The location is perfect, just outside the city walls, and only a 10 minute walk into York centre. The pub is a grade 2 listed building, and feels like a very traditional pub, but the rooms are to a high standard and spotlessly clean, with everything you could wish for (except usb sockets). The bathroom was very modern and clean. The food that is served is obviously all cooked to order...no microwave meals here (so expect to wait a while for your order). The breakfast was particularly tasty with a great selection of cooked breakfasts along side cereals, yogurts, fruit. All the staff we met over our 3 days were all very pleasant and very professional at their jobs. There is free parking for guests. There is also a separate entrance to the rooms if you come back after hours.

Excellent location. Short walk into the city centre but far enough away from the noise. Lovely old pub that is beautifully clean and has very friendly staff. Very private room despite being in a pub. Lots of space in the room to put clothing etc. Plentiful breakfast. Unlimited juice, tea, coffee, cereal and yoghurt and order off the menu for cooked breakfast. The eggs Benedict was delicious. We didn’t eat in the pub at any other time as we were exploring York, but lots of lovely smells coming from the kitchen.
The bed. Whilst comfortable, it was genuinely the noisiest bed we have ever slept in and my husband is a wriggler which meant no sleep for me on the first night. I bought some ear plugs for the second night which helped but the bed in room 2 needs to go! This was the only negative.

The location of this property was perfect for walking into the city. On a main road so a little noisy at night but not enough that you couldn’t sleep. Free parking for residents at the back made us very happy. Staff were fantastic! Met very warmly when we arrived and everything explained to us. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was spacious with everything we needed. Tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch and took advantage of it coming in from the cold at night. Breakfast in the mornings was hot, tasty and the best we’ve had in a long time. Great service and plenty of choice. The pub had a super cosy atmosphere which was warm and inviting and any questions you had were answered. We had a fabulous experience here for our first time in York and couldn’t find anything to complain about. Well worth a visit.
This is by no means a complaint but more an observation that Drinks prices were higher compared to what we’re used to but we took it as standard for the area and just enjoyed the drinks anyway 🤗 we had nothing to complain about at all.

1) location - less than 50 yards from the City Walls and Walmgate Bar. A direct 5-10 minute walk to the centre of York. 2) car parking - is included. Ample parking at the rear, included in the price. 3) Food - had dinner on a Saturday night, and breakfast Sunday morning. We had fish pie and mac cheese between us. Both excellent. As advertised the pies are indeed 'best in York'. Breakfast we had Eggs Florentine and full veggie breakfast (after yoghurt, juice, with cereals available). Again, both really good. 4) Rooms - comfortable and warm, despite two inches of snow outside. The roaring fire in the dining room was nice. A sign outside indicates this was one of the old Tetleys heritage pubs, with the leaded windows and dado rails from the 1930's. They are limited in what they can do to listed buildings, but the bars were really cosy and the bedrooms comfortable with en suite too. 5) Beers - if this is important to you, you wont be disappointed. A wide range of excellent real ales.
Nothing. Will visit again.

We got such a warm welcome from the staff. A good choice cask ales, well kept. Location is great for the Barbican and a just short walk to the city. The room was clean and good basic facilities. Value for money, it's a pub with rooms and breakfast was amazing, freshly cooked. We had an evening meal before our show 😋 absolutely delicious pies. Yes, we had to wait for our food, oh boy, it's worth the wait. All freshly cooked, including breakfast. We will come back here the next time we are in York. Thank you, Simon and staff, for being so friendly and welcoming. Sandy and Tony.
Needs real Martini extra dry 🙏😊

The Room was huge and apparently the biggest but very comfortable and clean with everything we needed. We always sleep with a window open so a little noise from the main road outside but did not spoil our stay at all. The evening meal we had each night we stayed was excellent and breakfast exceptional and all freshy cooked to order. There was 24 hour free parking which considering our proximity to the city centre was priceless and we were just outside the walled city with a very pleasant walk into town to see all the attractions. When we came back we got off the hop-on-hop-off bus at bus stop 7 which was very convenient. visiting Dick Turpins grave on the way. Staff were all great too.
A little noise but nothing to spoil our stay at all and would certainly stay again - no hesitation

The staff were very welcoming. The whole pub was very clean with well kept beers at a reasonable and very good quality food. Our evening meal was fabulous and very good value for money. The beer garden very a relaxing quiet space. Our room was also very clean with a very comfortable bed. Tea/ coffee milk ect was replenished every day, without us having to ask. Breakfast was delcious and freshly cooked . The staff were very friendly and efficiently thoughout our 3 day stay. This was our 2nd stay here and standards have been constitant on both occasions.
Lack of ventilation in the bathroom. Our room was at the front of the building, with a busy road below. We expected noise from the traffic as this cant be helped. Room would benefit from a cool air quiet rotating tower machine, so the window could be shut at night. The window also needs some tlc, but not a problem to us.

We arrived at the Rose and Crown and the staff were all very friendly and got us checked in as soon as they could. Our room (no.4) was nice and spacious with a king size bed. The weather was really warm when we visited, however a fan is provided in the room. The breakfast was amazing with plenty of options to choose from (ranging from cereals to a Full English). York city centre is within walking distance which takes around 10/15 minutes, perfect for a nice stroll before heading to the bars and shops! The perfect stay for us and would definitely recommend to anyone planning a visit to York. We'll certainly be staying here again!
The building is a grade two listed building so has original sash windows and single glazing which can mean it's noisy in your room at night. This didn't bother us personally, but thought it was important to mention. No complaints about anything else what so ever, we had a perfect stay!

Good location 15 minutes walk to York Minster - breakfast delicious - also had an evening meal which was really tasty - nice beer garden and parking available - nice staff
Quite a dark room but there were quite a few lamps - windows not double glazed so very noisy with or without window open and window needed to be open as the room was very warm - fan was provided to help with this - were told bar closed at 11 but went for a nightcap Saturday night about 10.45 and everything closed - with a few tweaks and added touches the accommodation could be much nicer which is what you would expect for £130 a night

Nice traditional pub very conveniently located for York city centre. Nice large bedroom with modern fitted bathroom. Excellent staff. Very good breakfast. The free parking is an absolute bonus.
Arrived on a very cold evening to find the heating in our room had been turned off so the room, and particularly the bathroom, were very cold. Took a while for the room to warm up after we turned on the radiator but not a big issue for us as we just went down in to the pub for a while. Some traffic noise in the room from the main road outside.
