Nice little hotel in good location. Very small but comfortable bed. I think the seven cushions on our bed were rather unnecessary, especially as they took up a full side of the small wardrobe to store. I don't like cushions on beds, especially in a hotel - do you wash the covers between guests - I don't think so. The cover on the bed also hadn't been changed from previous guests. Please hotels only put items in a bedroom that are changed each time. Good breakfast across the road.

Ideal location for our plans and the budget room was all that we required as a couple. Clean room and friendly staff. If you desire a more upmarket room then I suggest you ignore the minimal payment options.

Our room window looked directly onto a school playground, I imagine if it wasn't half-term it may have been noisy in the morning. I would avoid this room if possible during term times if you want a relaxing start to your day. The carpet looked in need of more than a vacuuming and the gloss work was looking tired. The fire doors were showing signs of handprint staining and also needed a little freshen up with paint. Very picky comments but if it isn't said it may never change and the hotel is too nice to let standards slip.

The property was clean, well presented and exactly what we expected. We booked a budget room for the night knowing we wouldn’t be there to long and just need somewhere to stay. The room Was large and spacious and had all the amenities we needed. The shower was exceptional. Very powerful. Prior to arriving at the hotel we messaged seeing if the rooms had irons as we wouldn’t see this listed. They replied within 5 minutes as advised this would be waiting in our room for when we arrived, and it was! The staff were so warming and welcoming. Informed us of the area and restaurants in the sister hotel across the room.

Having only spent the evening there, we wouldn’t find any faults.

Good breakfast with many options to choose from. The space where breakfast was served was very nice. Also the time for breakfast was very practical, you can sleep in if you like. The hotel in general was very comfortable and pleasant, as was the staff. It is very useful that they have an option of guarding your luggage after the check-out. One of the best thing was, the location close to a center of local community and the public transport (including the tourist tours).

The lift was out of service for a while, but they carried the luggage and other stuff if needed.

Rooms are good size and with a pleasant decor, so are the bathrooms, good shower and attachment. Very good location. Generally they make an effort with the decor all round, with an arty bend, even in the lift. Nice big windows. Small bottles of water and biscuits supplied. Large towels.

The mattress was too soft/bumpy. Total lack of hooks and shelves in the bathroom (there is a drawer but that's not convenient) - even a small shelf by the sink / basin would help. My main 'minus' is the very bright ceiling spotlights in the room - lots of them and no dimmer! There was no other lighting option like wall lamps / downlighting, the bedside lamps are really tiny and only for use during the night. TV had no option of using iplayer / apps without already having an account with Google.

Well appointed and very clean. The reception staff was very efficient and effective. The Hotel is very wll situated for the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington High Street and the Museums. Although breakfast is not available onsite, there is a local allied alternative and for those of a more adventurous nature, plenty of diverse eateries within easy walking distance, particularly around South Kensington tube station. What's not to like about the Gainsborough Hotel? - we will be back when next in London!!

The size of the shower in our room was smaller than average!

Excellent location in South Kensington for visiting The Royal Albert Hall and Kensington Palace. Close to South Kensington tube, and Natural History Museum. Lots of eateries close by or 5 mins away on Gloucester Road. Our room was 304 which for an over night stop was brilliant with a kettle for a brew, and biscuits too. A window that opened plus brilliant Air Conditioning. Reception gave us water and there was more water in our room.

En suite was rather tiny, but it had everything needed in respect of toiletries.

The hotel is in a great location. It was clean and comfortable and the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We were in a room above the main doors so I was expecting it to be noisy but although we could hear the street noise, it didn’t disturb us at all.

The hotel is in an old building so it’s a bit creaky but I guess that adds to the charm.

The staff was extremely helpful and nice. They moved us to adifferent room upon our request. They were kind all the time. The location is great.

The first room we had was in a corridir with a bad smell. However, upon our request they moved us to a different room that did not have this problem One other thing: a desk in the room could be helpful.

The check in was seamless and easy and the on-duty staff were always pleasant and helpful. Our room was spacious and clean and appeared to have been renovated in the recent past as the finishes were modern. There were a few stains on the carpet but nothing offensive. Our bed, bedding and pillows were comfortable. The bedside lamps and ceiling light control from the bedside panel was a bonus. The bathroom was an adequate size and was also kept clean by the staff. The midday checkout (instead of the usual 10am) was really helpful. The location is excellent - a 5 minute walk to South Kensington station, nearby restaurants and museums.

The main issue we experienced was the water pressure in the building. If we showered at peak times the water would sometimes pause for a few seconds mid-shower before resuming again. Outside of peak times we experienced no water pressure issues. A few more hangers in the cupboard would have been helpful as we were staying for 5 nights and had more clothing to hang.
