Breakfast? A few pastries was not really my idea of breakfast. They were sweet treats, not a meal, and I am not a sweet eater in the morning. It would have been nice to have some savory options.

Staff was wonderful (until our last day). It was a bit noisy, but provided ear plugs helped a lot. I did not receive an itemized check out bill, and assumed I would get one by email. I have not received one a week later.

Rustic hotel that has been well maintained and updated. Wood floors throughout with rugs/runners. Easy to find and ample street parking (don't pay -- 1+ block away is free overnight street parking). Super friendly and helpful staff,

I guess this applies to all of Portland, but the homeless problem was very sad. At first we thought we had picked a bad neighborhood, but after walking around Portland (esp over the bridges to downtown), we realized it was pervasive. It seemed like the two biggest populations in that area and downtown were tourists like us and the homeless. It never felt unsafe, but it was super sad to see such suffering all around. Portland is by far the biggest city in Oregon, but downtown was just dead.

Raleigh at the front desk went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible. She did a fantastic job accommodating my room preferences, helping with my key cards, and offering genuinely helpful suggestions. I felt truly welcomed and safe throughout my stay. I stayed in three different rooms during my visit, and each one was beautiful - designed in the same elegant and contemporary style. The entire team was warm and friendly, and my room was wonderfully quiet. The hotel itself has a unique charm, and the lobby, in particular, is stunning. I also appreciated how safe the space felt. The location is ideal for travellers without a car. Highly recommend!

The check in was smooth, room was comfortable and big. Loved the interior and charm of the old building. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

A hotel guest had a mental health episode and was behaving aggressively in the morning. She followed me. I informed the front desk while she was doing it. He instructed me to move away. I left the building , she followed me and tried to throw a hot coffee at me. The staff got a handle of the situation, but I wished staff would have come stand next to me to support me. They were apologetic after whiles and it was an extraordinary situation , but like I said. Some one being physically present would have been helpful to feel safer.

Great update to a historic hotel, so expect a creative use of space and layout. Staff were great, the morning coffee setup was a very nice surprise, and I believe they have lobby happy hour though we weren't able to attend. Italian restaurant adjacent looks good. Very convenient to the restaurant, arts neighbourhoods and cocktail bars we wanted to explore on this visit, and the area has some traditional charm but more on the urban/industrial side. Lucked out with the exceptional outfitters across the road. Portland's best cocktail bars are within walking distance, as are some great restaurants, bakeries. Oh and the toilettries are fabulous, I'd love to buy that scented soap.

Nothing much to do with the hotel. Room wasn't huge, but space was well used and appointed. Be aware it's not downtown, but still plenty to enjoy in the neighbourhood and convenient for both sides of river.

The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating. We had a nice, large room, with lots of thoughtful touches. We enjoyed coffee and a pastry in the lobby for breakfast, and had a great walk around the neighborhood in the morning.

I'm really glad to have good hotels on the east side, but the location is tricky if you're not expecting it. No good views to speak of and parts of the surrounding area aren't great for walking. These aren't really criticisms of the hotel. It's just something to understand when you're staying in this part of town, which we love.

Hotel was very clean and upscale. Looked like it had been remodeled and was done well. The staff were very nice and helpful.

I was very wary of the neighborhood. We did not feel safe. The main reason for choosing the Stark was that it was 1 block away from the venue where the wedding we were attending was held. Felt anxious walking there, and very concerned walking back in the evening. Again, this is no reflection on the hotel, just circumstances.

The inside was beautiful. They kept the historic feel with high end upgrades. The front staff, Rally, was phenomenal! The night staff didn’t show and so she stayed all night. She says she knew I was out at a show with friends and wanted to make sure I could get back in at the end of my night (in case my key card didn’t work) Unexpected and a pretty amazing human. Would definitely stay again with that kind of friendly service.

What a great remodel. Super nice but casual. Close to things to do both east side and west

We were very surprised to arrive at our pet friendly hotel and be asked if we were aware of their $100 pet fee. No we were not. Booking does a terrible job of adding a pet to a booking. As in you can’t. Just people and children. And we told the hotel that we were bringing a dog. We received a fairly generic reply. Nothing about the $100 fee.

The employees were very welcoming and lovely. My room was quiet. I also really like the style of the hotel! Contemporary design, built in 1907. Especially the lobby is beautiful. It also felt very safe. The location is perfect for travellers without a car. You can easily walk (30mins) to the city centre, downtown, take public transport to other areas or explore Hawthorne.
