The room was nice, clean and comfortable. The food was also good. The atmosphere is cosy and the location is good. The staff are great.

You have ripped the heart out of the original Pheasant Inn by removing the beautiful lounge and breakfast room. Thank you for keeping the original bar a great place for a drink, coffee or food. Breakfast was a bit chaotic with the serve yourself section in a smaller place, another change from the calmer table service that there used to be. Also I like dogs but there were too many and our evening meals were disturbed by tables with surrounding dogs interacting with each other plus smells! There needs to be a dog free eating place for those who choose it.

Stunning location beautiful walks. Easy to find with lots of parking and very friendly helpful staff. Food was really nice. Room was super and dog friendly!! We really liked the atmosphere and felt very relaxed. The service was very good in the evening Alison etc were great ... morning staff were not quite as friendly/attentive. Really good value for our stay.

There could be a bit more in the room for the dog eg water bowl blanket...also a door mat would be really helpful when stepping in from outside across the lawn. Few little snags in the room towel rail coming away from the wall and door was hard to close properly without having to slam it shut. But didn't impact our stay. Food was excellent although we definitely could have eaten more at the evening meal! Really wanted some veg with the mains without having to order it as a side.

The staff were lovely and the manager was very good and helpful. The location is super and the garden area is exceptional. The food we had was very good on the whole. We needed a room on the ground floor as my husband is disabled and this was readily provided.

The room was smaller than we expected for the money we paid and seemed a bit tired, could do with a refresh. My husband didn’t really sleep as he said there was noise coming from the bathroom. I couldn’t hear it at all in fairness. There is a fault which caused the fire alarm to go off and we had to evacuate the hotel. I was in my nightdress and had to sit outside, so was a bit embarrassed. It was well- managed, but apparently it has happened before, so should be sorted out. The food was heavily focussed on venison, which I don’t like and there was no beef steak available, even though it was stated on the specials menu. It seemed strange for no steak at all to be available- it is such a common favourite for a pub meal. However the salmon and sea bass we had were very good.

Location was lovely and hotel was easy to find. Lovely room and bathroom, with large comfortable bed. Towels were really big and fluffy

Room was above kitchen, with vey noisy extract system. Was so loud when we arrived I looked out the window to see if there was a plane! Woke us up at 6.45am, together with loud banging from kitchen. Hotel know this is an issue. We work in the industry and know good hotels do not having letting rooms above the kitchen, it's just greedy. We were given a discount when we complained, but why not put a silencer on the thing, they do exist. Food was OK, but wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. Hate hotels that provide hair dryers that need the button holding down to keep them on, had to keep resting my fingers.

This hotel is a gem. Sure it doesnt have a gym or swiming pool, but it offers a really nice inn experience in a quiet location close to the Northern fells and Keswick. With ample parking you can do some great country walks from the hotel door. Our room was spacious with a large ensuite and whilst there was no bath, the shower was excellent.. Our bed was large and very comfortable. The hotel is very dog friendly allowing them access to the snug bar and many of the other public rooms. The main bar, which also has restaurant tables, is dog free, but that causes no problems because they are allowed nearly everywhere else. The food is excellent, both in choice and quality. The menu comprises 'standard' pub food options, but also some rarer choices such as pheasant breast (which was cooked to perfection) all priced at very good value. Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of buffet items omplemented by a good range of cooked options. The staff are very friendly and attentive.

I wish I had found this place before. It is what it is, but everything is done so well. We stayed two nights but it should have been ten.

We loved the room Applethwaite. It was no1. At breakfast there was a great selection and enjoyed the dog free zone. The breakfast food was hot and well presented. The bar drinks were reasonable and the outside garden bar snacks were delivered quickly and served hot. The garden area was busy with visiting walkers etc and like most places accepting lots of dogs.. We were using our motorhome and the parking was safe and spacious. The staff from arrival to leaving were very nice. It was also nice to see some locals employed by the group.

It was our 50th wedding anniversary and we were a little disappointed with the evening meal ordered. Somehow it didn’t feel special but having to order from the bar took a little shine off our meal. The food wasn’t hot, my steak was served with minimal Chips and 1/2 a tomato. Was expecting a little more. My wife’s meal jalfrezi wasn’t hot either. We’re too nice to complain as it would have spoiled the meal. Finally the wine. Not a good Chardonnay for over £30.

We had an excellent stay at the The Pheasant Inn, Bassenthwaite. Our (classic double) room was clean and comfy. The food was great. All staff was very friendly. Free parking, wifi worked fine. Good location for exploring Bassenthwaite lake or Derwent water. Highly recommended!

The service could have been a bit better. There was no-one at the reception for check-in. We waited for 10-15 minutes and had to ask twice at the bar to get someone to get us checked in. While the food was very good (and served quickly), we had to queue at the bar to order. The queue was always long and slow, as every customer had to give their table number, room number and last name. Feels like this could be more efficient...

The room was very nice looking onto the gardens. We ate on three occasions and it was very good.

Checking into the room time could be a little more flexible. Depending on the travelling times for customers there are several roadworks which you can’t predict. Therefore people have to make allowances for the journey and sometimes arrive earlier than expected. To be met by “I can’t let you into the room yet” is a little off putting. It would have been nice to hear “Your room isn’t ready yet but I will let you know as soon as it’s done “

A welcoming, warm and friendly inn that is set up well for hiker and dogs. The rooms was a good size and fit our two dog beds in well. The bed was king size (at least) and easy to control the temperature in the room to ensure it suited us and we were comfortable. We had great nights sleep. The food for breakfast (included) was delicious, over our stay we also had something from their lunch and dinner menu, we were really pleased with the food quality and taste! The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed. We would definitely choose to stay here again to go on some other walks nearby.

This hotel is located in a quiet location close to Sale Fell. Lovely room, clean and tidy. The shower was fantastic, especially the handshower was like a high pressure cleaner. View on lovely maintained garden in true ‘geoffrey smith’ style. The walk up Sale Fell which starts from the hotel is worth walking. The views from the lop are really awesome.

The hotel runs a reward scheme for a complementary drink when you choose not to have your room cleaned on the second day. Unfortunately the voucher is only valid on the first day and not during the whole stay. So we were refused this complementary drink on the second day. Bad marketing from our point of view.
