The room on the ground floor we booked happened to be quite smelly. It's an old building, it could have been a smoking room earlier and that room probably has not been renovated for a long time (although I have to say that the bathroom for that room was OK and bed linen and towels were clean). The staff lady was very kind and offered another room, which we gladly took. That was a much cleaner room, newer carpets, better experience. Generally it's a good value for money option, but it might depend on the room you take.

Room was very spacious, very clean, beds very comfortable & ensuite bathroom was a bonus as it stated it had a private bathroom. Nice touch having toiletries provided. Tea & coffee facilities in the room as well. Our stay was very quiet in the main, hotel is situated back from the road. This hotel is definitely worth the money. Nice touch having the history of the building on an A4 sheet.

Maybe put a dampener on the middle entrance door as when people go in and out it slams. As no breakfast or meals are provided maybe put a list of local restaurants/ take aways for your residents.

The house is like something from 'The Adams Family' and set in beautiful grounds. Really breathtaking historic interior, (we have never stayed in such a grand house before!) albeit a little tired decor wise and fairly basic en-suite facilities. We didn't know the area at all, but there are some stunning places to visit including the astonishing World Heritage site New Lanark in easy travelling distances. We couldn't understand how it was so cheap until we got there and discovered it was room only! (Several basic cafe / fast food restaurants within a short drive)

More modern facilities, but that would almost certainly double the cost! Even a simple continental breakfast provision would be a wonderful addition to the stay.

Bonkle house is a beautiful victorian mansion with all the period features remaining. It could be a 4star B&B if a little money was to be spent. But at around £55.00 per night for 2 people absolutely fantastic.

The noise from other guests. The doors are very heavy and have door closures fitted for fire safety, so all you have to do is gently close the door, but no they open them up and let them go. Bang.

Great comfort for good value.

This historic property has an exceptional sense of grandeur about it - it's like staying in a stately home, the rooms are enormous if somewhat tired decor. It's a bit weird staying in a room only place - we've always had breakfast in other places we've stayed, but this is not an option, but that does make this place cheaper. There were several cafes and takeaways just down the road so getting food wasn't really a problem. We stayed here to be close to West Calder Dog's Trust to visit our new pup, but discovered some exquisite towns and countryside around Lanarkshire that we never knew about and would heartily recommend

Strange reception - basically handed your key and given a card with emergency contact numbers on it and left to your own devices. The caretakers live in a flat on site so you could frequently smell cooking smells from their kitchen which was doubly odd given the room only policy!

The house lady Jagdish was very nice and even went out of her way to please our demands. It was very clean when we arrived and she cleaned our room everyday ! The triple room was big, impressive for the price.

You should put an ashtray outside, there's a lot of cigarette butts on the ground. 1 butt pollutes 250 gallons of water

This was the highlight of our stay. The house is absolutely beautiful, especially if you appreciate the charm of a historic property. The staff were wonderful, and everything was made easy for us by the lady at the reception. The room was a dream, with very comfortable beds, a lovely bathroom, and plenty of parking space. Overall, a truly beautiful hotel. Highly recommended!

The room was really spacious with an en-suit bathroom. It was a very quiet location and plenty of parking. The room was cleaned daily and the host couldn't have done enough for you.

The only small issue was the WiFi was very poor 4Mb but have to expect this with a rural property.
