The room on the fourth floor provided amazing views over the ocean. Our dog could stay leashed on the balcony with the door open while we were inside. The room was clean, large enough for us to navigate, and cutely decorated in the overall theme of the hotel. The location is great, a few blocks walking from the Ocean Ave, the central shopping street of Carmel.

The breakfast was a bit limited: fruit, yogurt and (good) pastries. We did not mind too much, though. Considering that parking and breakfast were included, the hotel is very good value.

Located at the entrance of the town, The front desk was very friendly and recommended restaurants for us, the hotel is very warm, the rooms are quite large, and the bed covers are very beautiful. The room was well ventilated and the change of clothes dried in one night. Breakfast is served with hot coffee and tea, milk and juice, and bread. Simple but enough

The hotel is quant. It is definitely older. It is well maintained and clean. But it was probably built in the 50s, and most of not all of those elements still remain. It's a lot like visiting your grandmother's house. That she's lived in her whole life. It's not run down. But it is not new. The bathroom had pink tiles, and the shower was very small. But the water pressure was excellent. I'm a larger guy. The ceiling is low in the stall. I stayed on the 4th floor. Which is the second floor from the street level. But it's the fourth floor from the parking lot. So if you have any problem with stairs. Ask for a ground level floor. My room came with a small kitchen. With a 2 burner stove and an apartment size refrigerator. And a dining table. The closet was large and separated the room from the bathroom. It was relatively quiet. Even though we were on the main road. The young lady who checked us out was very friendly.

There are a lot of stairs. We arrived right at 4 p.m. which is check-in time. There was almost no parking left. We got 1 of the last 4 spots. The young man who checked us in was friendly and kind of dismissive.

Wow!! I absolutely LOVED my stay! I will DEFINITELY be staying here again if I come back to Carmel! First, the staff was super nice and helpful when I was checking in. They gave me a great map of the town, with icons letting me know which stores/restaurants were dog friendly. (Carmel is extremely dog friendly - which was absolutely amazing). My room was ADORABLE! (It was a pink themed room which was so girly and perfect). It was SO SPACIOUS, exceptionally clean, and so cute. I had an ocean-facing room, and I would spend every morning on the patio drinking coffee while looking at the ocean. It was incredible. The bed was also super comfy, and I slept so well the entire time. The location is amazing. It took me only 5 minutes to walk to the main street downtown, and only 15 minutes to walk to the beach. I truly didn't use my car the entire trip because everything was so walkable from the inn. Even though it was so close to the downtown area, it was still so quiet and peaceful. Also, the pastries that they served every morning were so good. It was my favorite way to start the day. Honestly, this stay felt so homey, relaxing, and incredible. Definitely one of the best inn's I've ever stayed at. HIGHLY recommend.

Wonderful stay. We were in town for the Big Sur Marathon so prices for all hotels were high. We picked this hotel for the location. We were pleasantly surprised to find a charming 2nd story room with a view of the Pacific Ocean. The property is older and alittle dated but was clean and had a comfortable bed. The location was excellent as we were close to restaurants and shopping. Parking on the premises so never had to hunt for a space. The hotel administrator was pleasant and shared excellent recommendations. All in all it was very pleasant and charming. Thanks Hosas house.

A little dates but if they ever decide to renovate it would be amazing.

We enjoyed our staff here. Decent location for a walk into town or down to the beach area. The room was a good size with a nice balcony to watch the sunset. Breakfast is a buffet served in the reception area where there was hot coffee and pastries which we took back to our room. Bed was comfortable and the kitchen area was a nice bonus. We didn't use the pool so can't comment on that facility. Traveller tip - Brunos deli has a stall inside at lunchtimes where you can by reasonably priced and great quality burritos / tacos.

The people in the room next to us had a dog which yapped a fair bit which was not what you associate with a "quiet" room option.

This hotel is in a great location - short walk to the main streets of Carmel, good views out and quiet. When we arrived, it was easy to park on the premises. The check in process was straightforward- the staff are welcoming and professional. We were visiting for a wedding nearby so we didn’t spend a lot of time on site. However, there is a pool and a few outdoor areas that would have been good to use. The breakfast each morning is perfect and simple - coffees to go, muffins/pastries, yoghurt. The bed was comfortable, the room was large and well organised with a good bathroom. It’s a dog friendly hotel - we paid an additional fee (we expected to and it was reasonable). We recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again!

The Hofsas house has been my home away from home in Carmel for 40 years. There have been large gaps between my visits, but the facility is always the same: charming, homey, comfortable, unpretentious. Seriously, they have Dutch doors in the rooms so you can enjoy the sound of the waves and the smell of the forest. For my January trip, I needed a little help from the staff prior to check-in and they were so accommodating and kind. I know there are fancier places in Carmel, but to me, Hofsas House feels like home.

The location near the center of Carmel is a huge draw. 17 mile drive and Monterey are close by. You could walk to restaurants, shops, etc. Breakfast was standard yogurt and sweet roll fare, but a little something, anyway! Real glasses were furnished, along with wine glasses! The pool looked nice but it was too cool outside for us to use it.

The room was clean and neat, but there was a distinct odor of cat urine and Lysol that we asked the front desk to do something about but nothing was done. Not that big a deal, though. Parking was tight but expected.

The staff was great! The room was nice and clean, except there is something I would like to improve. I didn't get a chance to have breakfast. It was nice meeting the grand-daughter of the original owner Ms. Hofsas.

The room smelled like Lysol or some other cleaning product. The smell was too strong. It would be nice if the rooms were cleaning with Glim super alkaline cleaning water, which could be purchased on www.GlimAll.com. This product is organic, kills germs, bacteria, and viruses, and does not leave any odors.
