We are a family of 3 and we had the choice of 2 rooms. I chose the one with 2 double beds because I valued the comfort of my daughter. It turned out that the room was over the exhaust of the kitchen, which made some noise. My wife was worried that it would disturb our rest so we went to reception to see if they had a different room. They showed us the other room which has a bed sofa as second bed, which turned out to be very comfortable. The room was excellent with a beautiful view and very quiet. The restaurant serves very nice food although the menu is somewhat limited. We only stayed there 3 nights so I can't confirm this but I think they change the menu weekly so for longer stays it's probably fine. As a vegetarian my choices are always limited so I had a harder time choosing something from the menu than my wife and daughter. We didn't try breakfast because we don't eat much in the morning. We made our own breakfast instead. Everyone of the personnel was super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This hotel has spectacular views, situated on a hill top. It seems remote (which is a plus: it's super quiet!) but it's actually just a few minutes drive from the motorway and Exeter. A great location if you want to explore. The hotel itself is also a beautiful old building with loads of character.

The shower didn't drain properly sometimes and other times the smell in the bathroom was awful from the shower drain. I reported this and I'm sure it will be fixed now. We kept the bathroom door closed so it wasn't a problem unless you had to be in the bathroom.

Love the views, countryside, lovely gardens, the spaciousness, plenty of parking, peaceful relaxing atmosphere, the comfortable white cotton sheets bed, the bath in my room was lovely wide corner bath that was luxury to relax in, the bathroom was spacious and spotlessly clean, the desk for working at was good, the bed side lamps were quality. I had kippers and eggs for breakfast which was a wonderful portion with fresh wedge of lemon and pea curls made this really healthy and delicious. Very good value room price.

If there was quality coffee in the morning at breakfast and sour dough toast, I think my experience would have felt 10/10. Cheap sliced bread when there’s so much sour dough available now feels un necessary expense saving and the luxury of sourdough fresh bread would make the works of difference. Arabica bean dark roast coffee and french press at breakfast would make the world of difference to the coffee that tasted like instant from the machine. The evening meal prices are expensive for a two course meal for one person from the standard menu cost about £50 but that might just be what it’s like in UK now.

The location means you can be in Exeter in 25 minutes or pretty much anywhere on Dartmoor or the south coast in 30 minutes or so. It’s quiet and beautiful and is outstandingly dog friendly. The staff are unfailing friendly and really add to the enjoyment of the stay.

We had some of the rooms they keep for people with dogs. Even taking that into account they lacked facilities - like a fridge - and were a little bit “tired”. Totally clean but maybe in need of a refurbishment. The general property on the inside also has a bit of ‘faded grandeur’ to it.

What a lovely setting. We were only there for 1 night and arrived in the dark, but the next morning we saw how beautiful it all was. Also, what stood out for us was the friendliness of all the staff. They created a relaxed and really friendly place to stay. In addition, the beds were so very comfortable. We have had a stressful and tired time since Christmas and the beds! Were absolutely wonderful. Thank you.

We used our satnav to get there which was a mistake - Devon farm tracks showing up as roads. The way the hotel directs you is excellent and 10 mins from Exeter. Definitely use their instructions!

Love this hotel. Great value for a stop over to visit our daughter. Great that it's dog friendly, too. Good location for Exeter, beaches at Exmouth, Dawlish and Teignmouth. Forest walks to discover next time. Friendly welcoming staff. Breakfast was additional cost, but that gave us the flexibility if we'd wanted to get out early and eat elsewhere. On this occasion we paid for breakfast which was excellent, with cereals, fruit, juice, tea/coffee and a range of cooked options.

Had to book with Booking.com as booking direct with the hotel couldn't match the price. Website was ambiguous about charge for the dog. We were happy to pay the £15 for our dog's stay.

Didn’t sample main breakfast - so can’t comment. However the porridge and blueberries were excellent as was the evening meal. Hotel itself is a bit tired looking but given the 3 star rating, excellent room rate, cleanliness and very comfortable seating in all the main areas we had no complaints whatsoever. All the staff that we interacted with were very helpful and friendly. The location was perfect for a getaway. And to top it all we found our way to the Belvadere for amazing views of the surrounding area.

Nothing. All fine.

We stayed for two nights and it could not have been better. The location was beautiful, the staff amazing, the room was super and the food was great. All of the staff were friendly and attentive, although very busy. We hadn't planned to stay for dinner but we did on the first night - then again on the second night as it was so good. After a half day in Exeter we stayed in the comfy lounge reading our books and had a walk around the grounds. It was just so relaxed and informal but every detail was taken care of. On arrival there was a letter in our room advising us of a function on our second night. We really appreciated that notice, although it caused no inconvenience whatsoever. Would highly recommend the hotel. If it wasn't 8 hours away from our home we'd become regular visitors. Thank you to the team for a great stay.

Nothing - it was perfect.

Always love this Hotel and will definitely be back. It has a grand feel about it and even the smallest rooms are spacious. Tasty food. Really comfy bed!

The WiFi didn't load up in our room (25) and my boyfriend noted the shower pressure wasn't great. I am intolerant to onions and it was great the server checked with the kitchen if a couple of dishes I was looking at had onions in, but would have been better if he'd suggested some alternatives.

Location was stunning, with great views and walks nearby. Excellent value, comfortable room. Bar food was very good. Very friendly and welcoming staff.

WiFi was difficult to connect to and dropped out every few minutes. Eventually we couldn't connect at all. The soundproofing between guest rooms is almost nonexistent. We could hear every word of our neighbours conversation.
