Discovered after lockdown, The Velvet Orchid has become a firm favourite of ours when in Chiangmai. This is a gracious hotel with character. Location within the walls of the Old City, Southwest, was great. Khom Chocolatier, The Faces and Huen Phen plus Wat Chedi Luang are all right there. You’re also just a short walk (outside the City walls) away from Aum - a great Vegan, Vegetarian restaurant. The workmanship employed in the bathrooms here is worth a mention - if a bit quirky (hot and cold water plus opening and closing the taps is counter to what is usual for us westerners). We’ve stayed in three different rooms over the years, and they’re all similarly high quality and well thought out - design wise.

The rooms are clean and comfortable with great AC, and there's a working elevator. The staff are really friendly and helpful; they answered all my questions and were always pleasant to talk with. There's no breakfast or coffee or anything, but you are very close to some good restaurants (more expensive ones and local hole-in-the-wall type places, like the must-try Huen Phen) and some amazing coffee (try Akha Amma!) I also loved the neighborhood -- a tiny bit less touristy than the rest of the Old Town; you could see lots of Thai families hanging out at the shops and restaurants.

My only complaint was that the hotel was immediately next to a primary school so it got a bit loud. The kids sing the national anthem (and a few other songs) every weekday morning starting at 7:30, and are quite loud at recess too. It didn't bother me much because I was usually out and about early -- and I liked being in a neighborhood where I felt like local people actually lived their lives. It's just something to consider if you're super sensitive to noise!

The room feels a bit small but the amenities and furniture were high quality and gave a pleasant atmosphere. The Wifi was really good, connectivity everywhere in the room and high speed. The sockets were multi-standard so they also supported US connectors. There were 2 windows in 2 directions, there was a nice street view from the balcony. The hotel was quite in the middle of the Old City and close to most of the interesting attractions. The staff was very supportive, kind and available.

1. The kettle had a short cord and it wasnt' possible to connect it to the socket. It had to be put down on a low shelf near the safe to make it work. 2. There was no stable hot water flow. The water in the shower would be cold only for periods of a few minutes. 3. The TV was attached to the wall and one could not connect a HDMI plug. The TV show quality was mediocre because of bad reception.

Boutique hotel in a quiet side-street, yet close to major sites. Elegantly furnished in traditional Thai style. Full complement of foreign news channels. Lobby features specialty teas for sale to connoisseurs. Rare for a small three storey hotel, it has a lift/elevator. Quieter side-rooms face a neighbouring block without windows, so private. Charming antique-style brass fittings in the bathroom. Helpful and polite staff who do their best with limited English, especially Rein

Sides with a bit of a view, face a school which could be noisy weekdays. Some rooms have far less wardrobe, drawer space and desk size than others. A desk lamp for reading and hand-towel rail in bathroom would help. Tepid hot water in bathroom – both sink and shower. Limited electric plug points, mostly near bed rather than desk for computer.

The property has a really nice interior design and we felt really comfortable for the one night we stayed. The staff was really kind and helpful. Everything was clean. Also the location in the old town was quite nice for reaching everything by walking.

The shower was kinda hard to control and we heard an annoying noice coming from the bathroom the whole night, maybe that could get fixed. Also we couldn’t get the big light in the bathroom to be working. We also couldn’t find a safe in the room to lock up our important belongings. But all in all it was a great stay!

Very central location, close to restaurants, shops and massage places. Walking distance to the Sunday market, 10 minutes. For being in the old town, it was good value. Also needed the elevator for older folks. Rooms were clean.

Staff was not the friendliest, did not respond to any messages via booking.com. Didnt seem to be trained for customer service. Can't flush toilet paper but that's quite common in Thailand. Lobby was a bit cluttery.

The location was good and the room was clean, although not spotless clean. The staff was helpful.

The hotel didn't feel as fancy as in the pictures, but we liked it anyway! There is a school nearby and children start singing songs early in the morning, which is a nice way to get to know Thai culture 🤣

No breakfast on site, but there are lots of nice places nearby. The hotel is in the center of the walled city, near Wat Chedi Luang. It's near a school, but my room was nice and quiet. The staff were excellent.

I would have liked to have breakfast available at the hotel.

I had a lovely, comfortable stay here. The room was tidy and clean. It was very quite inside and out the hotel. So, good sleep was guarantueed. Overall, the value for money is just great. I really liked the location. Not too busy, but you still have a lot of eateries, massages around you in walking distance. I would definitely come back.

The hotel looks lie somebodies family house bud the family is rich) Everything is detailed and done with the attention to the details. We were not in the highest season but even if it costed double of it's price it is worth it.

The reception area needs more organisation. It looks like the stuff have just moved in.
