Stepping into a castle of several hundred years. Being greeted with the friendliest welcome outside when we parked the car. Being so few rooms the management had time for every single guest. Having a drink together with strangers in the evening, turning out to be a really nice gathering where we got to know each other over a glass. Clean rooms. Everything was thought if, like they themselves came from high quality and knew exactly what to offer. The breakfast was amazing. Local food. Fresh flowers on the table. The atmosphere was to feel and touch. The management was amazing. ❤️

Absolutely nothing to complain about.

The location was convenient for us, we were hiking nearby mountains in the Highlands and visiting Oban. The breakfasts were a highlight, beautiful, delicious, authentic, and with several local ingredients. Multiple options for dietary restrictions. The castle has a lot of character, from the family portraits and taxidermy of the great hall to the skeleton keys for the rooms to the secret passages.

I struggle to even find one part of our stay that wasn’t to our liking. The property was easy to find with our rental car. We loved that the castle was well-preserved but modernized. We loved the staff, they were a highlight. They made the castle feel like a home. The great hall was beautiful and authentic feeling, and the Campbell family history was fascinating, right down to Black Duncan’s legacy and the bottleneck dungeon below.

Absolutely amazing. The most exceptional accommodation, a genuine Castle full of history, antiques and everything is of the highest quality and standard. So grateful for the opportunity to stay in this wonderful place and the Managers , Patrick & Cecelia were amazing and made us feel so special. Everything is impeccable, service, cleanliness, comfortable bedding, beautiful linen and textiles. The breakfast was fabulous, we appreciated the introduction, tour and history briefing upon arrival and truly enjoyed the great hall and indulging in a tipple in the evening at the bar with Patrick. We will always remember our stay here. Magical

Nothing. This is an amazing place to stay.

Patrick the host and his wife Cecilia were incredible. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. We received a very warm welcome, a history of the castle and help with the bags. The accommodation is fantastic. A wonderful, spacious bedroom, bathroom and the communal dining / seating and bar area. The breakfast in the morning was excellent of very high quality ingredients and locally produced meat products. Patrick and Cecilia provide superb customer service as it should be. A skill and art that is sadly lacking in so many settings. 10/10

A stay at Barcaldine Castle is a memorable experience. My thanks to all who work there for making it so. It is a real West Highland clan castle dating back centuries and it brings the turbulent history of those times to life. I found everything at hand for a very enjoyable stay - a comfortable bed, efficient shower, decent wi-fi speed and an excellent breakfast with good food and plenty of choice. The steep spiral staircase is what you would expect in a castle like this but effective handrails make all rooms accessible, even for those of us whose balance is not what it was.

All good.

From the moment we arrived at this dreamy 17th century château, our hosts Patrick and Cecilia gave us an extremely warm and friendly welcome. They do a remarkable job of making this château a place of great luxury. There are never any problems for Patrick 🥰. Everything here is luxury, calm and voluptuous. The bedroom and great room are decorated with exquisite, authentic taste. The breakfast is delicious and very copious. In a word, we loved staying at Barcaldine Castle. A timeless place to visit Absolutely

We arrived in a taxi and had no other transportation. The website said that a nearby village (a half mile away) had pubs and food. We expected to walk there for dinner. However, we learned that everything in the village was closed on a Sunday and the next day as well. The hotel is quite a way out of town and taxis are hard to come by especially on a stormy Sunday. We found the staff to be incredibly thoughtful and kind and the place is baronial indeed. But no one should stay there without a car (or a well-stocked picnic hamper).

Without access to a car, this is a difficult hotel to stay in.

We loved everything about our stay here from the staff, the location, the castle history and the exceptional manager, Simon. Breakfast provided in the Great Hall every morning was delicious from continental offerings to individual selections. Of course it helped that Simon is also a chef! We can't say enough about him - from helping us bring our bags up the castle spiral stairs (no elevator...it's a 17th century castle))...to recommendations on points of interest in Oban which is a 20 minute drive from the castle. We loved the little cafe in Benderloch for our afternoon tea and scones only a 5 minutes drive. If you love history, the Scotland hills and lochs, and an intimate experience this is the place to go.

Everything was perfect.

The atmosphere of the place is amazing and the breakfast was really tasty. The staff was incredible and made us feel very welcome. From the little tour of the castle on arrival all the way to the unprompted offer to take a picture of us in front of the castle when we checked out. We had dinner at a nearby family restaurant followed by a lovely evening at the bar in the castle. We stayed in the Breadalbane room and the view out the window was out of this world (see pictures).

There was nothing to dislike.

We loved this location in the countryside near Oban. Our room was wonderful and exactly as one would expect when staying in a castle - yet the amenities (modern shower/washroom, in-room beverages and snacks, ...) made it that much more enjoyable. Alanna and Simon were wonderful hosts. Breakfasts were outstanding! We thoroughly enjoyed the common areas and met several friendly fellow travelers while relaxing. Oban, "Gateway to the Isles," is very accessible by car, should you want to explore there or hop onto a ferry for island tours (as we did). We wanted to stay in a castle during our weeks in Scotland, and could not have made a better choice.
