me of the issue when I checked in, so there was no morning surprise.

Location of the hotel is just steps away from main railway station and bus station . All convenience stores are within 10 minutes walk . Shopping centers about 30 minutes walk or 5 minutes tram ride . Trams stop in front of hotel .

There was no tea kettle in the room to warm water to make tea . There is a coffee machine on each floor but for guests in room kettle helps in to make tea to their liking . Also there should be a small microwave to reheat food somewhere in the hotel as all tours finish after 8 pm and there is nothing to eat because most nearby shops close . This is very important for solo travellers .

The room was small-ish, but very clean and serviceable for a brief stay. Despite a central location near the train station, it was very quiet and peaceful. In addition, it was located very close to Old Town, the bus station from which our two day tours departed, and was thus VERY convenient. The breakfast was fair, but suffered in comparison two our two previous hotels, which had very impressive breakfast. However, taken in the context of the rather modest 15 euros price, it was a pretty good value.

It would have been nice to have had a mini fridge in the room, as we usually have had in hotel rooms.

The breakfast was good with enough options for vegetarians. The location was very convenient. Literally next to the Zurich central train station and bus station. Lots of restaurants nearby. Reception staff was very helpful and helped us find our way around Zurich.

The housekeeping service was quite rude. On one of the days we changed our do not disturb sign to clean me as we stepped out to go out for the day. Although this was done before 12pm as suggested by the reception, she was offended that we changed it.

Very friendly and accommodating staff, multilingual. The hotel is pretty much directly opposite the train station and despite being on a relatively busy street with a tram stop in front and the bus terminal across the way our room was absolutely quiet - the windows are perfectly soundproof. Room was clean and tidy, we had a safe in our room, bathtub with shower (quite noble and unexpected)... Good breakfast selection, not too much and not too little. Recommended!

Tub was a little high to climb into to take a shower, not recommended if you have mobility issues, so ask for a room with a walk-in shower if you do.

Overall was very satisfied with Fred hotel, it was near the Sihlquai exit of the train station i.e. 5-6 minute walk from the main station exit/Bahnhofstrasse. The room was clean, there was AC (great for the summer), and the online check-in and check-out was truly convenient.

As we were in Zurich for the Polyball, we got back to the hotel at 4 in the morning. Although there is someone at the front desk 24 hours, we still had to wait out in the cold for a few minutes (would not have minded if it was summer). I would recommend giving guests who plan to come back to the hotel late at night/early in the morning a keycard that they can give back to the front desk upon leaving. Additionally, a mini fridge in the room would've been nice.

Excellent location! We chose this hotel for its central location close to both the train and bus station as well as the comparatively large room size. The location is absolutely perfect and also has many restaurants and markets nearby. The rooms are modern and clean and although fairly minimalist have everything we needed. The rooms are also surprisingly quiet. Another reason we chose the hotel was for the ability to store our bags on early arrival but the (friendly!) staff did even better and allowed us early check in.

All staff helpful. Giuseppe went out of his way to show me directions I needed that morning, giving bus info. Breakfast nice, again staff helpful. Lovely selection of cheeses, good bread, fruit and coffee. Eggs and bacon.

Roadworks nearby at present but not hotel’s fault. It’s a busy area but very close to the station and convenient. Nothing really negative to say. Not sure if Booking.com show reviews if negative points are written. Always seems to ‘positive’ on their site. We often verify a place with google reviews. Walhalla is really good.
