I've been hopping between different hostels in San Francisco and this is definitely the best one for location and staff support. About the location, it's in one of the safest area in SF, between Financial District and Chinatown. Choose this place and stay away from mission/tenderloin area, trust me it doesn't matter if you find anything cheaper, unless you want to live in first person The Walking Dead. In ITH everything I needed was 10 minutes far or less by walk and the staff very present to suggest nice activities, organise trivia nights and even offer dinners or sweets on very specific days. You won't find in any other hostel staff that at 2 am is up with you to support you dealing with your next destination. Most of the hostels are managed by temporary volunteers or are fully automatic; here you can see that there's a manager caring about your experience. The community dimension that you'll find there must not be given for granted; I met new friends and I'm still in touch with them. I never write reviews, but if you're lost as I was when booking from afar, I hope this one could help.

I'm not a fan of moquette and even if I saw it being cleaned daily, you can tell it's pretty old and should be changed. Maybe also the curtains closing the beds could be renovated. I saw them working on a new design on walls, so probably there is a project ongoing! Last, the maximum you can book in a place in San Francisco - as general rule - is 14 days. Better specify it, Booking is not very clear about it.

My stay at ITH was honestly one of the best hostel experiences that I've had. The space is warm and welcoming, the staff was amazing and helpful and it manages to be fun and create opportunities for connection without being overwhelming. The beds are comfortable, and things are quiet clean and super chill but honestly, those details are less important then the warm reception and amazing expierence you'll find here from the moment i arrived. Im not sure I'll be back in SF any time soon... But if i am I'll for sure stay here again. This place already feels like home! Thanks for everything.

The management and staff went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable, even those who did not clean up after themselves. Eggs were provided in the morning along with fruit and peanut butter and jelly and pancake batter. The kitchen was exceptional and very well equipped. A fresh towel was provided daily for the $2 one time charge. The rooftop view was beautiful and Assad went way out of his way to provide a wonderful barbecue, complete with s'mores and ice cream. Welcome notes on the bed. Being small meant we all became friends easily. I would definitely stay often. Such a better place than green tortoise.

The stairs are much easier than the ones in green tortoise. Not very steep. And there are the same amount depending on which floor you are on. The third floor is more quiet and the lower level. The fourth floor is the registration and kitchen floor so it has more activity in the mornings and evenings unless quiet for sleeping. They are very accommodating with room requests.

I needed a place where it was strategically located between the bridge, park, and bay area, this place offered just that. The manager was extremely helpful and welcoming. He explained everything in order as well as provided me with great advice. Unfortunately as I only had a day, couldn't make it to the included breakfast and BBQ night. Bed was comfortable, the WiFi and shower worked well.

Just a small thing, to maybe upgrade the curtain for the dorm area. And wish there was a light on each bed so I didn't have to disturb other people when checking out early for the flight

The location was very central and you could walk to the pier or China Town. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They did organize each day another event and sometimes provided dinner. It was easy to meet other travelers. You can definitely stay here for a few days when in SF!

Overall the facilities could be improved, it was very basic. Be prepared to walk up many stairs. For me it was no problem but if you have physical issues you should know that!

Amazing, friendly, and professional staff. Very helpful. The hostel was very clean with nice amenities. There was a shared shower/bathroom area but also a private bathroom with a large shower , nice hot water, and massage option showerhead pressure(What?!?! Never seen this at any other hostel) Also, super comfortable beds in a nice airy room with a fan and large windows. Great location between the Financial District, North Beach and China Town. I would rate this hostel higher if I could. Oh they also have group events including a rooftop bbq, karaoke, and others. To say the least, this place is awesome.

Hello everyone. It's very interesting here. On one hand, the place is quite compact, so you don't need to walk far from your room to the shower and kitchen, which is really great. By the way, you can access the kitchen at any time of day to grab a bite. On the other hand, the management organizes friendly events like karaoke and rooftop dinners. This is pleasantly surprising in a lonely and cold San Francisco. Overall, if you want to spend time in a warm and cozy atmosphere, this is the place for you.

The desk staff was very friendly. The desk staff was meticulous and well managed, making it pleasant, and frequently provides guests with a meticulous array of things to enjoy, which makes it natural to socialize with guests. Even if you are an introvert, you are fully considerate. Overall, it was a very satisfying accommodation.

The facilities are not exceptional, but it's good enough when you think about the price for a stay. Don't expect too much from the budget hostel, I think it was good enough.

Staying here was a great choice. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, there were lots of really nice events and things to do while staying here, it was very clean and well maintained, and I loved the downtown location. Would gladly stay here again!

No complaints about my stay here! I think it was exactly what I expected based on the pictures and description and think it met and went above my expectations.

Perfect location, literally everything you need is in walking distance. Rooms are cute and comfortable and they have a more quieter set of rooms if you prefer. They really cater to the guests and provide anything needed, even toiletries! If you’re looking for a weekend getaway, a place to sleep after a night out in town, this is the place. Majority of people here are around my age (20’s) so a great place to meet new people and feel comfortable.
