The location is brilliant. Close to the town centre yet only a few steps from the vast expanse of the water meadows. Being common land the meadows are open to all. Ideal for walks, with or without dogs. Dogs are welcomed in all areas of the hotel apart from restaurant. Breakfast can be taken in the bar area if you want to keep your dog with you at breakfast. Staff have always been very helpful when I have my dog with me.

Had a minor issue with housekeeping in that there were no towels in room on arrival. Otherwise no problems. I have stayed here on numerous occasions and this is the first time I've had an issue.

The hotel is in a lovely riverside location within walking distance of the town. Our superior room was large and comfortable. The staff were very cheerful, knowledgeable and helpful. The breakfast was excellent.

The stairs were a bit of a trial with suitcases and also after we'd walked 12 miles of the beautiful Suffolk Wool Towns trail each day! Our room 28 could be noisy with the window open when warm as it overlooked a boiler room. The fire alarm going off at 3am in the morning was also something we could have done without!!

The room was a good size, bright, with windows on two sides and a view over the mill water outlet into the mill stream. The furniture was highly suitable for a couple with two suitcases. It was not quite as sumptuous as the furniture in the smaller rooms on the higher floor, but comfortable and just right for our needs. The supplies of coffee and tea were generous and the shower gels helpful. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The staff we encountered were very polite and helpful, though it was difficult to get attention at the bar with only one person covering many areas.

I think the bathroom window needs a curtain of some kind. The slightly frosted glass does not give much privacy, especially when sitting in full sunlight!

Excellent value, location, staff (exceptionally helpful), food was lovely. Size, easy to recommend knowing it may not mean it is full next time - loads of rooms, so easy recommendation... Will be staying again when in the area and passed details to friends/associates who live locally.

No lift and on 2nd floor and can hardly walk, staff could not hep enough... surprised to find they don't know about the local area, and had to check where it was (Newtown 15 mins away) and the reason I stayed in the area. So they could be missing a trick not marketing themselves and other local businesses as there could be reciprocal trade in the area....

We have been to this charming old characterful hotel many years ago and love the history and quirkiness of The Mill

Far too many dogs allowed and we were not happy to find dogs sprawling out on the settee’s and cushions in the terrace bar and we as paying guests didn’t even have chance to relax on the chairs after a long day travelling and found the presence of so many dogs and their owners (who are so oblivious and inconsiderate to other non-dog lovers comfort. Too many dogs and self obsessed owners of dogs taking over the public areas for our liking .

The check-in staff were very friendly and welcoming. My room was on the top floor. It was very comfortable and clean. I had a meal, I ordered the hake and that was very nice. It was a great location for work too and I liked the views from my room.

When I went for dinner in the bar area at 6pm, we moved from the far end as it was very cold so we moved to the sofa by the fire and my colleague and I asked for the fire to be lit but the girl was quite rude. She made us feel like we were putting her out which was a shame. I overheard her then saying she wouldn't light the other fire at the far end at 8.30pm as it was too late?? My shower was very disappointing. Room 22. It was very weak with no power at all.

Nice location, friendly staff

Since the hotel got taken over a few years ago the cleanliness has deteriorated - clean superficially for the most part but things like bathrooms need a really good deep clean or refurb as all the seals are consistently mouldy or dirty, the fans are dusty, dirty windows etc. Breakfast hit or miss depending what time you attend. It is not so bad that we wouldn’t stay again but it’s a shame as this could really be a 5 start hotel with some improvements.

My room had a pleasant view across a meadow, helping to make it a nice restful place. I was glad that the restaurant was open on a Sunday night, because it was a stormy day and would not have been pleasant to go out to find somewhere to eat.

I have marked the Mill Hotel down for cleanliness because the shelf top (desk/dressing table/holding the tea & coffee etc) was sticky and still had some liquid that must have been spilt by the previous occupant. So the cleaning had not been thorough - perhaps the surface had been wiped but that spread stickiness across the whole area. I didn't use it so as to avoid spoiling my things. Apart from that, the room was good. Perhaps I will mention that the pillows were quite hard.

Bedroom and views were gorgeous. Seating areas outside and in the bar wonderful Staff were exceptional

Coffee at breakfast was poor, those old fashioned flasks don't cut the mustard in today's climate of coffee quality and choice. The eggs at breakfast were either scrambled and not fresh or were bespoke ordered poached or fried and arrived hard. The scone we had the previous afternoon appeared to have been heated in a toaster or defrosted, it was tasty but had the consistency of toast,

The room was clean and very compact. Bed was comfortable and the view out the window was lovely. The breakfast was good too. Location was perfect for work I had the next day. I liked that there was a private car park too. I loved the mill in the middle of the restaurant!

The room was very small and it was difficult to manoeuvre around the bed and sit at the desk to do some work. The decor was quite tired. My room was next to a door in the corridor so there was quite a bit of noise from the door opening and closing when people were walking through.
