Best hotel I've stayed in yet! I come to Newport often as my daughter goes to college here and I've been looking for a hotel to keep coming back to. I'm so glad I found it after several other tries at other hotels. The location is great, close to everything. The room was exceptional, I loved the extra sink outside the bathroom, the built in closet system, the mini fridge with freezer, the balcony. The maid did a wonderful job, everything was clean everywhere we went. The included breakfast was good too. The rooms look like they do online. There were families with small children staying in the rooms around us but I never heard noise, it was a quiet stay. I loved everything about this Howard Johnson and I will be staying here on my future visits.

I have zero complaints!

The room appeared to be recently remodeled--VERY nice! I love that there is a little patio outside our room with chairs, a little table, and a grassy area with a picnic table. It was extremely pleasant to sit outside in the evening after a long day at the beach, returning from dinner, etc. rather than just being inside the room. And our favorite feature of this Howard Johnson's has always been the breakfast buffet--once again, it was fabulous! We look forward to that buffet every year; the atmosphere is family friendly and classy; the food is absolutely delicious and such a great variety. Can't be beat!

The only minor drawback was that although we had a handicap accessible room, the shower stall still contained a tub rather than a walk-in shower which would have been much easier for my husband to use. Also, regarding the handicap accessibility, the walk to the lobby from our room required going up 7 steps, or we could have walked on the sidewalk outside which would have been a longer walk than comfortable for someone with arthritic knees and a cane. I think there was an elevator somewhere but we didn't see it.

The rooms are very clean and newly renovated. Love the new toilets and the beds are super comfortable. The staff are exceptional and go out of their way to help you and accommodate you. We found the breakfast staff very friendly and the breakfast had a nice variety and was available 6 to 10 a.m. There is a vast park which has trails to walk your dogs directly down from the hotel. Poop bags are provided at the hotel if you run out. The pool is extremely clean, lots of towels provided and a small exercise room next to the pool. Free wi-fi is available. An Applebees is conveniently attached for a late night snack or drink. The location itself is just minutes from downtown Newport. There are some nice thrift stores and antique stores located in Middletown near the hotel. Our stay was lovely.

The new sinks in the bathroom and outside of the bathroom both have faucets that are too close to the back of the sink. When you put your hands under the faucet the water goes up onto the counter and the back of the sink. We just found that water would continuously get on the floor and sit on the surrounding counter. This made it difficult to have anything near the sink while washing your hands (glasses, creams, powder, make up products, a dry towel, etc.) A better designed faucet would do wonders.

The room was larger than expected. The entire facility was very clean. The staff was very polite and friendly. The employees who worked in the breakfast area always made sure that everything was full and warm. I wish I had gotten the name of the employee who worked on Monday (9/16/24) and Friday (9/20/24) in the breakfast area. She was fantastic! The outside of the hotel wasn't doing the inside any justice. The outside was a little plain/mute. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

If I had to say there was something I didn't like, it was the toasters in the breakfast area. They took forever to toast anything. However, it's understandable when you have so many people coming and going each morning and using them incorrectly and correctly.

This was a very nice hotel, with a big room and comfortable beds. The room had a fridge freezer and a microwave. In the hotel lobby there was a coffee/tea maker machine which you could use any time of the day. The breakfast was excellent (usually something warm things: e.g. scrambled eggs/sausage or bacon) and yoghurts and toast and waffles and fruit). Staff was very friendly. There was a nice restaurant just around the entrance (less than 1 min walk). It is an excellent place to visit Newport. Easiest is to take the bus (no 60) that stops at the petrol station across the road and costs 2 dollars per trip (cash needed, staff at the hotel changed some fivers for us into 1 dollars) . I can certainly recommend this place as it is also excellent value for money.

The was a small private patio off of our room. They had a pool, hot tub and fitness center. The room, bathroom and bedding were clean. It would have been perfect if the carpet which smelled a little musty was removed and replaced with lament it would be perfect.

The musty smell of the carpet was the only problem. There was a dehumidifier in the room that the housekeeper said would decrease the smell (that comes from their humid summers) but it didn’t help much. If the carpet was removed and replaced with laminate flooring, it would fix this problem.

The staff were very professional, friendly, and attentive to your needs! Rooms were clean and quiet. Pool, Jacuzzi and Sauna were well enjoyed by our family and my kids loved the duck machine! Will definitely be back 😃

Sweeping around pool and jacuzzi is needed there was a bandaid, fake jewelry, and debri from clothing and plastic pieces from tags of stuff people bought to use pool. That is honestly the only problem that I found here very clean facility.

From the moment we walked in to check in the staff were all so friendly and kind. The lobby was clean and check in was a breeze! The rooms are spacious and were very clean. I loved that there was a small patio with chairs just off the room. I would 100% highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a place to stay. We were there for our sons graduation from OCS and it was located only 12 minutes away!

Breakfast was great and had the usual - eggs, meat of some kind, breads, cereal, juices, etc... Nice that breakfast went later than usual to 10am. Our double queen room was very spacious with lots of storage space (dresser, open closet, and shelves) including a sizeable mini fridge with a decent size freezer. The indoor pool area was actually one of the biggest and nicest I've seen. Big windows looking out onto a lawn, lots of tables surrounding, and a hot tub. I've noticed many hotels have closed their hot tubs during Covid and never opened them again, but this HoJo had it bubbling away-and it was bigger than normal. Very nice.

The gym area was very small, although it contained two elipticals and two bikes.

It appeared that the hotel had been completely updated recently. Very clean and functional room with plenty of convenient outlets and charging ports! Breakfast room was clean and did offer a very of breakfast options. And the coffee was a pleasant surprise…much better than average hotel coffee. Plenty of wide parking available.

I would prefer a quieter heat pump type cooling and heating system. But the AC worked well with the remote wall thermostat.
