Clean and comfortable room, good location, and very dog friendly. Staff were all friendly, a slight problem with my sink that was sorted before I'd even got back from a morning walk. Delicious breakfast.

Nothing major just some minor niggles: when checking in I wasn't given much information (ie breakfast details, check out times, where milk/water was for the room (in a corridor fridge FYI)) Milk in corridor fridge had gone off. The main door to the hotel was propped open all the time and room door didn't have an internal lock so could be opened from outside, although I felt completely safe there, being a solo traveller this could put you on edge. Food in restaurant was quite expensive for average food.

We stayed in room 4 which was lovely and the bed was very comfortable. Nice hot shower after a long walk, tea and coffee choice was limited but fresh milk was available from a fridge along the corridor. Staff were very attentive for our evening meal but the food, whilst nice, was a bit overpriced for the quantity served. There was a nice atmosphere in the bar and good selection of drinks available.

There was a mess up with the booking through Booking.com - we booked 2 nights but turned out there is a system fault and only one night was available. We were told the day before so it was not unexpected. We booked in for breakfast the evening before but breakfast was rather disappointing. Continental breakfast was one croissant each plus bread and jam selection. Also yoghurt and granola was available. None of this was ideal for my wife who has gluten intolerance. When I asked about breakfast on checking out I was told they used to employ a chef but people often skipped breakfast so they scaled it down. If not employing a chef I think it would be better to offer boiled eggs and ham, something quite simple.

Staff were very welcoming on arrival, very smooth check in and escorted us to our room. The food was very tasty & there was a good selection of ales & beers. The room was very clean £ the bed was very comfortable. Free parking is always appreciated & well lit up with censor lights. Overall a really enjoyable stay. Ideal for the walking community and very dog friendly.

The location is a little remote if you're not used to small country lanes but that was an advantage with the low noise levels from the infrequent traffic.

Lovely charming pub and hotel in a beautiful spot. We stayed one night on our way up to Scotland. Michael made us very welcome and was super helpful, all staff were lovely. Some nice little walks from the property. The food was delicious and the restaurant and bar area was beautifully done. Our room was very comfy and cosy, very clean and nicely done. Fresh water and milk on site was a nice touch. Parking on site was fine, gets very busy but staff will do their best to direct you.

Nothing to dislike - great place, lovely location, wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

It was a lovely pub with a warm welcoming atmosphere and a good selection of beers and Gin. The bed was comfy and the food was very good. We ate there 2 nights. It’s a small but perfectly formed menu and both meals were delicious. The staff were great, very helpful and friendly as were the locals we chatted to over our drink.

Just small things really. The room was clean but there were loads of cobwebs around the ceiling. There was no plug for the sink and the shower door would have been better sliding the other way so you didn’t have to squish round the sink. The only other thing is having to go outside to get to the bedrooms, not great when it’s lashing down, but it didn’t spoil the stay

Friendly and welcoming staff who greeted us and our dogs, barstaff were helpful when we needed water for our room and breakfast team produced a delicious continental breakfast of hot drinks, fruit juice, toast, pastries and yoghurt/muesli due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ which meant cooked breakfast wasn’t available.

Absence of cooked breakfast due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ - based on previous visits we know this is delicious!

The management had just changed and new owners had painted and refurbished the downstairs area, with plans to do more with the rest of the hotel. Our room was lovely- the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious- all homemade and if fantastic quality. Will hopefully be returning again soon!

Some bits of the room needed a little updating but it didn’t affect our stay and was understandable given the new takeover.

A very warm welcome on arrival and this warm welcoming stayed throughout the four days of the trip. Easy access to the room which was cosy and the bathroom was very clean, the shower setting worked well. black out curtains where another bonus to the room. All the staff from morning to evening where polite and friendly, enjoyed the conversation with bar staff and kitchen staff about the local area. Internet connect worked well, specially for the seclusion of the pub. Three miles from Kendal which is a easy and simple drive to the local town.

Only a small TV in the bedroom but plenty of channels and a larger TV might detract from the room itself.

Food, accommodation, staff, chef, location, menu, price - all made a lovely welcome and stay. Plenty tables outside to enjoy birdsong and a pint or warming coffee. Breakfast is NO LONGER included in the price (march2025), however for £15 we were absolutely delighted with the choices and the beautiful food presented every meal upon the plate.

Unclear that breakfasts was no longer included in the price.

Lovely place and the food was excellent. I have only marked it down as 'Good' for comfort and not outstanding, due to the bed was too soft for us and also it was 2 three quarter mattresses pushed together so there was a large void in the middle of the bed when you tried to cosy up. The room was lovely, nice and warm once we turned the radiator on - we arrived following on from the snow fall, there was still snow and ice on the ground. We were taken to our room by the young lady who had advised us they had given us a complimentary room upgrade to a king size bed, this was a lovely surprise. However, when she opened our bedroom door she advised us that the heating wasn't working in the bedroom, there was a small fan heater to use if we wanted and we could open the window if we wished 🤣, you're having a laugh aren't you when it's -3 outside and the windows are single glazed. Unfortunately our upgraded room ensuite did not have a bath in it as opposed to the one we had chosen and was rather bijou in size. We settled in and noticed the radiator valve was turned down, so we turned it up, alongside of using the fan heater and it was lovely and warm and toastie. When we went down into the pub for an evening meal the gentleman behind the bar advised us of what we had already found out, the radiator in the room was actually working and just needed the thermostat valve turning up. All the staff we very polite and helpful, the pub food was lovely and piping hot.

Small ensuite, the position of the wash basin against the shower door opening was extremely close making access difficult for the larger framed person. The bed was too soft and was made up of 2 individual mattresses pushed together which left a huge void in the middle of the bed making it uncomfortable when snuggling up.
