Location is right in town, a few blocks from the courthouse square. Busy with both vehicle & pedestrian traffic during the day, as it's close to the IU campus. Not bad at night, though, at least on weekdays.. Charming Victorian rooms in several older homes moved to the same location & attached - unique, but fits Bloomington style. Some ground-level rooms are streetside, but open directly to a covered porch with rocking chairs, which is delightful. All are accessed by a ramp from the sidewalk. Our room was smallish, but didn't feel that way with a 12-foot ceiling! (And a chandelier.) Comfortable beds! Bathrooms can be small too, but function well - plenty of hot water, and the showerheads are newer and have good water pressure. Breakfast was outstanding, and the hot dishes were different each day. Lots of choices! I even got really black, crispy bacon (the only way I like it) on request! In addition to breakfast, Grant St Inn offers an "afternoon treat," which is left out throughout the rest of that day, until it is used up. Sample treats included strawberry meringue, peanut butter-chocolate candy, and chocolate chip cookies, all homemade.
Plumbing, especially the toilet tank refilling, can be a bit slow in the main buildings. Seems to be an ongoing issue, due to the age of the building. A very small annoyance, actually. Really, there is little to dislike here!

Breakfast was really delicious. There were many choices. Everything was freshly made. The place was really nice with a lovely porch to sit on and the staff were very friendly and helpful. he location was perfect because we could easily walk to town and walk to campus but it was also quiet. Te bed was very comfortable and clean. And the mid-day snacks were very delicious! This is also a very queer-friendly place. We felt comfortable and welcome.
There weren't many options for dairy-free people at breakfast but they did have dairy-free creamer for coffee.

Short review: We'd be happy to return to the Grant Street Inn for our next event on the IU campus. Our room was clean. The furniture and linens were in excellent condition. No unpleasant surprises were encountered. The staff at the desk and at breakfast are very helpful and personable. The eggs and pastry at breakfast were fresh made, not packaged...yum. Very convenient to the IU Auditorium and many other campus areas. I don't know when we're returning to the IU campus, but Grant Street Inn will be on our accommodations short list.
Nothing really. If it were winter, we might prefer to stay in the main building.

The location was great! Walking distance to IU as well as with restaurants and shops. The staff were all so nice, helpful and friendly. We felt very welcomed. Emma and Bailey were great in greeting us and so sweet! Ruthie, who managed the restaurant was also so kind and helpful. The staff all seemed to love working at Grant Street Inn. It made our stay so very enjoyable. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would definitely return! Thank you to your wonderful staff! Oh, and your home cooked breakfasts and afternoon snacks were all quite delicious!

I loved the proximity to downtown Bloomington; it was only 2 blocks to Kirkwood, but it was quiet enough that I wasn't disrupted by the nightlife when I wanted to sleep. I was able to easily walk to so many restaurants, bars, coffee shops and shopping! My room was massive; I definitely wasn't expecting it to be as big as it was so that was a welcome surprise. I didn't have the breakfasts that are included in the room cost, but they smelled delicious (I went to some of my favorite local spots instead, which were an easy walk away).

Location, friendliness, comfort
There were a few things in our room that were of minor concern: a handle dangling because a screw was missing, the spare blanket apparently thrown crumpled into the closet (clean?), the bathroom sink drained very slow and it looked like the shaving stubble from previous guest were still stuck around the inside of the sink. Poor first impressions (which I cleaned up before my partner arrived).

The room was spacious and homelike, very cozy. It felt more like a master suite than a hotel room. We were in town for an event at the IU Union. It was a short walk to the school. We walked downtown for a nightcap. It was nice to be so close to everything. Breakfast was good too. We sat in the rocking chairs on the porch for coffee to relax after breakfast.
We were on the first floor in a building across the street. The view out the window was an alley, so not much to look at from there.

The location is perfect to walk to Kirkwood, downtown and the campus. It is a little farther of a walk but the football stadium is also within walking distance. The front desk staff were wonderful. One of the front desk staff, I believe her name was Cindy, was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was amazingly, delicious and the wonderful woman serving was very pleasant and constantly replenished the items during breakfast . Cookies, tea and fruit were also available in the evenings. Cold bottled water was available from the front desk.
We could have used a refrigerator in our room for leftovers from our lunches and dinners. Also to keep cold drinks in our room.

This was our second time staying here. Ruthie and Neshia serve up one of the best breakfasts possible! The food is so good and the service is warm and friendly. Coffee/tea are available 24 hours and there is usually something sweet on the counter in the lobby to go with. Everyone we've met there are amazing. Rooms are clean and well stocked, but if you need anything the front desk is a call away.
Nothing has been bad. We are always pleased to stay here.

I have consistently enjoyed my stay at the Grant Street Inn. David is always warm and welcoming, as are the folks at the reception desk. Everyone was eager to help.
One thing that would have made our stay nicer would be a quiet room-heater. The heater seems old and makes a lot of noise when kicking on and off throughout the night. A little more light in our particular room would also have been nice, but these are details. We both enjoyed our stay!
