Breakfast was outstanding though my husband would've liked a little more of the fried toast!!!

My hair is shoulder length and although a hairdryer was provided, I felt this was a little out of date and awkward to style my hair due to the lack of power and position in the room. Most.hotels and B&B'S now provided plug in hairdryers. Possibly something to discuss and implement.

Ascot house is a lovely old building. The breakfast was very good and we liked being able to walk into the centre whilst leaving our car in their car park. Great shower too..

The stairs up to our room in the attic were very steep and narrow and difficult to negotiate with luggage. Personally, I didn't like the metal bars at the head of the bed as this made it impossible to sit up in bed comfortably.

First class breakfast, delicious and plenty of choice from the buffet table. Room was really lovely, very spacious and exceptionally clean. Beautiful decor through out, felt like you were staying in a very high quality Victorian guest house with the bedroom being more modern in decor and the bathroom being more updated with a large walk in shower and lovely powerful shower head. The selection of drink making , tea, coffee, hot choc, biscuits and little toiletries for use were excellent too. Also walking in to the guest house it had a beautiful flowery scent to welcome you, which eventually I worked out to be the gorgeous vase of Lillie's on the reception desk!

The mattress on the bed was a little to hard for me, but I do suffer from a lot of neck and shoulder pain, so when staying away that is always a problem for me anyway.

Was greeted by June, one of the owners, who was very helpful. We stayed 4 nights and family room was spacious and bright, beds very comfortable. En-suite shower was powerful and big. Very clean. Room was cleaned every day. Breakfast was delicious. Plenty of choice, from all types of fruit, seeds, good choice of cereal, porridge made to order and continental style deli. Lots of toast (whole meal and white) cooked breakfast was delicious and perfectly made. Staff very cheerful, polite, attentive and efficient. The location is perfect for a trip to York ,being a 15 minute walk away. We didn’t use the car once.

Not enough onsite parking when hotel full, but you can park on the road to the side of the guest house, which is free from Fri afternoon to Monday am. June kindly let us use her parking space and the next day there was a free space in the car park, so wasn’t really an issue in the end.

Breakfast was great and parking was available to the rear of the property. Handy Co-Op across the street. Staff were welcoming and friendly and the place was clean. Large shower cubicle and shower power was excellent. Bedroom and bathroom were a good size.

Bed was a little harder than we're used to but others may find this perfectly acceptable. We got blocked in by a worker's van in the car-park and were unable to locate the driver so we cancelled a planned trip out. There is scaffold around the property currently and although this was apologised for upon arrival, it would have been more courteous to have been informed beforehand. Painters and roofers walking past the window was unusual. As this is an older property, there were far less plug sockets than in more modern establishments.

The location of the accommodation is excellent been here a few times and it never disappoints. Lovely park right on doorstep for the dogs which is beautiful. The breakfasts are fantastic a great choice of food which is always hot and served on hot plates which is a great plus. The staff and owner are brilliant nothing is a problem for them, they are always efficient , eager to help and very friendly.Rooms are spotless and have very comfy beds some rooms have four poster beds .Wine and water glasses are provided and are changed daily if required. The accommodation has a lovely homely atmosphere and is also spotless. The staff obviously like working there and take a lot of pride in their work. A great place to stay as it has its own private car park which allows you to walk into the centre of York about 20 mins. without worrying about parking.

Everything was great even the weather!!!

From the minute we were welcomed at reception by the Lady of the House ( June ) and Willow the Spaniel. Until the minute we checked out everything was absolutely SUPERB. The House itself was Amazing and had obviously been well maintained over the years. The room we stayed in was outstanding, from the antique furniture, four poster bed and single bed to the Ultra Modern bathroom. Everything was absolutely spotless and the beds were very comfortable. Downstairs to the hall, lounge and dining area were equally impressive with stunning original features. We were set up for the day ahead with either a light continental style breakfast or a more hearty option of a Traditional Full English which was absolutely amazing, piping hot and cooked to perfection. Whatever your preference there was ample choice to suit all. Finally the staff of which we only actually saw two, June the Lady of the house and a young lady waiting on in the dining room. If this was the case and there were only 2 members of staff, then the Very High Standard they achieve throughout is Highly Impressive. Myself, My Wife and My Mother in Law would Highly Recommend Ascot House to anyone looking to visit York. We would like to say a Massive Thank You For an Outstandingly Run Establishment to which we will certainly be returning to in the Future Thank You Paul, Colene and Libby

There wasn't anything to dislike

Lovely hotel in the traditional style that gives you the feeling on homeliness. The reception provides registration cards that I haven’t seen for many years which added a touch of bygone-era style that made me smile. The rooms we stayed in had a four-poster bed keeping with the overall theme, yet with totally modern bathroom and walk in shower. The breakfast was top drawer with a buffet of fruit, cereals, yoghurts, pastries and croissants; meats and cheeses and fruit juices. I confess that I pigged out and had the full English breakfast each morning which was cooked to order with top quality locally sourced bacon and sausages, eggs cooked to your choice, mushrooms, beans, tomato, fried bread and black pudding. Toast, butter and marmalade all washed down with freshly brewed coffee or tea. The owner June made the stay, with her amazing hospitality and local knowledge. We were seriously impressed and highly recommend Ascot House.

Nothing.

We had a lovely triple room on the top floor, great views of the Minster, comfy beds, lovely bathroom, great shower. We took our dog and there's a small park just across the road which is handy for walks. Only 15-20 walk to the Minster/City Centre which was great. Quiet area so we didn't get disturbed by traffic or noise from other people. Staff were lovely and efficient. Cooked to order English breakfast plus help yourself to cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit salad, pastries and some cold meats etc.

Staircase to 2nd floor is very steep and narrow, anyone with mobility issues or heavy luggage would struggle.

The staff were lovely, couldn’t do enough for us. The whole house is spotlessly clean and it is in easy reach of York. Plenty of information easily accessible. The one thing we were concerned about was the 2nd staircase leading to the second floor (our room) It was extremely steep & not easy to climb or descend, especially as I have a hip problem. I do think it would be helpful to let people know beforehand, as it could be a real issue. We managed but it wasn’t easy. Apart from that I would recommend the b & b thoroughly, everything else was excellent.
