Location is excellent, in the heart of Peebles. Food was good. Bed very comfortable. Staff were very helpful. Relaxed atmosphere. The Tontine is a historic hotel and very much the social hub of the town, very friendly and welcoming.

If you had mobility issues the only lift is between the ground floor and the second floor of the annexe, so you would need to request a room on that floor. Parking is a bit of an issue although we always managed to get in the car park overnight. The rooms are a bit dark and would benefit from lighter decor. The shower curtains would preferably be replaced by fixed shower screens. The window nets should be replaced by blinds. Overall, the hotel offers an enjoyable, relaxing and comfortable stay and we would stay again.

Had to pay for an upgrade as the room we were originally allocated was ground level with no view. Having paid for an upgrade, the 2nd room we were allocated wasn't ready as it was awaiting cleaning; Eventually the 3rd room we were allocated was ready and had a river view. We only had one towel so asked at reception for one more bath towel and one more hand towel. We returned to our room 4 hours later and no towels had been provided so we asked again at reception. The receptionist apologised and said that she'd sort it right away. Still no towels were sent to the room so we gave up.

I have to say the staff. Especially two young ladies serving dinner and breakfast. One is still at school and one is heading to university soon. They were the most polite and thoughtful young ladies. They spoke beautifully and were watchful for anyone who was needing attention. They were not intrusive but were there when required. Thankyou for hiring excellent staff. This truely makes travel a wonderful experience. The building and furnishings were particularly beautiful and the room was very comfortable.

The limited car parking in the carpark could be an issue if they were all taken. However, I'm sure there is a practical solution for this.

central location, dinner portions were good size and well presented. relaxing public seating and dining areas.

car park at rear was down a steep hill. if advised in advance would have dropped of luggage and passengers at front door. Would have appreciated a bottle of drinking water in room. While breakfast menu selection was good. Were disappointed when selecting just bacon and egg from the large selection we received a large plate with one egg and one rasher of bacon. We were expecting at least 2 rashers. This looked mean. Feel the waiting staff should have asked if we wanted 2 rashers or 2 eggs.

A traditional hotel where customers take priority. Every member of staff was cheerie, polite, and very helpful. Nothing was a problem for them. Breakfasts were freshly made and well cooked. It was worth the little extra to have the lovely view of the Tweed River every morning.The room was cleaned daily, and all linen changed if you required.

Some of the bedroom furniture was a little old fashioned, and bedroom lamps were extremely hard to read by. But that did little to detract from the well-appointed room/bathroom and extremely comfortable beds.

Great fresh cooked breakfast with cereal, toast, juice, fruit etc on a eat as much as you want buffet service. The room was excellent for the price with a walk in double shower and sizeable bathroom and wardrobe with hangers for say 8 garments which was plenty for our stay. Hotel was fine, nice spacious dining room, lounge and room with quite modern decor.

At the time of our stay there were a group of males seemingly on a shoot and whether it was them or somebody else but some males were quite rowdy in the corridor at the back of the hotel near to our room some of which either were next door or across the landing based on the slamming of the room door at 4.00AM. Can't hold the hotel responsible for this and it can happen anywhere but some people are just downright inconsiderate.

Food was fabulous from.fresh cooked breakfast to main dinner choices. Cocktails were superb and the staff were professional courteous and served with a smile

The decor in some parts needed upgrading and maintenance on the woodwork is in serious need for painting. Lift required to 2nd floor... never asked if we had health issues and 50+ steps were not expected as clientele were mostly elderly. Room was almost attic type with angled ceilings but no warning signs but fab linen towels etc. Car park at rear was downhill from reception and another 60 + steps from.rear access door via 2 floors to road level and reception....

I'm happy to give a positive review of the Tontine. It's a spacious, traditional hotel in a welcoming small borders town on the Tweed, and you get a friendly welcome from the smartly turned-out staff. I ate in the hotel and the menu was excellent and affordably priced, and the large restaurant has an impressive view of the rolling lowland hills through high arched windows. Lovely, when it's not raining. The room itself was more adequate rather than de-luxe, but that was all I required and does not detract from my very good impression. Would gladly stay again.

The long and mazy trek to rooms 15+16! No, not a serious complaint.

Staff very helpful and went out of their way to help. Would stay again. Breakfast good, plenty of choice. Very clean. Slept well, comfortable. Would recomend Prince of India Diner (just fancied an Indian meal) located opposite hotel. Parking great.

Room 10 had no lift except to sub floor so had to carry bags up/downstairs. Room had view of flat roof and partial view of river walk. Shower had no tray for holding own/hotel's toiletries. Although hotel toiletries were green, awkward to use.

The location was beautiful and very dog friendly. Behind the hotel is a very scenic river with lovely walks. spotlessly clean. The reception staff were also very lovely and helpful. As were the waitresses when taking orders and serving food. Food great too. Value for money. The specials menu at night was a little bit different too than run of the mill pub food. Hotel was spotless, lovely decor, huge beds.

Loved it all, will definitely be returning.
