The hotel had a very welcoming atmosphere. All the staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. The food in the formal restaurant was exceptionally good, and the all- day service in the Orangery very useful for guests needing to eat at different times according to travel plans, as well as being a very comfortable and airy space- a relief in the very hot weather we experienced.

We would have liked a larger room, but had to book a ‘cosy’ room to get a free standing shower. All other rooms had the shower over the bath, an impossibility for us, and I would think many elderly visitors. (We have found this a common problem when trying to book a hotel) The garden was great, but needs more comfortable chairs at the tables!

We were welcomed on arrival by a very friendly and polite man, who was very helpful and offered us the opportunity of any help any time throughout the night. As we were parking, he came out to the car park to see if we were close enough to our room. The room was spotlessly clean along with everything in it, and the bed was comfortable. There was a small room with a dressing table, plenty of hanging space there was a kettle, along with tea, coffee and other extras, a fan and an extra heater. For an unplanned stay, in the bathroom, which was also spotless, there was everything you would need other than toothpaste and toothbrush. Pulling up to the hotel we saw three dear right outside, just before that wild boar, looked like a mother and her young we later heard an owl then saw it flying over when popping out to the car. so, for those who enjoy the beauty on a walk or just a picturesque scenery all around, it's perfect. We only stayed the night but have been to their restaurant and the meal was lovely we also used the bar, we arrived late so didn't have the chance on thus occasion. Many thanks for a beautiful and enjoyable stay. Our only disappointment was that we overslept and missed breakfast. We should have used the hotels' wake-up call option. Well worth the money and highly recommended.

The place has a lot of character and it is very well located with lots of things to do right on the doorstep. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I have a severe nut allergy and the staff made sure the food I ordered was nut free. The rooms were very nicely presented and a good size, I stayed in one of the cottage rooms. The bed was very comfy and a good size. The room came with tea/ coffee making facilities, hairdryer and toiletries. I had the best time away (could have easily stayed for longer). I would definitely go back again. Thank you to all the staff at Speech House for making my stay really enjoyable and the perfect little getaway.

Stayed in chalet number 33, parked car literally outside chalet , room was very clean with tea/ coffee making facilities, tv, bathroom had a shower which worked well and not a bath but that was not a problem for us, Short walk to main building, to reception, bars & restaurant, Menu for evening meal had plenty of choices which was all freshly cooked, buffet style breakfast was plentiful with full English or continental, fresh coffee, juices , toast etc you wanted for nothing, All staff were very helpful friendly and informative nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again

Although there was a double size standard bed, it would of been nice to have had a king size bed, but that’s the only drawback for us, as we have a king size bed at home.

The Speech House was everything an old English Inn should be. The food is outstanding, and the staff are so accommodating. It may only be rated as a 3 star hotel, but my stay there really felt like a luxury stay. The location is right in the heart of the Forest with several walks available directly from the hotel. The famous Puzzlewood is just a short 10 minute drive.

I'm not sure I could honestly come up with anything I didn't like. Maybe a little extra attention to detail with some cleaning (minor cobwebs in corners, under bathtub handles etc.)

We had a courtyard room, which was clean and comfortable with everything you needed..but quite small if you were staying for more than a couple of nights. We had a couple of issues with the fine dining restaurant, but it was their first night of reopening same..and all problems were resolved by the maitre d, which was sincerely appreciated. We attended a family funeral wake, which was absolutely excellent, well organised and lovely food. Special thanks go the lovely lady receptionist, sorry can't remember her name ...who was so kind and helpful, 5 🌟.

All the staff were friendly and helpul. We paid to have breakfast included and it was excellent. They were very accommodating with my vegetarian daughter. We also ate there with a friend for the Sunday roast. We all enjoyed our lunch very much. Both breakfast and lunch were served in the lovely setting of the Vederers’ Court. With a large, warm fire in the fireplace and the Christmas decorations, the room was beautiful.

‘The bathroom in our unit (one of the outside units) could have done with some attention. The shower was very hard to work and tended to “wash” the floor. There was a slight bit of mold on the wall behind the toilet.

Great rooms and very comfortable. The location is amazing with so much walking in the Forest of Dean on your doorstep. The staff are brilliant (thank you Sarah and reception staff for being so helpful). Breakfasts are superb, restaurants are brilliant, and they are very dog friendly. Good wifi. Visit to restaurant No 3 in Ross on Wye, superb restaurant.

Not The Property but for info This whole area is a wifi, telephone signal blank spot. Taxis are hard to get (we used Chippies Taxis who were great but a one man band, however totally reliable.

To be fair, all of it. Sarah and Hayley on reception were amazing - I managed to enter the wrong expiry on my card when booking and had several calls from them, was worried the booking might get cancelled but they were just simply fab. Breakfast with Chaz was to die for. We travel a lot, and breakfast is always something we look at; we never eat what we plan to, but it's a great indicator of a great hotel - yours was awesome. Love the fact that its entrenched in history but you are in the process of modernizing it sympathetically.

Staff were lovely, so kind and helpful. Beds very comfy. The location was excellent - the forest being right at the door of the hotel. The food and service were also of a high standard. We had a really nice stay.

The road noise. Our room was on the road side. The lamps on the bedside tables were very dusty and the bathroom, though clean overall could do with a clean around the toilet pan. The room was otherwise fine.
