Carmel-by-the-Sea is riddled with small charming boutique style accommodations. All of them are unique, but the Tradewinds I find is the most modern and updated as far as design aesthetic goes within a reasonable nightly rate. The rooms are updated, the property is minimal with a buddha fountain and outdoor tables if you want to enjoy a glass of wine or your hotel breakfast, but a majority of your stay should be visiting the beaches and walking about the town.
They were short on the amenities and could offer a few more in-room toiletries, but I get that there is a movement towards sustainability and less waste -- which I appreciate. Other than that, I have returned to this hotel 3 times over the many road trips I've taken.

Breakfast was marginal but nice to have. Our ‘partial ocean view’ was a joke but the trees were so pretty we didn’t care.
Don’t advertise ocean view if it isn’t. A hot tub would be great amongst the beautiful gardens

Spacious, welcoming, and beautifully decorated rooms. Gorgeous Zen garden patio areas. Free onsite parking is limited but free street parking surrounds the property. The location was perfect for an easy walk down to Ocean Ave (main strip) and surrounding shops, cafes, etc. The walk uphill was a small struggle, but there were plenty of places to stop along the way and peruse or rest on a bench. Complimentary variety of continental breakfast items delivered by basket to your door (for every full day stay) was a surprise and pleasant touch. Complimentary ice water and flavored ice tea was also available for guests in the lobby. We absolutely enjoyed our quiet and relaxing getaway and look forward to visiting again.

It was a beautiful property, very comfortable. Location was great. Breakfast was a great bonus delivered to your door! Decor, cleanliness, comfortable bed all fantastic! The staff comes to work very early and makes sure the grounds are spotless. I was really impressed.
Of course the price is a bit of a shock, I believe you exceeded the price we paid for a Disney property. The noise between the floors is not great, had someone above us with a heavy foot and had to listen to their nightly panting sessions. Not the fault of the hotel, but wish they would have put some sound deadening between the floors!

The location was within walking distance to so many restaurants, stores and the beach! It was a short drive to the entrance of the scenic 17 mile drive. The delicious breakfast delivery in the morning was such a nice start to our day. Every single person on staff was friendly and welcoming.
Our room was in the older building but it was modernized, spacious and clean. It was great having a little refrigerator in the room but it gave off a lot of heat in its little cupboard.

Comes with a decent continental breakfast. Hotel was quiet, room was clean. I could park on site as this was off season, but I think parking could be a challenge during peak season. Street parking was available.
Personal dislike: Bed way too soft but pillows were comfortable though. Very small boutique hotel, the touted courtyard/space while pretty is very small. No pool/gym on site Room a bit small for 2 queen bed Had to climb into a (relatively high) tub to shower. Accident waiting to happen I supposed it is Carmel pricing, but for over $400 per night without facilities and a small(er) room while being market rate but does not seem like good value.

The location is great. The staff was inviting and kind. The onsite parking was a bonus. The patio and glass sliding door was nice in the evenings when it cooled down. Everything was very clean. 🙏🏽 Breakfast delivery was also a lovely perk.
The rooms were quite dark. Even on sunny days. I felt as if they were filled with a bit too many chairs that seemed slightly outdated. I’ve stayed in 7 different B&B’s in Carmel through the years and I would say this is my least favorite for the amount of $$ I paid.

The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was very nice as well with a bath tub included. There was a small corner to prepare tea coffee with a mini bar and there was space in the closets to put our stuff inside. It was spacious inside the room and the staff was very kind and welcoming.
There weren’t enough parking spots for all the guests and an elevator would have been helpful as well. The breakfast was not enough for two adults. We had to share the jam and butter for example.

The room was excellent, the breakfast options were all delicious and a fun change from the usual hotel fare. Tradewinds is a very short walk from the heart of Carmel-by-the-Sea and even with a stroller we found it very easy to get back and forth. The staff was outstanding, always helpful and attentive. Really incredible place!
There was a requirement to book a room with two queens instead of a single king room because we brought our infant twins with. Felt like a weird rule that meant we had different views of the water and had to split up at night. To be fair, that's nitpicking because everything else was great, but that was the one thing I didn't like.

It's very clean and comfortable. We really love the fireplace.
We've stayed here the last two years. It's expensive but it was previously worth it, but not any longer. There were little things that weren't right. The orange juice was not drinkable. Housekeeping didn't vacuum. The entire experience seemed less than our previous visits. It's a lovely property, but for the money, it's not worth it.
