We chose the hotel as a place to stop off on our way north but what a find! It is within easy access of the motorway and a few minutes out of Kendall and is a charming old house - very well appointed and dog friendly! The bedrooms we had were gorgeous - super comfy beds and beautiful furnishings, and we got a lovely welcome pack for the dog which was a very nice touch! We had dinner when we arrived which was superb - wonderfully cooked food and lots of it! We sat in the bar afterwards till late and just enjoyed the ambiance of the place. The staff were great - friendly and helpful - we'll definitely be back!
The top floor rooms have a tight staircase going up which would be a challenge for anyone with mobility problems, but other than that, we thought it was great - we loved it.

The hotel was very sweet and in a really convenient location. It is next to a busy roundabout and road, but I couldn't hear it at all from the room and I had a fabulous sleep. The check in was very easy and staff helpful. Opposite the hotel is a fabulous collection of artisan producers, with a farmshop and cafe, a local bakery famed for its ginger inspired cakes, a wonderful bakery selling a wide variety of loaves, buns and goodies and tucked away at the back is an Italian coffee take away, which just sells take away coffee and it was amazing! It was called Rinaldos and I recommend grabbing a Piccolo coffee whilst trying the fare of the other merchants :)

We Loved the Warm Welcome and the Pleasant and Courteous Staff, Stunning Room all Spotless and Exceptionally Clean and Well Presented, Very Warm and Comfortable we had a Great Nights Sleep. The Lovely Breakfast was Delicious, we had Cereal, Toast and Coffee, Then enjoyed a Lovely Full English Breakfast cooked fresh and piping hot from The Gateway Chef and serve by a Lovely Staff Member This Place deserves a Full.5 Stars 🌟 Thank You for a Very Pleasant Stay
We Loved Everything about THE GATEWAY only 2 very little gripes, the bathroom sink drain was slow at draining and the Green Glow of the Fire System illuminated the room but apart from that we had a Luxurious Nights Stay Thank You.

Lovely welcome from Gaynor to book us in, dog welcome too. Dinner was a beautiful roast beef, absolutely gorgeous, and we were served by a very friendly and courteous Ionela. Room was warm and clean, even a welcome pack for the dog! The atmosphere was very nice and a cosy fire to sit round created a nice relaxing end to the evening in the bar. The great food continued in the morning with a superb full English breakfast with the best sausages and bacon I've tasted since so long I've forgotten. We both commented on how good the quality was. Check out was 11am so plenty of time to get ready without rushing. Very happy with our stay.
It was not the hotels fault, but my partner has recently had a hip replacement and our room was up 2 flights of stairs, first flight no problem, but the second set is quite narrow and is one that has some winding stairs on it, which was quite a struggle for my partner. Gaynor had a look to see if another room was available lower down but there wasn't. I should have said when booking my partner was not very mobile yet, so if anyone struggles with narrow winding steps, ask for a room not at the top. It didn't spoil the stay.

Great room with everything you'd need for a great stay. It had a huge bathroom with both a large bath and separate shower which was great. The only thing that let it down on the day we were staying was that the hot water was playing up. The bed was bigger and really comfortable. We both had a great night's sleep. The food in the hotel was excellent. We didn't have the breakfast so can't comment on that. All in all a great stay.
The only thing that let it down on the day we were there was the hot water was playing up. I'm guessing it was an isolated incident. It was just unfortunate that it happened on the day we stayed.

The Gateway is beautifully decorated and furnished. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable, good bed and enough space for us and two dogs. Great breakfast. Very good evening meals in the pub. Very dog friendly.
Nothing to dislike. It is close to a busy road and stairs up to second floor are steep ( a good workout) but if you are not very mobile tell them in advance so you are put on the first floor.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was lovely but a bit tired round the edges. Excellent for bringing the dog. The food was very good indeed. The only reason I did not give it 100 per cent was the huge pot holes as you drive in. If we had driven in at night time, I'd have been buying new tyres. Also, there is no heating. I understand it's still summer. But my husband was so cold, plus its so it was hard to get dry after non-stop 🌧. Maybe they had a boot room. 👢? We should have asked. All in all. Not a bad stay.
Pot holes. No heating.

local
delux room just had two single beds pushed together and so wasnt right. might have been a double bed. For two working male staff that just didnt work well. I assumed delux meant space and two single beds meant separte beds. when asked at breakfast on the first day we had a little issue on customer service. Think the person seems fed up and on autopilot. So its assumed your having a full cooked breakfast, if you change it then your get a little attitude. Breakfast was good but second day wasnt ? suspect different cook maybe

We had a warm welcome. Beautiful views Lovely complimentary toiletry products. Nice breakfast.
Previous guests sanitary towels left in the toilet bin. Staff were very apologetic when I let them know. There was a cut off time for ordering the evening meal which would have been helpful if front of house staff had warned us about. Appreciate the chef going out their way to make us a meal in the end (albeit over cooked)

The family room (room 9) was superb - two rooms joined together with bunk beds in one and double in the other. Great for us as a family of 3 plus dog. Staff were really friendly and evening meal was delicious. Great views from our room. Dog welcome pack was a nice touch.
For the price could have included the continental breakfast which we paid extra for. The breakfast selection wasn't vast and could have done with some pastries. However, this would not detract from us staying here again. 100% recommend.
