The staff on reception and on the bar were excellent . They were friendly and polite . The room was up to standard and would compare favourably to brands such as travel lodge or premier. The setting of the hotel was terrific with parkland and good external seating in the garden . Price was excellent . I fear that the unfavourable reviews I have read on other review sites were spoilers . I have stayed in many hotels and I have given an honest review .

The walk to the front is about 12 minutes down hill . We used a local taxi to visit local bars and restaurants . 4 people 5 pounds . Considering the good price of the hotel this is a small expenditure .

It was once a lovely house I’m sure.

Shame it’s still not.

The look of the hotel inside and out was good, lovely sunken garden with tables and chairs. Lots of rooms with a variety of styles to sit in to chill out. Bar well stocked and the dining/breakfast room huge. Breakfast there was a good choice (shame no mushrooms). Evening meal exceptionally well cooked. Great chef. All the staff were very, friendly and helpful. The price for breakfast was ok, but a reduced rate for a continental would be a good idea as not everyone wants a big cooked breakfast.

Unfortunately the divan base was very old and saggy so didnt support the mattress, very uncomfortable. For the size of room a kingsize bed would have been more appropriate. There were no electric/charging points by the beds they were the other side of the room. The tv was also very tiny, a larger one fixed to the wall would be a good idea.

This hotel is situated in a lovely location surrounded by a park which houses red squirrels. It is a quiet oasis after a busy day. I used to visit this hotel in the 70s as a child so I have fond memories. It was a very exclusive and well kept place back then,so the beautiful original features could be appreciated. Everywhere was very clean which is an important plus for us and we will stay again.

It is sad to say that that this place now is in need of a huge input of money to transform it back to its former self. The external woodwork is looking very worn and whilst the garden areas are still beautiful, you can see more tlc os needed. In the newer block internal painting and works are obviously progressing. The communal areas inside need totally refurbishing as are looking worn and dated.

Clean rooms and everything you need, comfortable beds, good shower, good for pets (we brought our cat) and good for baby’s, a cot was provided at no extra charge. Customer service excellent is the reason I voted 9 instead of 8 - they processed a refund for us as I ordered an extra room by mistake despite booking.com no refund policy as it was a genuine mistake, but it was nice to see staff respond kindly and handle the refund with no problems. Most other hotels probably wouldn’t have if they didn’t need to.

The only thing to say really is it’s a bit outdated, but nevertheless it is a nice hotel with history so what else to expect really.

The property was beautiful in lovely grounds. It’s an old mansion House that’s been turned into a hotel.. need some work as it’s still a little dated and still some of the mansion is still back in its time but all very nice ..the rooms were clean and very comfortable .. 10 star buffet breakfast.. the only thing I say is the dining room is open between 6 and 630. I think it could be open later. Give people more flexibility on their evening meal time. If you want an old mansion house/hotel to stay in and this is the one ifor you if you want a big posh beautiful hotel this is not for you what I loved about this hotel as well that it’s dog friendly. . As I had a little dog with me ..

Not much, I did not like about this hotel as it was an old mansion hotel I loved that kind of thing

This was our first trip to the Isle of Wight and the hotel was a big part in making it such a fun and relaxing trip. The staff were all lovely, the actual building and grounds are amazing: they are so big and lots of different areas to sit, chat, relax etc. A pretty walled garden out the front, several lounges, a bar... comfy squishy chairs to melt into while waiting for family to join you. I was so happy as a dog owner how well the whole hotel was set up. It was honestly the best place we've stayed with a dog. No stress or extortionate charges for having our four-legged friend with us. There are huge gardens out the front where you can easily take the dog for a stretch of legs and let them off. The beach and pier are a 7-10 min walk which is another nice area. The morning staff put us in the Ballroom with the dog for breakfast and were so accommodating, bringing us our breakfast there so we could have the dog. It's nice for the other guests also not to have a dog in the breakfast room so this was a great solution. The hotel is in a great location to walk to Sandown beach town and to drive all over the island, lots of free parking. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, spacious and airy. Lots of hot water. Very quiet at night (unless you could the revellers returning to their rooms but that's not their fault) and nice beds. 10/10.

The breakfast was very good, buffet style . Usual choice of hot food, cereals, fruit juices, yogurt and fresh fruit. Gluten free bread and Oat milk available. Large Choice of public rooms to choose from to sit and relax. Plenty of parking. Room and bathroom were clean and adequate. Large shower in our room although other family members had an over bath shower.

Check in was at 3.00 and reservations for dinner had to be made by 4.00 but we weren’t told that and so were forced to go out to eat as we couldn’t reserve a table. Disappointing. Also dinner is only served between 6.00 and 6.30.
