Location was good, 5 min walk to the train station. 10 min walk to the beach. Room was spacious. Bathroom was spacious. Owners were polite. Parking in site and breakfast included.

WiFi didn't work. The password is on the wall but doesn't say which network. It didn't work in our room. Mattress and pillows could do with an upgrade. With the space in the bathroom, it would have been nice to have something or somewhere to put toiletries on/in. TV didn't work as the batteries in the remote had leaked. At check-in, we were given a form to fill in for what we'd like for breakfast. It would have been nice to get this form each evening as it was just assumed what you select on the first day that's what you'd have for breakfast every morning. Choose wisely on day one!! Shower wasn't great, I'd you've got long thick hair, allow extra time! Towels were rough and not very big.

Location - ten minutes on foot to the seafront, 5 minutes to the bus stop when travelling to Ryde, 10 minutes to the bus stop when travelling to Newport, 5 minutes to the railway station. Clean room, perfect English breakfast with a friendly nice lady serving it. You choose what to eat the day before. I was absolutely satisfied, will definitely come back.

The only thing I missed a bit was a fan as there is no A/C in the room and on a hot day the room gets rather warm, but with all the windows open you do manage.

The breakfasts were first rate! The bed was very comfortable. I had an essay to finish and there was a DESK. The last place had no desk, so it was a bit difficult. So glad there was a desk at Fernside.

Well, there were no towels. I checked on the Booking site and it didn't say anything about towels, so I didn't ask. Luckily, I had a towel.

Large ensuite room, nice comfy bed and plenty of pillows. Room at front of house so got a bit of street noise but mostly daytime. Good facilities, tv and tea making. Needed to borrow an iron, no problem. Breakfast was fantastic (full English). Free wifi.

As staff not always available perhaps a message pad at the desk if something needed in the room?

You know how it is: you want a weekend away and the well known chain would be the easy option - you know what you’ll get. But the chain doesn’t always offer the value for money it might want you to believe it offers. So you look for something else. You check the reviews and eventually you make a choice and hope you’ve made a good one. But unless you’ve stayed before, there’s still a slight nagging doubt, a fear of the unknown maybe. Well fear no more - for me, The Fernside delivered completely. Friendly owners, a comfortable room that was clean, a nice breakfast cooked to order, a convenient location near the local station and a good real ale pub, ten minutes walk to the seafront at a slow pace, and very good value for money. I’ll be back to Sandown sometime in the future, and the choice next time will be easy - same again.

Nothing to dislike - even Winston the Chocolate Lab was friendly, as long as I didn’t sit on his sofa!

We had a warm welcome and the proprietor took the time to contact in advance to ask when we intended to arrive and was kind enough to have our room ready for us. The room was large and comfortable (i slept really well every night) and the shower warm and powerful. Everything was lovely and clean too. Breakfast was good quality and really set you up for the day. The dining room was comfortable and the waitress very pleasant. Location is great, just a few mins walk from the station and 5mins from bus stops and the high street of Sandown - which has so much too do around it and is home to some lovely eateries. We couldn't have been more welcome and thank you for having us.

Excellent breakfast. Convenient location for station. Flexibility of proprietor, allowing me to drop off baggage before normal check-in time and allowing me to leave baggage on departure date while I was still exploring the IoW.

It was a bit disconcerting not seeing or speaking to any staff member until my first breakfast.

Friendly welcoming host. Superb breakfast included and a very good room rate. Room was spacious, bright, clean and comfortable, and quiet. Right by the train station and minutes from the beach. Excellent value in a good location. Good wifi. OK shower. No complaints at all.

Two minutes walk from the railway station, 7 or 8 minutes walk to the beach. Comfortable bed, superb breakfast and good value. It's almost 50 years since my last visit to Sandown. Thank you to The Fernside for your part in a wonderful trip down Memory Lane.
