I would like to give a huge thank you to Brid and Stephano and all the other members of staff who went above and beyond to make my stay the best experience, unfortunately I had an ankle injury and I was looked after like a queen, change of room to lower floor, served tea and biscuits on return from hospital, ice packs were given to me to help with my injury, I was so lucky to have really lovely people to help me and I thank them so much, we will definitely be back to stay, I can't recommend this hotel highly enough, rooms large and spacious, comfy beds, excellent food, and the most fantastic sea views, absolutely wonderful with such lovely staff to go with it 😊

There was absolutely nothing i didn't like

The booking in was good, although we were advised to pay extra for car parking per night we were not aware of. The rooms had electrical sockets for use, but luckily I packed a plug for usb charging... good idea. The hospitality tray was welcome. The staff in reception, dining & breakfast area were very pleasant, Breed was exceptionally helpful. Young gentleman on reception very friendly and helpful. Food delicious and hot, although we were not booked in for dinner we were accommodated very quickly. I asked for extra milk and coffee for our room, no problem.

The decor of the hotel needs updating which is in the planning, the paintwork is crumbling in the reception areas and on the outdoor staircase, peeling off. The room could benefit from extra blankets for warmth in bed.

Room was large with a great Seaview. Great waking in the morning looking out to passing ferries. Lift to Upper floor was handy but FAR too small. Seaview from lounge area was great. Proximity to town centre and ferry Terminal was very convenient. A good selection of restaurants and take aways within easy walking distance.

No hot water for shower during the day. Towel rails were always switched off, shower room cold. Shower room badly designed - too easy to bang my head on angular wall beside WC. And I did more than once. No electric charge points at bedsides.

This is a grand Old Dame of a hotel. It has beautiful original features. The ceilings in the bar and dining room are spectacular, the staircase is glorious. It is extremely affordable because it hasn’t been turned into a luxury boutique hotel. It is a little bit worn but that is part of its charm. If you want a polished hotel, go elsewhere. If you want an old, charming, well run hotel with the best view in town from the downstairs bar and a fabulous location, you’ll need to overlook some of her drawbacks. This a great base for exploring the area (Outer Hebrides) but it is not a well appointed upmarket hotel. Only book this hotel if you enjoy feeling like you are living in another era. The staff are incredibly polite and helpful and managed the unreasonable expectations of a couple of guests very well. I met a lot of returning guests while I was staying there who clearly understand the charm of this hotel. I will certainly return on my next trip to Scotland.

I liked everything.

After reading all the reviews on Tripadvisor we where feeling that we had booked the wrong hotel, Well how wrong can you be, from the friendly welcome we received to the lovely sea view room we had was absolutely brilliant, the breakfast was a buffet style with plenty of choice and a friendly ambiance, the breakfast room was spotless and friendly waiting staff who where always on hand to assist. The bar and barman Liam was always helpful and helped make our stay unforgettable. so the moral is don’t believe everything you read. this hotel really ticks all the boxes if you’re planning of going to the islands from the ferry port, I also would recommend room 17 which is where we stayed for 5 days.

If I did have to point out some negatives it would be that the corridors and room doors need updating,

The food and the staff. No match for the views from the room. It was good to have access to the hotel via ramps and lifts.

We were'nt told about the steps to to the room itself til we got there. Even though we asked about disabled access. My wife could not manage getting into the room on her own and the three steps into the bathroom were awkward but we adapted. Staff apologised but were unable to relocate us. On a small note I was disappointed there was no Oban Whisky in the bar.

Staff, great.. meals absolutely delicious. Location is perfect. It was very dog friendly but expensive

Very expensive at £10 per dog per night going up to £15 add to that £6 per night to park the car... a 5 nights add on £130... hotel very tired. I feel the dog owners will be paying to update the hotel.. you have to ask to get the room serviced. I was going to book for next year but decided against it I can get my dogs into other hotels in other parts of Scotland for £30 per stay

The hotel has everything we needed. Very clean and good value. No frills. Friendly and helpful staff. Private parking. Large bar area with beautiful views of bay. Spacious with its own bathroom. Comfy beds. Shower had good pressure and plentiful hot water. No curfew as night staff on duty. Great breakfast with lots of choice. Open to non residents too so our friends staying in a hostel were able to pay and join us for breakfast. We would definitely stay again and strongly recommend

The facility's were all good Room was very quiet which was pleasing, the view was ok to the back of the hotel but the hotel itself was right on the sea front which was lovely, the breakfast was really good plenty of choice and every need was catered for which was good.

We were disappointed regarding the parking situation as that was the reason we choose the hotel as it said there was parking but were not told parking was limited and we had to pay for parking and leave our car in a public car park. overnight

Lovely location, outlook onto the harbour, 10min slow saunter to the stores and main harbour area along the flat. Very attentive sociable staff. My companion injured herself whilst arriving at the hotel (nothing to do with the hotel at all), the receptionist Rhu flew into action with bandages etc and another member of staff drove us to the A&E, on our return to the hotel, staff kindly organised a meal for us (despite kitchens having closed)....Cannot thank them enough for their help.

Hotel building a bit tired and in need of redecoration and refurbishment but still a grand building. Room very comfortable with seaview. Staff more than make up for the less plush surroundings
