Staff were exceptional both when we arrived and at breakfast/check out. We arrived in the evening and had booked a twin room but the room reserved for us was a double and the hotel was full. As we were 2 blokes traveling together to go to Cadwell Park we really needed the twin. It was no problem at all for the staff to reconfigure the room and even gave us a pint each to drink in the bar whilst it was being done. A potential issue handled exceptionally well and in a friendly and professional manner. Well done Jenny and the team

Lovely welcoming feel to the property. Great sized rooms, and the food is excellent.

As we were leaving our room to checkout, housekeeping were obviously getting ready to clean the rooms and change the bed linen etc. The clean bed linen was on the floor across the corridor. Thus struck me as not being great. We were able to step over the clean pillowcases etc, and lift our cases over them, but some people may not. Also, the corridor is a thoroughfare that people walk through with outdoor shoes on. I really don’t think that clean bedding should be on the floor. It could get visibly dirty, and it really isn’t hygienic. Also. We went to the desk to checkout, and the lady who was sat at the front desk didn’t look up, or acknowledge that we were even there. The lady from the desk at the back of reception had to get up and sort us out. Unnecessary, I thought.

Our superior family room (on the second and third nights) was large, quiet and very comfortable. The weather was warm, but an electric fan was provided so that the room temperature was comfortable. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel, and these were good. I appreciated the small courtyard terrace of the restaurant on a warm evening. Horncastle is a pleasant small town with the shops, restaurants and cafés you might require for a short stay. The hotel has adequate parking.

I booked a classic twin room (and kept my booking confirmation email, thank goodness!) and also emailed the hotel the evening before arrival to request a quiet twin room. When we arrived, we were given a room with one double bed at the front of the hotel, on a main road with loud traffic noise, not compatible with the hotels's 4* rating in my opinion. The weather was hot so the window was open. There was a pub with live music a few doors away. I stated immediately that this was unsatisfactory. Unfortunately there was no suitable alternative available for that night. We were moved to a superior family room for our second and third nights. But we had the inconvenience of unpacking and re-packing our luggage before an important family occasion.

Warm friendly welcome at the reception, the lady who checked us in was very helpful enthusiastic and happy. Lovely well furnished room. High quality bedding and soft cushions. Thought the extras such fan, hairdryer, iron etc was a nice touch. The bathroom was spotless and had a luxury feel. Nice sized TV with freeview

Had an issue accessing the TV channel guide. One side of the bed didn't have any plugs so had to trail the cable over the bed from the opposite side. Doors from other guests rooms were quite noisy at times. .

The hotel is outstanding, I booked online and had never stayed in the area before so was unsure what to expect. It totally exceeded any expectations I had. The hotel had a wedding on, however the staff continued to deliver a high standard of service to those who were not part of the wedding, making every guest feel welcomed. Food was stunning. The staff were amazing and I would like to thank all of them for making our stay a memorable one. I will certainly want to revisit next year. A very big thank you!! X

With the hotel nothing at all. However I did hear another guest moaning the service was slow waiting for their evening meal, I can assure you all, she was waiting no longer than 10 minutes. I feel some people are not happy unless they complain! 🙄.

Lovely historic listed hotel, very peaceful location. very well maintained and lovely room. Exceptional staff, always facilitated and clearly worked well as a team both as a group and toward customer focus. The chef, when we stayed, was clearly very talented. The menu was well thought out and the food was beautiful.

Horncastle is a very historic town but, like many places is suffering and it's a real shame. Still a good large antique shop and interestingly a new venture going down memory lane. Lovely part of the world that deserves more visitors!

The staff were all delightful , especially the receptionist who is a great credit to the hotel . The evening meal was spot on and a very reasonable price .

As other reviews have mentioned the sound proofing is an issue . I think this is an understatement….. walking , talking , snoring can all be clearly heard as well as happy children jumping around the room above ( nice they are happy , but unfortunate to put a family of 4 in a room above a ground floor room ) I did ask the receptionist if we stayed again do they have any better sound proofed rooms - unfortunately not , so I will book a second floor room so at least the noise could be limited .

I’ve stayed a few times & that’s why I went back as I love staying there,it’s clean comfortable & spacious & the staff are lovely & friendly also it’s central to the town

Only a couple of small things,when you ‘go green’& put the sign out so there’s no cleaning done or beds made for up to three days they don’t come in & replace cups tea/coffee & milk so you have to ask & there wasn’t a good supply to take up again just bits & bobs & I felt uncomfortable asking!also my room was very clean but the shower curtain was discoloured & a little mould at the bottom but neither put me off & im looking forward to going back!

Room was clean and nicely decorated with small welcoming touches such as a magazine and book from a local author. Great to have two hot chocolate sachets too. Really liked the small bathroom lights in the sink base cupboard’s, ideal for nighttime use. Curtains were heavy and well made.

Service was a little slow at breakfast, had to remind staff about serving pot of tea and waited a while for cooked breakfast.It was busy though and breakfast was hot and cooked well when it arrived.

Ambience, decor and interior design. Very comfortable, spotlessly clean rooms, very pleasant helpful staff. Great location for us.

Disappointed with dinner. Waitress greeted us with a very large list of dishes not available. I suggested it would be quicker to tell us what was available! Four off the starter selection, three from main course, and only three left on dessert section. We had booked the table for 7.30pm not very late. When our main courses arrived the green vegetables were practically raw, they didn’t even register on the Al Dente scale. Disappointing.
