If you have ever wanted to stay in a luxurious heritage property, the Manor House in Oban lives up to its name. The beautiful Georgian home that once belonged to the 5th Duke of Argyll has been lovingly preserved and restored, including a gracious dining room and sitting room, and sleeping accommodation so elegant one might think that Queen Victoria had booked herself into a room across the hall. Guests are treated to updated bathrooms, luxury linens, period furniture and stunning views. The architecture is reason enough to visit but the exemplary staff enhance the desire to return. David, who was the manager on duty during our stay, offered exceptional advice and assistance, as did the servers and housekeepers who played an important role in maintaining the gold standard service. A stay at the Manor House is like a convivial visit with a favourite friend; everyone feels welcomed and is received with true pleasure, augmented by delicious food, dreamy bedrooms and breathtaking vistas. We can’t wait for our next trip to Scotland and a longer stay at this lovely guest house.

A small quibble: The lighting in the bathroom didn't include lights by the the mirror which made it difficult to apply makeup. I suspect rewiring might have done too much damage to the plaster walls.

We really enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was really good, the room was spacious and clean with access to a hair dryer to use at a mirrored table and a fan to make the room temperature more comfortable, the staff were all very friendly and accommodating, the hotel was period and beautiful inside and out and the location was great within a 15 minute walking distance from the middle of town.

The only item that needs to be worked on is the bed. It was comfortable but slanted down towards the headboard. We did not bring this to the staff's attention and just slept with our heads towards the foot of the bed which worked just fine. Even with this minor issue I would stay here again without hesitation.

Amazingly helpful and friendly staff. Real old fashioned service with humour and a smile. Stunning location with views of the bay from all the public rooms and some bedrooms. Charming building - with a lovely tour by David. Lounge and bar with comfortable settees and wood fires were a destination in their own right. All the guests loved these cosy areas. Living the dream of country house life with attentive service. Breakfast was also excellent with proper service instead of a buffet. Short walk into Oban and the ferries. We will probably go back.

The Manor House was absolutely wonderful! It was the epitome of a luxury B & B. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a stunning view of the sea. There was a full bar downstairs and they also have a restaurant. Our breakfast was delicious! Stephen, our host, was personable and accommodating—he anticipated our every need! He made reservations for us to dine in town, and served us from the bar each night. We left early the third day, and he packed us a breakfast to go! Hand-made sandwiches, yogurts, fruit, breakfast bars, water and juice. Absolutely incredible!! If I could give a rating of 12 out of 10, I would do that!

I loved everything!

Great location, beautiful property, amazing views, comfortable beds, quiet space, delicious breakfast! The absolute highlight, however, was the staff and David in particular. David proved how wonderful he was before we even arrived by calling to make sure we were okay when we were running a few hours late from when we said we’d be there. He then went above and beyond for our entire stay, providing recommendations, suggesting new Scottish beers/whisky based off what we had already ordered and liked (and was doing the same for other guests’ gin preferences), and generally being a delightful person to talk to. We learned so much about Oban and Scotland just by chatting with him! We will definitely be back!

Gorgeous historic hotel with elegant rooms, great baths, very comfortable beds, and a lovely garden. The staff was welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was superb: abundant and delicious. We enjoyed sampling whiskeys at the bar and followed the bar tender's excellent advice--he was knowledgeable and fun. We stayed in two rooms--one with a view over the bay and one with a view of the woods--and enjoyed both. The beds were noteworthy for their comfort and great pillows. The town center is a very easy ten minute walk; a nice stroll before and after dinner around the harbor.

The staff were exemplary- courteous, friendly, informative and very knowledgeable about the area, activities, restaurants and whiskies. They took great care of us. The chef and restaurant are top notch. Best meals we ate during our travels in Scotland. The Manor House is a beautiful, elegant and comfortable property with a great view of Oban bay. A lovely location, great welcoming staff and very comfortable room. Good shower!! Plenty options for food and drink and information on other places available. Breakfast was freshly cooked and generous. Again, breakfast staff were lovely. I always stay here when I visit Oban and I'm never disappointed.

Wifi is a little erratic but that's not a bad thing and helps you to switch off a bit more!

The staff is what makes the facility so incredible! David and the team are attentive and work tirelessly to help you achieve your destination experience. I had done research about visiting Isle of Mull or taking a less-traveled hike of Gylen Castle. We had a hunch that the Gylen Castle trip would be more suited for us (i.e Ferry, five-mile-hike versus car ferry, drive on busy island and see lots of cool stuff on Mull) Bottom line is that you can't go wrong either way, but David encouraged us to visit Gylen, and then made arrangements to get us the little ferry across. He was beyond helpful and we are so glad we choose Gylen Castle. The food at the Manor is awesome; and we were pleasantly surprised when we had to leave early to find a Reception Area worker chasing us down with a 'to go' breakfast ! The rooms are cozy, in the style of the historic manor; the views of the harbor are stunning. (P.S. if you do venture to Gylen Castle --- DO NOT use the gravel path to the right to get up to the Castle -- find the grass side on left -- as you're coming from the little tea cottage - as a form of reference).

Everything. We were marooned an extra day in Oban by a huge storm that closed all roads in and out and train service. A local cabbie remarked that we were staying in the best place to be marooned. He was right. A small hotel with beautiful public rooms, comfortable bedrooms, very nice restaurant, convenient location overlooking the harbor with a short walk to the heart of town. Above all were the wonderful staff: Daniel, David, and Steven and the rest of the crew cannot be equaled in attentiveness, diligence, and friendliness. They made room for us when we couldn’t leave town, monitored road and rail conditions, and helped in so many ways. This is the place to stay in Oban.
