Location was good, 5 min walk to the train station. 10 min walk to the beach. Room was spacious. Bathroom was spacious. Owners were polite. Parking in site and breakfast included.

WiFi didn't work. The password is on the wall but doesn't say which network. It didn't work in our room. Mattress and pillows could do with an upgrade. With the space in the bathroom, it would have been nice to have something or somewhere to put toiletries on/in. TV didn't work as the batteries in the remote had leaked. At check-in, we were given a form to fill in for what we'd like for breakfast. It would have been nice to get this form each evening as it was just assumed what you select on the first day that's what you'd have for breakfast every morning. Choose wisely on day one!! Shower wasn't great, I'd you've got long thick hair, allow extra time! Towels were rough and not very big.

You know how it is: you want a weekend away and the well known chain would be the easy option - you know what you’ll get. But the chain doesn’t always offer the value for money it might want you to believe it offers. So you look for something else. You check the reviews and eventually you make a choice and hope you’ve made a good one. But unless you’ve stayed before, there’s still a slight nagging doubt, a fear of the unknown maybe. Well fear no more - for me, The Fernside delivered completely. Friendly owners, a comfortable room that was clean, a nice breakfast cooked to order, a convenient location near the local station and a good real ale pub, ten minutes walk to the seafront at a slow pace, and very good value for money. I’ll be back to Sandown sometime in the future, and the choice next time will be easy - same again.

Nothing to dislike - even Winston the Chocolate Lab was friendly, as long as I didn’t sit on his sofa!

We had a warm welcome and the proprietor took the time to contact in advance to ask when we intended to arrive and was kind enough to have our room ready for us. The room was large and comfortable (i slept really well every night) and the shower warm and powerful. Everything was lovely and clean too. Breakfast was good quality and really set you up for the day. The dining room was comfortable and the waitress very pleasant. Location is great, just a few mins walk from the station and 5mins from bus stops and the high street of Sandown - which has so much too do around it and is home to some lovely eateries. We couldn't have been more welcome and thank you for having us.

Friendly welcoming host. Superb breakfast included and a very good room rate. Room was spacious, bright, clean and comfortable, and quiet. Right by the train station and minutes from the beach. Excellent value in a good location. Good wifi. OK shower. No complaints at all.

All good. Maybe let me butter my own toast. Maybe a bigger TV.

Accomodation was absolutely spotless, a lot of attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness. Staff were friendly and personable, very down to earth yet professional. Breakfast was very good quality.

Was a little further from sea front then expected, took a little while to get bearings of the area as was listed as only 500 yards from beach, but isn't. However this did not affect enjoying of holiday at all, just took a bit more navigating to begin with.

Two minutes walk from the railway station, 7 or 8 minutes walk to the beach. Comfortable bed, superb breakfast and good value. It's almost 50 years since my last visit to Sandown. Thank you to The Fernside for your part in a wonderful trip down Memory Lane.

Nothing at all

Lovely friendly staff, delicious cooked breakfast. Tea, coffee in room and towels available. Ideal location for beach, trains, buses and town centre. Free car parking. Room cold and WIFI did not work hence 8/10

This is one of my favourite b&bs. It has a lovely atmosphere, great room with tv and shower and generous cooked breakfast. A big thank you to Stuart and his staff. I would definitely like to come back to complete the coastal walk.

Very good value. Bigger than average single room. Substantial breakfast - good choice and freshly cooked. Location not all that near the town centre and beach, though that wasn't a problem for me.

No serious faults that I can think of. I'd definitely stay there again.

The location and the rooms were very good. The breakfast was awesome. The ladies were very friendly and very helpful.

The room felt a bit chilly in the night but overall very good.
