I was welcomed so warmly by Sheena when I arrived and they invited me to play in the pub. I got to meet the Vatersay Boys, a famous Scottish Traditional band. The location of this hotel was excellent. While the hotel may be a bit old, the warmth of the staff made me feel so at home. I loved chatting with Jodie in the pub. As a solo traveler, it was so special to be welcomed with such kindness and generosity. I got great tips in the pub for things to see for the rest of my trip to Scotland. The location next to the ferry was a plus. It was really easy to get to the ferry on time. I also walked into town and had a great meal at the Coast Restaurant for dinner.

The Kelvin hotel Oban is a gem of a find. It is a small, privately owned hotel ideally situated for Obans transport links. It is freshly decorated, with a relaxing atmosphere throughout which is in keeping with the style and age of the property. Our room was spotlessly clean and well appointed with nothing broken or damaged. The bar opens into a relaxing sitting area with large windows giving views across the harbour to Kererra and beyond. The breakfasting room is bright and welcoming with similar views, simple but adequately appointed and offers a continental breakfast. The coffee machine is good! Its clear that Sheena takes pride in her hotel, which puts some larger better known business to shame.

For the sake of objectivity, I found the room slightly too warm and the fridge running annoyed me, until I switched it off. But that probably says more about me that it being a fault of the hotel.

We loved this period property which is full of character and lovely original features. The rooms are bright and airy with fantastic high ceilings. We had a great sea view. The staff were so friendly and very welcoming. The location is perfect for trains, buses and the ferry. The central location is perfect for bars, restaurants and shops. Tourist attractions are within easy walking distance. The continental breakfast is value for money with a very good selection to choose from.

Absolutely nothing!

The Kelvin is a comfy, old-fashioned "small hotel" in a superb location, extremely convenient to the ferry terminal, the ScotRail station, and many of the best restaurants in Oban. The staff, presided over by director Sheena, is a pure delight--kind, accommodating, funny. Sheena likes to hire excellent, promising young people from around the world, and provides them with kind, good leadership. I took my carryon through the front doors to find that Reception / Registration was at the bar in the wee, very cozy pub just inside the entrance to the right, and things only got better from there. My rooms (I stayed here twice, before and after a 2-day ferry trip to the Isles of Mull and Iona) were pleasant and immaculately clean. As the ferry port and rail station are to the front of the hotel (though some distance away), and the street in front is major-ish, there is some traffic noise during the daytime, but I found the rooms quiet and restful at night. There is a shade and a thick curtain in each, and the room can be made very dark. The beds were comfortable. There's plenty of hot water and the showers were good; good toiletries provided, and the usual excellent British panoply of electric hot-pot, tea and instant coffee, milk and sugar, and a small treat or two. The ferry-pier area contains some excellent restaurants at a range of prices--make reservations for the better ones! To get there, go out the Kelvin's door and right down the street, and loop around the Bank of Scotland and then to your left. The seafood is (of course) spectacular. Limited parking on street (free at night) or much more at a lot just across from the hotel (£7.50/day). I'd love to return to the Kelvin, and recommend it heartily. It is not a modern, luxurious, super-hotel, but it has far more character, and comfort, comfort, comfort. Also an excellent location if you're ferrying west.

Lovely welcome from the host, hotel in a great location for the ferry and the town which is only a short walk away. Lovely older character property with retained period features, high ceilings and cornice etc room had been recently refurbed/decorated. Very comfortable.

No onsite parking but parking bays over the road which are free after 18:00hrs also a reasonably large car park opposite which you pay for. We didn’t have a problem with parking during our visit.

First time staying at this hotel in Oban and won't be the last. Had double room booked but ended up in a beautiful studio flat which was spotlessly clean and lovely decorated plenty room and breakfast bar with bar stools was a bonus looking out at the ferries coming in and out. Room had walk in shower, microwave, toaster, fridge and dishwasher all cutlery plates and glasses as well as cleaning products supplied. Large smart tv also .Room cleaned daily. Staff very friendly and helpful. There is a bar but we didn't use this and you can get a continental breakfast as well but didn't use this either. Central location and across from train station and ferry terminal. Hotel was busy but couldn't hear noise from guests in other rooms. Would recommend. And look forward to staying again.

Nothing to complain about at all.

The Kelvin Hotel was perfectly located for bus, train and ferry terminals. 5 minute walk to the hotel. We had a lovely welcome and we're checked in quickly with no fuss. The hotel was spotlessly clean. Although it's quite an old building, it was well maintained. There was a lovely little bar where residents could have a drink after a day out in Oban.

There was nothing we didn't like about the hotel or staff.

The room was spotless. The room we stayed in was a studio with a small kitchen. The kitchen has a kettle, toaster, microwave and dish washer. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet. The breakfast was a continental but we were going out for breakfast so can't comment on that. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The young guy stopped what he was doing and checked us in early .

The staff were lovely, I spoke to a wonderful lady during check in who was very knowledgeable about car parking in the area, and very cheerful and friendly, going the extra mile, offering to help with our bags etc. The location is fantastic for the ferry - we went to Mull, as foot passengers, and it was literally a couple of minutes walk to the departure lounge from our hotel room. The train station was equally as close. Would 100% return.

Genuinely can't fault this hotel, everything was perfect.

Comfortable and clean place to stay that is remarkably convenient - located just a few minutes' walk from the ferry to the Isle of Mull. The staff (Sheena) was friendly and incredibly helpful - she went above and beyond expectations to help us in setting our plans to visit Mull and Iona. The hotel is extremely convenient - located in the heart of Oban too.
