The location is good and the staff were wonderful.

I didn't like the stairs up to the 2nd floor where the elevator started, but thankfully, the staff were there to carry down my suitcases.

Golden Sun Hotel is perfect for exploring Hanoi, situated right in the heart of the Old Quarter and only a few minutes walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. The hotel room was big and comfortable for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids). What made our stay really exceptional was the staff, Tom and his team. Nothing was too much bother and they helped us with everything. Tom arranged our airport pick up to the hotel, showed us where to go to get best rates for changing currency and organised a local SIM card. We also booked our Ha Long Bay/Lan Ha Bay tour through the hotel, including transport from the hotel and onward travel to Ninh Binh. If you are heading to Hanoi then the Golden Sun Hotel is a great place to stay. Thoroughly recommended. Thanks Tom and the Golden Sun Team!

The location was excellent - walking distance to everything. Bedding was comfortable. Not many choices for breakfast but was reasonable. The family room with terrace is at the rear of the hotel so is reasonably quiet. Tom and staff do their best in difficult circumstances.

We had a family room with terrace - please be aware that this room is not suitable for those with mobility problems - after the little lift there are two flights of stairs. The bathroom is a very small, inadequate, out dated wet room. The terrace does not add value - it comprises a couch outside the room facing a blank wall with no aircon so literally of no use. The TV never worked during our stay of 5 nights. Cleaning staff did their utmost best to make the room presentable but this room desperately needs a makeover - photos on booking.com site do not accurately represent. On our third night we were offered another much smaller room at the front of the hotel which would not have been suitable but did have a proper shower.

We stayed for 3 nights, and the experience was fantastic—thanks to the amazing staff, especially Tom. He was incredibly helpful in planning our days, booking our tickets for the Ha Long Bay cruise, Ninh Binh trip, and bus to Sapa. All of them included hotel pick-up and drop-off, which made things super convenient. What really stood out was their generosity—giving us a room to freshen up in the morning before our flight to Da Nang, even after we had checked out. Extremely nice and helpful staff. The hotelmanager helped and guided us with information as there was a very big typhoon on its way towards Ha Long Bay/Vietnam beach area, our next planned location. So he strongly advised us to cancel the booking, and then rebook after everything has settled down. We then canceled our Ha Long Bay booking, and held off until we could rebook. We then booked another night at the hotel and the next morning we came to learn that the whole of Ha Long Bay was shut down and around 750.000 people were evacuated. Great breakfast buffet, even with a la carte options. Location was perfect as it wasn’t exactly in the centre of parties, but was just quiet enough for a good nights sleep. Only 2 minute walk away from the Hoan Kiem lake, night markets, food markets, very big weekend night markets and shopping streets all around you. For the vegetarians/vegans, plenty of food choice for breakfast.

There was a bit of mold in the corner of the shower cabin.

Breakfast was a pleasant surprise, especially since I don’t usually eat much in the morning. The spread had just enough variety to keep me satisfied such as fresh bread, hot coffee, fruits, rice, and the usual favorites like bacon, sausage, and eggs. Simple, but it hit the spot. What really stood out though was the staff. I’ve been to many places, and I’ve learned that staff can be the ultimate dealbreaker and here, they were wonderful! Friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm. The front desk in particular went above and beyond. He suggested we move our trip to Ninh Binh a day earlier because a typhoon was on the way, and even gave us the tickets at a discounted price. That kind of thoughtfulness makes all the difference. The location was another win. You’re right in the middle of everything like the street markets, restaurants, and plenty of spots you can easily explore on foot. Even though it's across by an elementary school, our room was actually quiet. Convenience and hospitality all in one place that’s hard to beat.

Not exactly a dealbreaker, but my friend pointed out that the bathroom didn’t have proper ventilation. The only option was to open the window, which wasn’t ideal especially since doing so meant you could easily be seen from the adjacent room.

Excellent stayed with my family in the top floor family room. Staff were friendly. Cleanliness was good. The location was perfect. Nearby Met Vietnamese restaurant was good. Buffet breakfast was limited in items but tasty. Advice to property management to improve breakfast items. Because tourist want many things but among them foods, safety stay, and cleanliness are the first priority. So, please improve your breakfast items, which will help you further in the future. Manager Tom was very kind. He made our stay easy and wonderful. Thanks, I hope we will again stay in your hotel.

The location was perfect, and the staff were wonderful — very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, and the room was large, comfortable, and very clean. The bed was also super comfortable, so I slept really well. Overall, it’s a nice place with great service and convenience.

The bathroom was the weakest part of the stay. It’s quite old and had a slight smell. Even though it seemed cleaned, it still looked a bit dirty because of how worn out everything is — the toilet, tub, and sink all need renovation. Everything else in the hotel was good, but the bathroom definitely needs improvement.

We absolutely loved staying here. The manager is so awesome and helped us so much. He helped us book an overnight cruise to ha long bay and a 3 day trip to ha Giang. We had so many questions for him about the rest of our travels and he helped us figure out the rest of it. The hotel room was very nice and cozy. The breakfast in the morning was super yummy as well. I cannot recommend this place enough and recommend how amazing the manager is. I recommend booking everything with him, he is the best. I will definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends and family. All of the staff are super nice, it’s super clean, and a perfect location close to so many things. I am so thankful we stayed here. If it wasn’t for the manager our trip to Vietnam would have not been as great. So thankful for his hospitality, kindness, and service.

Nothing everything was perfect.

The hotel was in a great location easy walking distance to everything. The rooms were nice and clean and the staff were fantastic. The breakfast was exceptional. The real stand out was Tom the manager. He was fantastic. He really set the hotel apart as would do anything to assist and cannot speak highly enough if him.

There was one negative, and we do not know who to blame here. We booked a 5 Star cruise on Halong Bay and were shown a hard cover book with beautiful photos of a modern boat. It was gorgeous so we decided we would spend the extra money and book this cruise. The next morning, we were picked up at the hotel by the bus and taken to Halong Bay. But TY o our shock and massive disappointment we were taken to an older wooden boat which was clearly NOT 5 Star and was definitely nothing like the boat we were shown when booking. We rang Tom to ask but he said that the boat we were takenbto was the right one. So do not know what happened here but this really left us very disappointed.
