WE GOT TO ABBEY SANDS TO FIND IT SHUT, WE STAYED AT A SISTER HOTEL THE GRAND WHICH WAS VERY NICE

POOL WAS FAR TO COLD AT GRAND HOTEL

We enjoyed our stay here. Beds were comfortable. Room was clean. Nice selection of teas (including mint tea), coffee and hot chocolate plus biscuits - all of which were replenished daily. Pool area was clean and pool towels were provided which was a nice extra. On the negative side the online advertising stated 2 bed family rooms had sea views and a safe - our 2 bed family room had neither. There was no lift which wasn't ideal. Staff were friendly and helpful. Shampoo , shower gel, soap and body lotion were all provided and the bath was extra long which we appreciated. We hadn't booked an adapted room so weren't expecting a handrail to help with exiting the bath but it would have made a nice addition. Good location - about 10 minutes from the train station and about 5 minutes from the beach. Plenty of places to eat nearby. Good value for money. We would stay here again.

The room was excellent. Breakfast was self-service but the choice and quality were good. We felt for the restaurant manager who was working unaided on the first morning after our arrival, which meant he was trying to check people in to the restaurant, replenish stock, clear tables and assist customers. However, the chef on duty came and helped him whenever he was free to do so. The main receptionist on the evening of our arrival was excellent and friendly (I believe his name was Peter), especially when he helped us to find a parking space by moving his own car to a shared space.

When Peter went off duty, the receptionist who took over was not so helpful - he made no effort to help us to our room with our bags, despite my sister struggling and using a walking stick to assist her.

Was only there for 1 night but definitely want to go and stay for longer. Wish there was on site parking or a way that you can receipt the parking costs as it is expensive and at a premium too. Room was absolutely lovely, great view across the bay. Reception were friendly and helpful too. Looked like there was plenty of choice for breakfast however, sadly we had to leave before sun up. Check in and out was very easy too.

Could not adjust the room heating and it was boiling. Rather that then being freezing though. We had a balcony but to get on to it you had to open window and climb out others less able than me may struggle.

Lovely 4 night stay at the Abbey Sands Hotel, room was huge (311) and was very modern in design, plenty of cupboard / drawer space for clothes and personal possessions etc. Room cleaned daily with tea/coffee/milk replenished. We made use of the indoor pool and jacuzzi which was lovely, however a little disappointed that the outdoor pool was out of use during our stay in August. Great location, with a 2 min walk to the beach front or 10 min walk to harbour/town centre. Would definitely stay again

The only small issue was the outdoor pool out of use during our stay but did not affect our holiday.

The staff were so friendly, hardworking and couldn't do enough for you. Always saying hello and engaging in conversation and very quick to help with any problems or questions. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty with good options. The room was very comfy and the beds were great. The hotel was kept very clean. The location is brilliant as it's just a 10 minute walk to the harbour and the main town but there are pubs and restaurants closer. The nearest beach is less than 5 minutes away. Really good transport links everywhere as well so don't need to rely on driving everywhere.

The hotel is a bit dated although you can tell they are making improvements gradually. The bar area and lounge in the evening weren't very inviting if you wanted to get a drink after an evening out. It's not a big thing but would be nice to have the lights on in the lovely seating area and the bar manned for just a few hours so the vet has working reception staff didn't have to run up to serve you. This isn't in anyway a slur on any of the staff as they were brilliant but rather a tip for the hotel owners.

Great facilities, pool. Good value and comfortable.

Moved from Abbey Sands to The Grand Hotel to a large room, very good value. Beautiful location near the sea, with conservatory offering food. Walkable to main town . Spa available but might need to book.

Restaurant is very expensive for both breakfast and dinner. No special offers or set menus and no dietary allowances . For example £18 for breakfast for diabetic , with no fat free cooking, veg or salad options . Reception correspondence did not answer this direct dietary question when asked and also did not say there was free parking either. Charged £20 then on checking out they told us, due Receptionist error of not entering our car registration, we may get a £60 fine so we'd have to pay it then claim it back through the hotel. Not the way you want to end your stay with a parking fine due to their error!!! Hotel room at back of hotel was noisy with train announcements and very late 1am parry noise. Pool was cold and needs repair to cracked tiles urgently.

Warm welcome from FOH. Immediately offered alternative parking. Shown the facilities and hotel info, directed to room. Lovely big quirky room, I loved it. Clean bathroom, bath with shower over, no matter when we used it, lots of hot water. Very good tea/coffee supply and soya milk available at any time. Nice views from the windows, beach on one side, Torquay hillside behind. The dining room and other hotel areas looked nice. We didn't do breakfast as it's not our normal routine, but it looked OK. Short walk to beach and bars, we walked to Cockington village, which took 35-40 mins. We came for a beach holiday before the return to school and work and the weather allowed us that. Very friendly helpful staff at all times. People mentioned the smell. I noticed it on the way in, but it wasn't bad, and it didn't follow us. It was also on the roadside. Perhaps Torquay's drains are not up to so many visitors. I would stay here again.

The indoor pool was not to my liking. It was adequate, but I would imagine quite crowded with more than a handful of people.
