This is a grand Old Dame of a hotel. It has beautiful original features. The ceilings in the bar and dining room are spectacular, the staircase is glorious. It is extremely affordable because it hasn’t been turned into a luxury boutique hotel. It is a little bit worn but that is part of its charm. If you want a polished hotel, go elsewhere. If you want an old, charming, well run hotel with the best view in town from the downstairs bar and a fabulous location, you’ll need to overlook some of her drawbacks. This a great base for exploring the area (Outer Hebrides) but it is not a well appointed upmarket hotel. Only book this hotel if you enjoy feeling like you are living in another era. The staff are incredibly polite and helpful and managed the unreasonable expectations of a couple of guests very well. I met a lot of returning guests while I was staying there who clearly understand the charm of this hotel. I will certainly return on my next trip to Scotland.

I liked everything.

After reading all the reviews on Tripadvisor we where feeling that we had booked the wrong hotel, Well how wrong can you be, from the friendly welcome we received to the lovely sea view room we had was absolutely brilliant, the breakfast was a buffet style with plenty of choice and a friendly ambiance, the breakfast room was spotless and friendly waiting staff who where always on hand to assist. The bar and barman Liam was always helpful and helped make our stay unforgettable. so the moral is don’t believe everything you read. this hotel really ticks all the boxes if you’re planning of going to the islands from the ferry port, I also would recommend room 17 which is where we stayed for 5 days.

If I did have to point out some negatives it would be that the corridors and room doors need updating,

Staff, great.. meals absolutely delicious. Location is perfect. It was very dog friendly but expensive

Very expensive at £10 per dog per night going up to £15 add to that £6 per night to park the car... a 5 nights add on £130... hotel very tired. I feel the dog owners will be paying to update the hotel.. you have to ask to get the room serviced. I was going to book for next year but decided against it I can get my dogs into other hotels in other parts of Scotland for £30 per stay

Lovely location, outlook onto the harbour, 10min slow saunter to the stores and main harbour area along the flat. Very attentive sociable staff. My companion injured herself whilst arriving at the hotel (nothing to do with the hotel at all), the receptionist Rhu flew into action with bandages etc and another member of staff drove us to the A&E, on our return to the hotel, staff kindly organised a meal for us (despite kitchens having closed)....Cannot thank them enough for their help.

Hotel building a bit tired and in need of redecoration and refurbishment but still a grand building. Room very comfortable with seaview. Staff more than make up for the less plush surroundings

I had a single room for one night and I was pleasantly surprised, the room was comfortable and a good size with everything I needed, I didnt eat in the hotel but had two pints in the bar, I would certainly use again if ever in the area.

Having to leave, I wish I could have stayed more than one night. My room was well decorated and nice furniture , some of the hotel is showing signs of its age which is to be expected due to its age but nothing detracted from my stay, the hotel offers excellent value for money.

The staff on the reception area were welcoming, friendly, professional. Unfortunately I was involved in an accident as I was leaving. The hotel staff immediately came to my aid, ambulance was summond right away, one female staff member, I think reception, held my broken leg and supported it with a pillow, therfore reducing the risk of further damage. When I was taken away by ambulance I had already been informed that my motorbike was secure in the car park, and that my bags were also secure in the hotel. That meant I did not have that to worry about. My friends who were due to catch the 10.30am ferry, were now running late, and as they were unsure of the Dock, they were guided by another of the staff who told them to follow him as he drove his car. Unbelievable customer service, my friends and I shall certainly return. On a foot note, I spent 4 weeks in hospital after major surgery to repair my leg and foot, no pun intended. It is now held together with 29 pins and a cage. Please convey my deepest thanks to your staff.

Was attending an event and location was what was needed. Staff went above and beyond for us over our entire stay nothing was too much for them. It makes such a difference. Stairs up to hotel were a challenge but staff made sure we were aware of accessibility so very helpful. Like the large windows at the front of hotel which gives access to sea view. Breakfast fine and we had dinner one evening and found that relaxing food good.

The staff were very helpful.

The hotel looked very "tired ". It could do with being refurbished or at least redecorated. The breakfast was good but lacked a few items to make it a full Scottish breakfast. The bar staff didn't know if they had Irish Whiskey and pointed to a bottle of Laphroaig. They had no Guinness either or bottle nor cans. We were lucky to get a parking spot as well. Immediately outside our room the hall light was broken.

A beautiful old building in a superb location that has sadly been a bit neglected. The upcoming renovation is very much needed for both staff and future visitors. Our rooms were clean, well presented, very spacious and well equipped

The front steps and entrance needs to be made better accessible for wheel chairs and the less able bodied. The lift is very small and equally challenging with buggy’s, luggage, wheelchairs etc. It would also be beneficial to have a choice of rooms with either a shower or a bath.

The staff were very attentive because there are stairs leading up to reception they are quick to tell you you can use a lift from car park level to get to reception if they see signs of disability

Something that can't be fixed I left at 4 in the morning to get there for 8 to get a car parking space as people were leaving after breakfast has half the space for half the rooms people who arrived later in the day had to park elsewhere but oban wasn't designed round everybody having a car being a victorian town the windows didn't realy open
