Great location: the lodges are in the grounds of the Safari Lodge hotel, which has an open-sided dining room with views over a private water hole/game reserve. Every day at lunch time in the main hotel, there's a free "vulture culture" event where a guide feeds c. 100 local vultures and explains related conservation efforts. The hotel restaurant is excellent, especially since the pricing is more like mid-range in the UK or US. Regarding the lodge itself: ours was a spacious 3-bedroomed cottage on two levels with two bathrooms and a fully-equipped kitchen. Everything was spotlessly clean. The "walls" of the sitting room are large unzippable canvas panels with a lockable security grille behind, so that you can unzip everything and open up the whole side of the lodge to the patio and lawn beyond. In the garden, you'll see lots of bushbuck (antelope), warthogs, vervet monkeys and banded mongoose! A short walk away, at the Boma restaurant, there's a nice little pool area with attached restaurant/bar for the lodge residents, plus a small kids' play area (including sunken trampoline) and a beach volley-ball court. I think Lokuthula Lodge would be pretty much perfect for a family on a self-drive, self-catering holiday. It's very well equipped, including a braai (BBQ) set-up next to the patio, and our lodge had two covered parking spaces. Plus you can go for breakfast (copious, $25 a head) at the main hotel, and choose from two places on-site for lunch and dinner. If you're staying in Vic Falls without a vehicle, as we were, it's more like a great budget option. You get a lot of space and freedom for your money, but you don't get the full hotel service. As one of the further-out lodges, we were still only a 5-min walk from the Safari Lodge hotel, where the staff will arrange taxis to/from Vic Falls town. The hotel also provides a free shuttle bus roughly at hourly intervals to run guests in/out of town.

I hadn't realised that the lodges were in the grounds of the Safari Lodge hotel (which seems to offer four classes of accommodation: the main hotel, two other types of (higher-end?) lodges, and finally the Lokathula lodges. So you end up perhaps feeling a bit of a second-class (or fourth-class?!) citizen. But that's a very minor quibble, and you're still paying a huge amount less per night for a really good standard of accommodation in a wonderful setting. Another minor point: the pool at the Boma is outdoor and unheated. So it's pretty bracing in the winter! I don't know if the main hotel pool is heated, but I do know that you're not allowed to use it if you're staying at Lokuthula. Then again, I'm not sure how heavily they police it; you could probably sneak in!

The free-roaming animals such as the buck, guinea fowls and warthog, were a joy to watch daily. I also appreciate that the lodge fulfilled my request to combine the upstairs' single beds into one large one. The Boma dinner was an excellent experience. The lodge gladly arranged the sunset cruise booking as well.

The mosquitoes inside the lodge, especially the upstairs loft. Also, there is no indoor dining space, as the only table is outside and thus not suitable for use in the evenings due to the chilly weather and mosquitoes.

Very good location, the overall resort is really great. Nice restaurant with a incredible view on the waterhole where the animals come drink at night. The cottage is big enough for a family of four. Very clean. Animals come very near to the terrace (baboons, warthogs, impalas… ) The beds are good. There is a free shuttle that goes to the center. At fixed hours. Useful !!

Nothing Keep in mind that no breakfast included so if you don’t want to eat at the restaurant, don’t forget to buy food at the supermarket in the center.

Charming lodges in beautiful surroundings visited by a variety of wildlife everyday. Food at the hotel was excellent and reasonably priced.

It is not mentioned that the lodges are placed around the Boma restaurant so everynight between 6.30 and 10 you had the noise and drumming. Little point in using the kitchen as getting to a supermarket was tricky and very expensive with little to offer. Fine for coffee and toast.

Design and layout of lodge, surroundings, wildlife on doorstep, access to VFSL viewing terrace and bar, spectacular sunset, helpful staff when booking extra night and excursion.

Unfortunately mosquitoes were getting into the mezzanine bedroom easily and inside the net and in numbers making it unpleasant for our teenage daughter to sleep up there which was a shame as she was so excited about it at first. There were big gaps around the windows upstairs which could be sealed properly.

Lokuthula lodge is a beautiful place to stay, being surrounded by nature, wildlife made it all a full experience. Lodges were spacious, staff very friendly and professional

Lodges are now outdated. Nothing a lick of paint and retiling in the bathrooms will not fix

Wi-Fi didn’t reach the lodge Would of been great if we’d have been provided with sponges/washing up equipment for the kitchen
