This is a well-renovated vintage motel. We loved the art-deco motif, special shout-out to the Dane Shue/Vogue-Astronaut art in the lobby. The sister hotel next door (The Hollander) had great bar specials and a full menu. They had activities for guests, the turn-out for the Sunday afternoon pool party was amazing. Free Champagne at the Avalon Sunday evening. Free bottled water for guests was a nice plus. Very close to downtown St. Petersburg, the waterfront, the pier, the art museum, the restaurants and pubs, all within walking distance. But, the hotel is tucked away on 4th Ave, so it is not in the middle of the late night festivities. The bed was comfortable, the staff friendly, and the entire place was very clean. Monday was Martini night!

This is a minor note, that should already be anticipated because it is a vintage motel. The room was small in size. Cozy, but not as large as most modern motels.

Its perfectly situated downtown and with free parking and only a couple minutes from access to 275, only a block away from the Coliseum, yet the street feels pretty quiet, especially at night, which was surprising. The price for the location and amenities was hard to beat. We stayed in the “suites” building next to the main building so I can’t say much about the rooms and the lobby of the main building as we didn’t spend much time there. Where we did spend more time was their sister property next door, which has a fantastic menu, great outdoor dining seating (there’s plenty of indoor seating as well) and has a fun eclectic vibe and great bar. The sister property has a gorgeous outdoor pool but we didn’t discover it until the day we were checking out—not sure if Avalon guests have free access or not, but its worth inquiring. I’d recommend this hotel. We stayed here for the weekend while moving our kid into college and considering the spaciousness of the rooms (suites), convenience, the secure parking, etc. it is perfect for families needing a place to stay for visiting college kids or moving college kids in/out of dorms.

Walking up was awesome! Such a fun retro atmosphere. Check in was fast , easy , and friendly. Our suite was awesome , with the best terrace, as it looked over 4th ave. Room was clean , comfy , and spacious. All the amenities you could need to stay for a week or a month. We came for a show at Janus Live ( 4 blocks away) , Uber was easy and so was walking. The sister hotel nextdoor has great food and drinks and a pool!! Super great experience and look forward to staying again. Plus there is a grounds cat ( whether grounds knows or not) that is super friendly and awaiting pets!!

Breakfast was not provided. But we purchased banana nut muffin and a slice of cinnamon coffee cake at the sister hotel, the Hollander both were very good. The location was convenient. The Hollander provided transportation to the ballpark. The driver, Gregg, was great. The St. Pete Golf Cart Tour picked up at the Hollander hotel. Max provided an excellent your of the city. The room, bathroom, and bedding were clean. The towels were a good size not small as another post stated. There’s free bottled water at check-in. The hotel staff provided a quick and friendly check in.

Most of what we liked least has to do with the fact that it’s a historical building and not due to the fault of the owners. -The parking is a little tight. The Avalon and the Hollander share a parking lot. -The bathroom is really small. -Wall unit air conditioning (newer unit but no humidity control). -Bed was not uncomfortable, but not plush and luxurious. -Lighting throughout the facility not as bright as we would have liked. But, windows offer good light.

The location was amazing. The staff was so nice. At first they put us in a room right off, lo which was pretty much a closet. It was so small in the bathroom you had to close the door to go to the bathroom. They did upgrade us to a suite which was more room, but the bathroom was just so incredibly small, but not as small as the first room. The restaurant and pool were very nice as well

The hotel is in a great location within walking distance of shops, restaurants, museums, entertainment. The restaurant at the Hollander (next door) is great. Loved the outdoor bar, cabanas and pool area. The bartenders were excellent. Our hotel room was very comfortable. All in all, a great boutique hotel.

Bathroom was a bit cramped. Parking on the weekend was hard to find.

I liked the vintage, artistic coziness when walking into the lobby area. The staff is amazing and informative. The restaurant was located at the adjoining Hollander hotel next door and the food was great with lots of delicious options. Pool and bar area was amazing during happy hour. The images of the Avalon hotel that I saw online prior to our stay were exactly as the pictures showed. Beautiful hotel and I will be back.

The parking was the only inconvenience because of limited space.

Second time staying at The Avalon. Enjoyed the modest, but comfortable King room(s) each time. Bedding is excellent, The location and staff are always pleasing and the affiliated Hollander Hotel next store offers great meals and drinks along with a corner coffee shop. Property is Boho-cute. Free water and the complimentary early evening wine and champagne toasts added to the value stay.

Bathroom is very small. Room did not include refrigerator.

The location was truly excellent — close to everything and could easily walk to restaurants and cafes. Despite the hotel being fully booked, it was very quiet. Having a parking space was a huge convenience. The service was friendly, and our room was clean and spacious. We were three women on vacation and felt safe staying on the ground floor. If I come back, I will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

although there was a shuttle from the hotel to the Mahaffey theatre, pick up at the theatre ends at 10:45 PM. the desk staff made it clear that this is the last pick-up time. I did not think it would be a problem as the concert was to begin at 8:00; however, they did not play the symphony until 1 hour later. realizing that we would not make it in time to be picked up, we missed most of the symphony. The hotel having staff on duty past 11 PM, and pick up until at least midnight would be welcome.
