The staff went above and beyond to help accommodate my not fully mobile parent. They were sold out of the accessible rooms but they did everything to try to make it as easy as possible for us. The breakfast was great! They were also flexible with check out time as my parents took a bit longer than expected to get ready. The beds and rooms were very comfortable, if a bit small. The location is great, especially if you are mobile and can walk.

There was someone without an EV parked in one of the precious charging spots in the lot which was frustrating. Carmel is expensive and this hotel was no different.

Location was great right in the middle of Carmel by the Sea. Easy walk to downtown. Staff was professional and welcoming. The included breakfast on site was fantastic. Way beyond the usual "continental breakfast", with smoothies, coddled eggs, acai bowls and mini charcutier boards. Room was clean and very quiet. Didn't even hear another guest though the hotel appeared fully booked. Comfortable bed. Bathroom was exceptional with a big soaking tub.

Very pricey for the size of room, especially for mid week. Parking was additional charge. Fireplace was not working in our room when we arrived. Outdoor sitting areas are very nicely appointed and cozy with firepits, waterfalls, and streaming music, but were closed up too early each night.

The Stilwell checks all the boxes for me: Beautifully curated rooms with comfortable bedding, complimentary tapa-style breakfast, communal lounge spaces with propane firepits, luscious robes and slippers, charge stations in the parking lot and a big plus-can’t hear a peep from room to room. It also was really nice that my favorite restaurant in town, Casanova, is conveniently located across the street. The amenities, the staff, the cleanliness were above and beyond my expectations. Already planning my next trip.

There is a sensor light below the bed that would come on every time someone got up to use the bathroom at night. I see this as a nice feature but for someone who is a sensitive sleeper, this could be a bit bothersome.

Room was lovely, very comfortable. Bedding felt luxurious. Everything had a great updated vibe. The included breakfast was exceptional and we had no need to go elsewhere for breakfast. Staff very pleasant and helpful. They stored our e-bikes for us too. Loved that we were greeted with a glass of champagne, and there was also an afternoon ice cream bar.

The room was a bit small but not that big of a deal. Didn’t care for the lights under the bed and under the vanity that automatically went on when getting out of bed at night to use bathroom. As cool as the glass door to bathroom is, might have preferred a wood door. But really, these complaints are minor. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again

Location was exceptional right in Carmel-by-the-Sea, parking was free, the daily light breakfast was so good, as was the brick oven pizza.

when presented with a question related to an allergy, the response at first seemed like it would be too difficult to provide an alternative, but they did end up accommodating easily. Also housekeeping may have been rushing, but noticed the rug was not vacuumed and tissues in the bathroom not replaced so ran out. But again, really enjoyed the place, boutique feel and overall helpful staff.

The hotel had an amazing location close to everything in Carmel, shops, restaurants, bars... Would describe as a boutique hotel. The rooms are lovely, the ambience of the hotel, water features, firepits were lovely.. ...we didn't want to leave the hotel in the evening as it was so relaxed and there were some great pizzas on offer. Another great touch was the complimentary breakfast! We travelled through California and stayed at quite a few hotels. This was the only hotel offering this!!

This property has recently been fully renovated (reopened early May 2024). Everything looks very new, clean, and modern. The bed was comfortable, ac/heat worked fine, shower was decent. The rooms had many thoughtful modern touches that I liked a lot. The location is perfect - just on the outskirts of the main downtown area. Everything was easily walkable, but it was easy driving away at the end of our stay, avoiding the constant foot traffic of the main downtown area.

I only have one minor complaint about the room design - the bathroom door has a large glass panel inside the wood frame. It’s ridged “privacy” glass, so not perfectly see through, but you can definitely make out shapes. I’d love to see them either replace those doors with fully wood doors, or add a curtain or pull down blind that could improve the privacy. We opted to use a blanket draped over the door as a makeshift curtain.

We genuinely liked everything about the Stilwell Hotel! From the beautiful design to the cleanliness, every detail exceeded our expectations. We even loved that we could conveniently charge our Tesla on-site. There was truly nothing we didn’t like—it was a flawless stay from start to finish.

Central location in downtown Carmel. Really interesting breakfast included in the stay served in little dishes with a wide variety of unique food selections. Reminded me of kaiseki breakfasts I had in Japan. Also enjoyed a delicious wood fire pizza for dinner. Very pleasant & helpful staff. Nicely furnished & appointed in a contemporary/modern style. EV charger available to guests for free.

I generally enjoy staying at hotels that have a gym and hot tub. This property had neither.

The rooms feel very fresh, clean and pleasant. The beds are big and comfortable. The location is great. We did like the breakfast as well. Overall I would definitely return on our next trip to Carmel.

We initially booked a 2-bedroom suite which was not the right fit because the one bathroom in the suite is located in one of the bedrooms. So you can't access it without disturbing people sleeping there. The staff was very helpful and we changed to 2 separate rooms and this worked out well.
