Stayed in chalet number 33, parked car literally outside chalet , room was very clean with tea/ coffee making facilities, tv, bathroom had a shower which worked well and not a bath but that was not a problem for us, Short walk to main building, to reception, bars & restaurant, Menu for evening meal had plenty of choices which was all freshly cooked, buffet style breakfast was plentiful with full English or continental, fresh coffee, juices , toast etc you wanted for nothing, All staff were very helpful friendly and informative nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again

Although there was a double size standard bed, it would of been nice to have had a king size bed, but that’s the only drawback for us, as we have a king size bed at home.

We had a courtyard room, which was clean and comfortable with everything you needed..but quite small if you were staying for more than a couple of nights. We had a couple of issues with the fine dining restaurant, but it was their first night of reopening same..and all problems were resolved by the maitre d, which was sincerely appreciated. We attended a family funeral wake, which was absolutely excellent, well organised and lovely food. Special thanks go the lovely lady receptionist, sorry can't remember her name ...who was so kind and helpful, 5 🌟.

All the staff were friendly and helpul. We paid to have breakfast included and it was excellent. They were very accommodating with my vegetarian daughter. We also ate there with a friend for the Sunday roast. We all enjoyed our lunch very much. Both breakfast and lunch were served in the lovely setting of the Vederers’ Court. With a large, warm fire in the fireplace and the Christmas decorations, the room was beautiful.

‘The bathroom in our unit (one of the outside units) could have done with some attention. The shower was very hard to work and tended to “wash” the floor. There was a slight bit of mold on the wall behind the toilet.

Great rooms and very comfortable. The location is amazing with so much walking in the Forest of Dean on your doorstep. The staff are brilliant (thank you Sarah and reception staff for being so helpful). Breakfasts are superb, restaurants are brilliant, and they are very dog friendly. Good wifi. Visit to restaurant No 3 in Ross on Wye, superb restaurant.

Not The Property but for info This whole area is a wifi, telephone signal blank spot. Taxis are hard to get (we used Chippies Taxis who were great but a one man band, however totally reliable.

To be fair, all of it. Sarah and Hayley on reception were amazing - I managed to enter the wrong expiry on my card when booking and had several calls from them, was worried the booking might get cancelled but they were just simply fab. Breakfast with Chaz was to die for. We travel a lot, and breakfast is always something we look at; we never eat what we plan to, but it's a great indicator of a great hotel - yours was awesome. Love the fact that its entrenched in history but you are in the process of modernizing it sympathetically.

The staff were friendly and very polite and helpful. The food was limited choice but tasted very gd . The room was very tight and small . Lack of air into room made breathing difficult and uncomfortable. Bed was clean and comfortable. except for the shower room was absolutely awful needed a gd scrub clean from mould shower door very stiff n stuck toilet was extremely low. Not suitable with mobility issues for 2 adults.

The shower / bathroom toilet too low caused back issues and shower was filthy of mould etc

Parking was very easy. The whole place had a cosy feel about it and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! All very clean, tidy and warm in the main building. Lots of choice at breakfast and a very cosy reading room - a good idea!

The room mix up upon arrival after a long drive, but the matter was dealt with within minutes and luckily we could change rooms. There is a strange smell in the top floor rooms, we couldn't work out what it was but we soon got used to it. Chocolate parfait in the orangery was a disappointment. It was just like an over priced choc ice. It might have been good to advertise the local highlights for tourists. For example, the sculpture trail could have been advertised as within walking distance as we left The Speech House and drove to the trail walking site, only to realise that part of the walk actually passed The Speech House so we could have walked from there instead!

The hotel was genuinely dog-friendly rather than just dog-accommodating and the staff were attentive and very friendly. The room was well appointed and size-wise good for a solo traveller (with dog). There were plenty of places to exercise my dog for toilet breaks and a lovely field at the back which we would have enjoyed if the weather hadn't been quite so wet. I would definitely stay at Speech House again and recommend it to friends travelling to the area.

For me, the room was a little too warm and the wifi/mobile reception was very patchy outside of the main building, but both aspects were manageable for a short stay.

The property was gorgeous and had so much character. We stayed in the courtyard room as was travelling with our dog. Our beds and room were comfortable, clean light and perfect for what we needed. The staff were so friendly welcoming and helpful. We had an evening dinner in the restaurant overlooking the garden which was lovely. Breakfast was fabulous also.

I honestly could not fault it. I only wish we could have stayed longer. I wasn’t too familiar with the area but a short drive from attractions.

The food was excellent, so we took all our meals in the orangery. Speech House was well located for our walking holiday, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Our attic bedrooms were spacious and well furnished, and the beds very found to be comfortable. and of a generous size.

The facilities are somewhat limited at this hotel., so in bad weather there would be little to do in the hotel itself, although there is a good bar and two choices of eating venues. The floorboards in the attic were somewhat creaky, with the sound transferring to adjacent rooms, which is not a problem unless your neighbour has to get up very early in the morning, which is what happened to me on one occasion.
