This was one of the best places we have ever stayed. The room was large, (it needed to be to allow for the very comfortable large bed). It was well stocked including tea, coffee, biscuits and even bottles of water. The bathroom was clean, spacious, again, well stocked and the bathrobes were a nice touch. The breakfast choice was very extensive, well prepared and served with excellence (thank you Ania! and, sorry did not get all your names!!). The grounds are also well tended and worth a walk and do not forget to have a look at the "Car Barn". The bar, of an evening, was great with the locals making you feel welcome.

The hotel rooms are in a lovely setting with decking and views over the fields. Peaceful in the evening, just perfect for us and the early morning cockerill an added bonus. Clean and comfortable rooms, with underfloor heating which made it cosy. Great bathroom with shower and quirky bath. Coffee machine with choice of drinks and bottled water a bonus and Amanda who was in charge of housekeeping was very helpful and friendly.

No major dislikes however a towel rail in the bathroom would have been useful. It looked like there had been one but this needed replacing to finish off to the high standard expected for the price paid. Just that attention to detail and the tap on the beautiful sink was awkward to use and fit your hands underneath. Perhaps a design error but not very practical. A little too warm for us overnight so the ability to turn the heating down would have been welcome (although I am sure if I had asked the staff would have been more than accommodating)

What a gem. We really enjoyed our stay at the Black Horse. The location was a delight. We booked Juniper room which is up the steps.I thought having the rooms named after trees was a great idea. The front had a view of the lavender garden with the rear in the distance of countryside. The receptionist was helpful and she showed us to our room. The room was large and there was plenty of cupboard space. The furniture complemented the style of the room. Also the room was clean. I was in trepidation about the open plan bathroom and was pleasantly surprised to find a curtain which draws across the entrance into the ensuite. The bath was unique. We ate breakfast and evening meals at the hotel which were very good and plenty of choice. We intend to return.

To show on Booking.com and own hotel web site the curtain which allow privacy from the bedroom to bathroom if guests require this. Or at least have the information included. I assume curtains are in all of the rooms.

The room and standard of accommodation was excellent and surpassed my expectations. Large room beautifully furnished to a high quality with extremely comfortable bed, free standing slipper bath, separate large shower, coffee machine, large Wall TV and amazing views of open countryside and lavender fields.......I was only disappointed I couldn't spend more time in my room !!! The rooms are all independent of the main country pub giving the feel of staying in a private cottage. Excellent food in the restaurant and a great option for visiting Newcastle, Beamish and surrounding areas. I would highly recommend and will definitely stay again. Ps All staff very friendly and helpful too!!

I couldn't fault it at all......just lovely

Everything about the property was excellent. The location is set in extensive grounds and ideal for walks or relaxation. The rooms which are separate from the pub, are very quaint and very well equipped and are maintained to a high standard. They look like little cottages in the countryside. There’s the Black Horse pub on site where you have your meals and fits in perfectly with the surroundings and amenities. It’s all like a mini village. All of the staff are extremely helpful and everyone we met from reception staff to gardener gave us a very warm welcome with happy inviting smiles.

Apparently the heating is set automatically, so you can’t regulate yourself. Although this wasn’t a huge problem to us. It would have been nice to have been able to increase the heat in the room initially to really warm us up. The temperate showing was 21 degrees, so it was definitely not cold…… just would have been nice to have that extra boost. Wood floors are nice ( and obviously dog friendly) but don’t send out warm cozy messages to the brain. It wouldn’t stop me from staying again as overall the experience was great.

We received a free upgrade due to a minor problem with the bathroom sink in the room and were pleasantly surprised as the new room was fabulous although the room that we booked was lovely also. The lady in reception was extremely helpful and kind which we appreciated very much after a long journey. The breakfast was also fabulous with lots of choice both hot and cold. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and lunch and both meals were lovely with great service. The location is stunning with countryside views all round and a classic car showroom at the bottom of the garden which was very interesting, we will definitely be staying there again as we visit family in the area.

Absolutely nothing!

Beautiful room, it had everything we needed, large bed, amazing bathroom with an enormous round bath (I took some extra bubble bath!), tea/ coffee, fridge etc. The room was very clean, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Great location surrounded by countryside, only a few minutes from Beamish museum, which we visited for a day. Electric charge points were available in the pub car park too, which came in very handy for us. We booked room only, so I can’t comment on the food in the pub, but it did look lovely. We would love to stay again when visiting this area.

There was a bit of noise early morning from the upstairs flat/ apartment above our room, someone heavy footed walking about; not sure if this is staff, or if they are rooms that are let out too. Some earplugs would have been handy that morning but unfortunately I didn’t bring any. We didn’t notice any noise on our second morning, so likely a one off.

This is an excellent hotel/motel located a few miles from the Beamish Museum. It would be an ideal location for lodgings to visit Beamish. We had been booked into another lodging that was unacceptable and luckily were able to get the last room available at the Black Horse that evening. The room was amazing. Everything was large, the king size bed, the luxurious bathroom, complete with large soaking tub and wonderful shower, there was room to hang clothes in the wardrobe provided and put suitcases on pedestals for easy access. Rooms of this size are a luxury in Europe. (These were once small cottages and refitted into hotel rooms with a second floor added) Our bathroom window looked over beautiful fields of lavender, blue in the setting sun. The grounds are punctuated with flowerbeds that apparently bloom from spring to fall, there were blooms all over in September. Rooms are either ground floor or first floor. Those on the first floor have a nice covered porch with chairs where, weather permitting, one could sip a glass of wine looking onto the lavender fields. Parking was very near our room and the parking lots and drives are paved making it easy to move roller suitcases along to the rooms. We had a very good charcuterie board in the Black Horse Restaurant along with several pints of their best bitter. Breakfast next day was a combination of buffet and made to order full English or whatever variety one wanted. Breakfast, dinner and the beer were excellent. We were so lucky to find a room at the Black Horse on the fly as we were. Compared to the hovel we rejected the Black Horse looked like the Ritz Carlton.

Everything was perfect.

Beautiful scenery, very nicely decorated and comfortable. Nice staff and a nice on site pub. Super comfy bed, beautiful views of the countryside.

Some small issues like the taps were missing their hot / cold signs on the bath so it was really hard to run a bath properly not knowing how to work them, especially as the water was scorching! No soap or hand gel or bath gel etc - there were lovely shower toiletries but nothing to use by the sink or bath, which considering there is massive copper bath, felt a bit of a miss. The doors between bedroom and bathroom didn’t close fully which meant you could see through the cracks making it a bit awkward when sharing with a friend! Finally the sound proofing is non existent, we could hear every sound and movement from the room above, which didn’t make for a great sleep (unfortunately we had some noisy neighbours, may have been OK with a quieter guest!).

The breakfast was superb. One had the full English and one had the Continental. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal on the first night and lunches during the two days we stayed. We walked around the venue admiring the Wedding Venue and the beautiful grounds including the superb lavender field. The staff are wonderfully friendly, providing for our every need or request. An amazing place to stay. We would thoroughly recommend a visit. We will be returning at some point. Thank you for making a 70th Birthday very Special! Kindest regards to all.
